Perfectly equipped studio located in "The Shire" a beautiful little village complex that is tucked away and very unique to west hollywood and built by Charlie Chaplin.

The Space

As another member of one of West Hollywood's most-coveted historic listings, this studio was built by Charlie Chaplin in the 1920s as an ideally-located village for his crewmen.

There is a queen-sized bed
a well equipped kitchen minus the oven.
a large bathroom complete with bath, perfect for lying back and relaxing after a day of site seeing.
There is as well
a flat screen television with Cable / Apple TV
a laundry hut past the common gardens with a washer/dryer that is a dollar in quarters per load.

Other cottages in this fairytale Shire have housed many familiar names, from Marilyn Monroe (across the courtyard in the princess turret bedroom with slot windows) to now-a-days Patrick Dempsey. Recalling a European cob village, the complex's exteriors boast hand-cut stable doors, whittled wood beams, bespoke windows with windy rubber ribbing (some very large with original Tiffany stained-glass scenes), and medieval-style staircases with oxidized copper rooster wind-turns atop white-washed towers.

"The Shire" is tucked away behind a wooded gate on a tree-lined street a surprising few minutes from the hustle and bustle.

There is one of every grocery store within three blocks, and to be in the grid of Santa Monica Blvd / Sunset / Melrose & Fairfax / La Brea is an unbeatable location as per proximity to anything.

Public transit buses whiz down SMB at any moment, with a maximum twenty minutes of drive time to every corner of Los Angeles, sans traffic.

As this will be like staying at a fully-furnished pal's place (I will be leaving many amenities as-is in the bathroom and kitchen and closet) plus a few extra goodies,

[Wifi Internet and guest permit passes for street parking are included.]

Interaction with Guests

I am always around "the shire" and can be contacted anytime, should you need something. Most of the time, should everything be fine, it will be like having your own LA apartment.

The Neighborhood

Plenty to see and do around the area. One great thing about the street where the apartment is located on is that you can walk around safely anytime of the day and night and feel completely safe.

For those that love to hike, Entrance to Runyon Canyon is a 10 min walk up the street.

Beautiful tree lined, family friendly street.

PERMIT STREET PARKING available right outside complex, i do provide the PERMIT for you.

  • Simon was responsive and flexible with the check-in, which I appreciate because it took us much longer to get from the airport to the studio than I thought. The room is clean and comfortable and in a great location in W. Hollywood. The complex itself is very cool and there is a great patio area outside. I love the historical aspect of the complex as well.

  • I enjoyed my two weeks staying in the studio. The location is so great - allowed for me to walk to restaurants and shops easily, and soak in the charm of the neighborhood.
The only cons, from my perspective: No coffee maker or toaster. The small windows back up to the trash alley so people are coming and dumping their trash often.
Otherwise, it was perfect for what I needed. Clean - the shower was super with strong water pressure. Parking wasn't too difficult unless I came home really late sometimes I parked a little further down the street.
All in all, I would recommend staying here!

The location is also great. Simon was really nice and helpful and our stay there was perfect!

  • Simon was a nice and helpful host. His explanation notes and the disposal were easy and exact. The good things about the apartment are, it's very central to everything around, we got there pretty easy, parking was no problem at all, since Simon told us when and where and the size of the apartment was perfect for 2 people. We had a very pleasant stay - thank you.

  • Place was easy to find, and central to everything. Simon is a great host - meeting me upon check-in, and there to receive keys and parking pass at check-out.

  • The studio is truly magical. The building reminded me of an old Hollywood hide-a-way. The studio is neslted amongst a castle like building that appears to be out of a fairy tale. The space is well appointed, quiet, clean and has plenty of parking. It is a great place for a quick stay on your trip to LA.

  • Simon's place is wonderful and I'm happy to have had the chance to stay in such an interesting place. The complex is whimsical and dripping with history. And the location's great. It's a little small but plenty big for 1-2 people. Simon was also very helpful. Stay there if you can!

  • The place definitely was magical just like in the pictures.. On a nice quiet street but still within walking distance to everything you'd need. The bed was super comfy as well.
I'd definitely recommend staying here and would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • I can highly recommend this place! Simon's description is very precise! He is a great host and the appartment has everything you need! Plus food shopping is within short walking distance so you don't necessarily need a rental car. I loved this place!
