About this listing
You will be able to experience normal Nepalese family's way of living and culture as it is by living with us.
A cozy and comfortable stay with Nepalese family fulfilling some of your basic needs in Nepal.
Alvin's Room was named after the room was transformed from storage space to accommodate my close friend Alvin Tai from Seattle, USA who was in Nepal on a business trip for a week. We used artifacts and handicrafts to decorate the room traditionally while keeping it simple.
Conveniently located in the heart of Kathmandu valley and just a minute walk from all major public transportation. Nearby restaurants, banks, and grocery shops.
Short walk to airport, some of the Word Heritage Sites, short &easy bicycle ride to all major attractions (Historical Palaces, Temples, Stupas, Monasteries and popular Tourist Hangouts).
We have had many friends from abroad spending their time in our house because of the warmth and location. You will get to blend with our family, taste Nepali food and experience the culture just the way it is for us everyday. We treat you like our own family.
We will assist you along your tour in negotiating costs for excursions and adventures to make it fun and memorable while making it most reasonable. We'll provide you a sim card for your telephone need (cost to be born by you) if you request for it.
At no additional cost, we'll serve you three cups of tea everyday. You may bring provision/ groceries and cook. We'll teach you Nepali Lessons for as long as you stay with us at a time convenient to both you and a member of our family.
For additional guest (there will be a cleaning fee of 10 dollars if your stay is for a week). If you stay for long time, you will be responsible for the cleaning of room and everything else you use. Please be sensible while using non-sticky pans and use wooden tools in it. Also, please ask before using Pressure Cooker and Gas Oven because it can be dangerous and cause injury if not used properly.
You can go to the roof of the house and just about any where. During festivals and special occasions, we invite you to participate with us and our neighbors.
Cigarette smoking is not allowed inside the house. Please use areas outside of the house or the rooftop.
Interaction with guests
As and when we are available, we offer help to show you local restaurants, bus stops, taxi stands etc. I do have a motorbike and can take you around for a small fee. In my free times, I am also available for guiding you around the city or sight seeing in the hills around Kathmandu Valley.
Ours is a laid back but lively neighborhood with a beautiful temple just two minutes walk. It does get noisy in the morning as people make their presence felt to others with loud greetings. Also, there are vegetable vendors, recycling guys, trash collector etc who make noise to sell fresh green vegetables, collect beer bottles and trashes respectively.
We are less than 5 minutes walk from major public transportation system because of the proximity of the most important temple in the country and the airport. Technically, we are very close to all major part of the city.
Don't forget to grab a city map after you collect your baggage at the airport. There is an information desk before the airport exit. Sim cards and Prepaid Taxi counter is also located before you exit the airport terminal.
Please bring a Mask and Glasses to avoid smoke and dust.
Other things to note
If you wish to use the washing machine, there is a charge of 3 dollars per use. We'll give you one load laundry detergent. Please ask us us prior to using the machine because may not be familiar in using it.
Water and electricity is of scarce in Kathmandu so we request all the guests to use them wisely.
We request you to bring an additional slipper for use inside the house. You will have to leave your outdoor shoes at the main entrance because the streets are not so clean and remain muddy when it rains. There is a separate shoes for toilet to keep it dirt free.
Our house rule is no different than your own. Just be respectful to the culture and tradition. We request those who stay longer to clean their room from time to time (Disposing Trash from Kitchen use and toilets properly in the bins, taking them out to the trash collector in the morning who comes two to three times a week) and also contribute in water and electricity as well as gas use if you use the gas oven to cook food.
Please also clean the toilets and kitchen properly after using them. We keep it clean for all.
Smoking is only allowed in the roof and open spaces.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.
