Come stay at Juniper House, a 4-person cooperative household. We have a sunny, spacious, clean guest room, with a queen sized bed. There is plenty of common space including a big, bright, eat-in kitchen, perfect for breakfast, or packing a lunch to take on your Bay Area adventure.
The house is from 1905. There are lots of windows. There is a big formal dining room with a piano and a working fireplace, and a spacious living room with a big picture window. There is great people watching from either the couch or the porch. Outside is a smallish garden with some herbs, fruit trees, and a few greens.
We are happy to pick up any grocery items that you might need, just let us know. If you wish to share food extensively, or even want a romantic catered dinner, or breakfast in bed, we can probably arrange something.
Sometimes some of us are around, but we all have pretty busy lifestyles. We are friendly and love to meet new people, but also respectful of privacy, and don't require a lot of interaction.
We are all lefty/ liberal/ anarchist types. Aside from myself (AJ, see profile), there is D: 60's, editor, kitchen witch, permaculture enthusiast, works from home, has lived in Juniper House for 25 + years, G: 30's, yoga teacher, music lover, bike lover, and likes to chill at home, R: 30's great cook, resourceful food gatherer, and a fun person to be around.
There is one main bathroom with a decent shower and not-fancy tub, which you would be sharing with 3 of us. If you need the shower at a certain time just let us know and we can make sure it is free. There is also a backup bathroom, through the downstairs bedroom which is usually available.
Our neighborhood has been called both Greater Mosswood and KONO ("Koreatown Northgate"). We are about 5 blocks from MacArthur BART (15-20 minute trip into SF) and 1 block from Telegraph bus lines. We are near Kaiser and Summit/ Pill Hill. There is a nearby bike shop where you can rent bikes by the day (I believe $25 includes lock and helmet). You can park your bike inside the house.
We are also near a great bagel shop, delicious coffee place, and not far from the Uptown and Temescal neighborhoods, with lots of great restaurants about a 20 minute walk away. Mosswood Park is at the end of our block, with tennis courts, playing fields, a small amphitheater, basketball courts, and a big lawn for relaxing on.
There is some noise from the freeway, and of course sharing a house with 4 people, nothing too bad, but if you are very sensitive to noise it is something you may want to consider. There is permit street parking, passes are $1/ day, or $5/week. NO CLEANING FEE, just don't make a mess :)
Our house is queer/ trans friendly, and 420 friendly ( a couple of us use medical cannabis). No pets live here, but occasionally a friend's dog will visit.
If this sounds like a good match for you, please get in touch and please have a profile with something about yourself, interests, special needs, etc.
Hope to see you soon!

Very clean and tidy house. Friendly, welcoming and easygoing house mates. The room was very nice and with a very COMFORTABLE bed. Great shower and clean bathroom. We felt at home and the housemates were very knowledgable with regards to the surrounding area. They gave suggestions of things to visit and do. The house is close to all transits and walkable to the downtown area with bars and restaurants. I would stay here again if I came back to Oakland. Thank you for having us :-)
Super fantastic. AJ and the crew were gracious hosts, and are attentive to the needs of their guests. It was fun to spend time at the house, and the spacious bedroom worked well for us. A great way to experience Oakland!
This is a great place to stay for Bay Area travelers on a budget. The folks are friendly, fun, and flexible, you can have as much or as little interaction as you'd like. I felt like their room mate for the week. The room is spacious and comfortable. I was concerned about parking but found a space on the same block every time. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested.
My partner and I stayed here over the weekend for a wedding. The house is adorable, the bed is comfortable, and the water pressure in the shower is great. Diana checked us in, showed us where the coffee was, invited us to share food for breakfast, and said goodnight. A perfect first airbnb experience - highly recommended. Thanks Juniper House!
I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Fun, smart roommates, the room was clean and comfortable. Clean bathroom, harmonious surroundings. I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed my time here very much. Also having access to a well-equipped kitchen was a big plus.
The place and housemates here were fantastic! I needed a home base while I was starting a new job and searching for a place to live. Juniper House was awesome! The room was huge, clean, and really comfortable. They had a nice little closet and a dresser for my use and a chair to relax in. Everyone was helpful and sweet. I got lots of tips for where to look for a place... and I got to feel like I had a home already. They shared food, were super okay with me hanging out with them, and were just all-around fabulous! The house is great, homey, clean, and cozy.
I would definitely recommend this as a spot for a home away from home. They said that people staying there had great karma for finding a good place to live... and I can attest to that. I found a fabulous place that was ready just as my 2-week stay came to an end.
Hosts AJ and Diana were very friendly and accommodating. Their co-op home is located in a beautiful historic neighborhood which was a pleasure to visit. Our room and shared bathroom were very clean, bed was comfortable, location was quiet. I would definitely recommend! K and T
Good, clean room, comfortably-located from the BART station! People there were very friendly, and for the price it was definitely worth it.
I loved to be at Juniper House. Great big bed, super good shower, poetic home. And the guys are awesome! Go ahead!
We had great time in the Juniper House. Guys who live there are very nice and hospitable. We recommend the Juniper House to everyone, it's the best place in Oakland for sure!
