Oceanna and Alburn are two of the nicest most helpful Antiguans you could wish to meet. They really went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed, so friendly and warm. The house is not a purpose built vacation apartment, it is a local house in a local area. There are two double bedrooms (one kingsize bed in the main bedroom) with air con in both rooms, each room has a fitted wardrobe with plenty of storage space, bedside cabinets and lights plus a dressing table with drawers. There is a plentiful supply of towels and bedding etc., you can also use any of the towels on the beach. The bathroom has a perfectly adequate shower with loo and basin. The living area is large with 2 comfortable wicker style chairs and a tv and air con, there is also a table for eating at with 4 chairs. The kitchen has a large gas cooker, a modern huge fridge freezer, double sink, coffee maker, toaster and all the usual cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils needed. The top loading washing machine is outside on the patio area in its own cupboard which apparently is the norm in Antigua to save room inside. The patio area has a plastic table and chairs and is surrounded by mango, lemon and other fruit trees, a great place for breakfast. The gardens are beautifully maintained by Alburn who grows all of his own vegetables. The road outside the house is quite narrow but there is a parking space alongside the house so you don't have to leave your car on the road. There isn't a safe in the accommodation but we felt perfectly happy, safe and secure at all times. The internet access seemed to be fast and reliable.
For us it was the perfect spot from which to explore Antigua, you can catch a local bus from the main road but it's probably easier to hire a car or a taxi if you want to reach all of the out of the way places. Jolly Harbour with its modern supermarket and amenities is about 10 mins away by car and there is also a Bank and ATM (website hidden). John's, the Capitol is about 25 mins away by car.
It's a 10 minute walk to Turners Beach which although sometimes busy is still one of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua and there are lovely beach bars and restaurants. Locally there are other beautiful beaches worth exploring - Darkwood and Ffreyers are just stunning. There is a local supermarket 100 yards away which sells almost everything you would expect from a corner shop.
To sum up, it is possible to rent state of the art, purpose built vacation accommodation but if you're looking for something a bit more adventurous and local then you cannot beat Oceanna Oasis at Turners. If we were going back to this part of Antigua we would definitely stay here again, we loved Oceanna, Alburn and the house.
I am 5ft 8ins tall with weight 160 pounds, brown eyes. The 5 things I can't live without are: ability to swim, enjoying the sunshine, the magnificent sea water and sand. My favourite travel destinations include North America as well as the the islands of Montserrat, St. Lucia, Barbados and Nevis.
