ABOUT US AND ABOUT YOU
We are a well travelled couple who have stayed at Air BnB accommodation in Spain, Hungary, USA, and Australia. We have more info on our profile.
PLEASE NOTE - You'll be sharing with us, so when you contact us, it is very helpful if you include some detailed information about yourselves and your trip. It's also good if your profile has as much information as possible, too. As this is our home, we would like to know more about you. Thanks for understanding.
CITY CENTRE ACCESS AND TRANSPORT LINKS
Although we can't claim to be in an inner city location, we do have good transport links to get you where you need to go. We're also well placed for destinations to the north east of Melbourne.
Heidelberg train station is 1.3km/0.75mi away; a 15 minute walk or a short bus ride from the stop that is 30 seconds from our front door. Heidelberg Station is on the Zone 1/2 boundary on the Hurstbridge line, about 20-25 mins to the city centre (CBD) and 15-20 minutes to the MCG/Tennis Centre area.
In a straight line, it is about 10km to the city centre, a bit further by road.
Please refer to the listing's map to get an idea of where we are in Melbourne. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/98303#maps
Access from Melbourne Airport is straightforward and is quickest and easiest by taxi (approx. $53) or in a private vehicle.
Airport Bus Eastside, operate a bus service from the airport that drops off in Burgundy St, approximately 1.5km away.
SkyBus is very frequent from the Melbourne airport to Southern Cross Station (about $28 return per adult), where you can change to a suburban train (about $3.50 per adult for a 2-hour fare).
SITA coaches operate buses from Avalon Airport to Southern Cross Station.
We are situated within walking distance of the Heidelberg hospitals area (Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, Mercy Women's Hospital, Warringal Private).
Also convenient is La Trobe University (bus stop is 100m away), NMIT Heidelberg, Heide Museum of Modern Art, and The Centre Ivanhoe.
Guests will have the top floor to themselves. The 2 guest bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with 2 single beds) share a bathroom (with shower and spa bath) and separate toilet. Linen, towels and soap are provided but not other toiletries.
The top floor has a spacious lounge area with a CRT TV that has an SD Freeview set top box. A multi region DVD player is available, if you need it. As we are music lovers, there is also a selection of CDs and Vinyl that you can play on the stereo.
You also will have use of our small backyard (and BBQ), the kitchen (and dishwasher) and the washing machine; all of which are downstairs.
Feel free to connect to our wireless network for internet access.
Please note, if you are a very light sleeper, you might want to take into account that we do get some outside noise. The double room is at the back of the house and is more sheltered.
FOOD AND DINING
Although we do provide tea and coffee, we don't generally provide meals. However, should you arrive late in the evening and don't get a chance to buy any food, we'll try and make sure that you don't starve to death! There are a few dining options nearby that are open late and a café around the corner that serves breakfast. McDonalds is also very convenient, if that's your thing. The closest supermarket is Aldi, 1km from us, with other options in Burgundy St, about 1.5km away, near Heidelberg train station.
Of course, you are welcome to use the kitchen. We have the usual pots, pans, plates and utensils. We've got cooking oil, salt and pepper that you can use, too.
The Guidebook for our listing shows you the local amenities on a map, so you can get a sense of where they are.
Please ask us for detailed directions about how to get here, if you need it.
We also regularly pay a visit to Melbourne's visitor information centre, so we have a selection of maps and brochures on hand to help you out, as well.
A free parking space in the driveway is available.

Ed and Kate are fine host and easy to talk to. The spacious top floor, clean bathroom with a great shower and an extra toilet i had to myself. WLAN has been working perfectly. Everything has been well prepared, and they take great care that you have everything you need. They give you complete privacy as well as you can talk to them whenever you like. I strongly recommend the place to anybody and would stay there at all times again.
Ed and Kate made the whole booking experience so easy and were very welcoming to their home. I had the whole top floor to myself. The rooms were spotless and they provided everything I needed for my stay. Very obliging in arranging arrival and leaving times - keeping in touch with me. Thank you Ed and Kate for making me so welcome. Would highly recommend.
Kate is lovely and very welcoming. The rooms were great for the four of us - we had the top floor of the house to ourselves, and we felt we had plenty of room and privacy. The bathroom was practically new with a great shower! Very good heating too, which was important in the Melbourne winter. The kitchen was well equipped, and we loved listening to the vinyl records.
We were really happy with the experience, and will definitely consider staying there again on our next trip to Melbourne.
Staying at Ed & Kate's was very comfortable for us as a family. Their home was very clean and tidy. We had the whole top floor with two bedrooms, large bathroom, separate toilet and a large lounge area. Location wise it was very convenient for us as we had functions on in Bulleen, Templestowe and Panton Hill. We highly recommend Ed & Kate as fine hosts with good accommodation.
We had a lovely 2 night stay with Ed and Kate, as a family of 4. Ed and Kate were very friendly hosts, and very accommodating. Their upstairs area is perfect and private. 2 large bedrooms, and huge modern bathroom, with shower, spa bath and sink. There is also a large living area, which we didn't have time to utilise on our stay. We were attending a wedding, and appreciated having a large area to hang our clothes, get ready, and the use of an iron and hairdryer. Ed & Kate were flexible with our arrival and departure times. I would highly recommend this house and hosts to anyone, especially if you have your own transport, as it is out of the city.
Enjoyed staying at Ed & Kate's place. It was great to have the entire upstairs to ourselves - particularly because there were 4 of us travelling together.
Ed was a great host, even taking the time to search out to the local churches for my in-laws.
Would definitely recommend this place, particularly if you are travelling with multiple people.
Ed and Kate have been excellent hosts. They are really friendly. Ed gave us a lot of advice and very useful maps and tourism documentations. We learnt a lot with them about Australia.
Rooms are clean and we had a whole level for ourselves.
Their home is in a suburb of Melbourne, but it's easy to go to downtown Melbourne by bus and train. There are several restaurants and stores close to their home.
We strongly recommend them. Thank you again. Guy,Guillaume and Anne.
About the Host, Ed And Kate
We are a British/Australian couple who moved to Melbourne in 2011, after living in the UK for several years. Ed grew up in Melbourne and works in IT, Kate is from Scotland and works for a national non-profit organisation.
We have stayed in Air BnB accommodation in Barcelona, Budapest, Singapore, San Francisco and Hobart, so we have an idea of what it's like for both hosts and travellers using the site.
We've travelled to quite a few countries together, including Iceland, Japan, Canada and the US. One of our favourite journeys was a train trip around Europe visiting Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Italy and Spain.
We try to be careful and considerate when staying with Air BnB hosts and expect the same from those coming to stay with us.
