Forbes just named our town, Kapaa as one of the 15 prettiest towns in America.
In the Aug. 16 photo gallery posted on the Forbes Magazine website, Kapaa is described as having “a small-town Polynesian paradise quality that feels much more connected to the island’s past,” that is “unlike the high-rise strewn beaches that line so many of Hawaii’s stretches of coast.”
“It’s a very Hawaiian town with traditional ukulele makers and fish taco trucks parked under the palm trees.” Evans wrote. “It’s a small town with a lot of Hawaiian life, minus the tourist fray.”
Staying with Cyndie was wonderful! And I am happy to write this review. I was traveling solo and it was perfect for me, but I can also see this being a perfect room for a couple.
Everything was just how Cyndie said it would be. The place is situated high in the hills above Kapa'a town, which is very easy to get to and convenient. The property is lovely and very peaceful, and you can expect peace and quiet (except the roosters!), as there are no houses or loud neighbors nearby.
The room is impeccably clean with new microwave and mini fridge and updated bathroom with shower. It is also spacious, with plenty of closet and storage space, and lots of light. The ceiling fan above the bed kept the room as cool as I needed it to be, and opening the windows let in the cool night air.
Cyndie is a superb hostess. She was kind and ready with all the information I could ask for, and had everything ready to welcome me on my arrival. She keeps a clean house and even sprays for bugs, so you can (email hidden)! (I liked that.) Also, I would come home some days to find that day's pick of fresh fruit (bananas, papayas) waiting for me on the porch.
My stay in Kauai was fabulous, and staying with Cyndie made it even more so.
I enjoyed my stay at Cyndie's, she's a sweet lady with good restaurant recommendations and she even left some tomatoes from the garden for me! The location is very tranquil, outdoor space is huge, and it's a short drive to town. There are dogs in the backyard but they never made a peep!
Our stay at Aunt Cyndies was perfect for our needs. It's a beautiful property nestled in the country. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Kauai. Mahalo!
My boyfriend and I stayed there for 5 nigths and we really liked it! We had a great time at cyndies home! You will find there everything you need. We got beachtowels, beach chairs, a cooler box and so on. You can also make coffee and tea. There are tea bags and coffee prepared for you. Cyndie has a really nice garden with bana trees and a lot of green. Really great is, that you get very good guide books which are so helpful to explore the beautyful island! Besides the home of cyndie is really good located.
Cyndie, thank you for our stay!
Nice clean room. Very quiet, lots of privacy. It feels more like a hotel room, you have your own bathroom and no access to the other rooms. We enjoyed that since we mostly needed a place to stay at night.
We were able to make sandwiches with the provided cutlery and cutting board. Small fridge could house all our ingredients. There was some local coffee ready to brew in the provided coffee maker. Very convenient.
Kapa'a is very close by and, again, convenient. Some good restaurants in there. Definitely try the Hemingway Art Cafe and Verde.
All in all, this was perfect.
Beautiful countryside location above Kapaa. Clean and peaceful. Cyndie is kind and generous. Even the young dogs are polite and quiet.
We enjoyed our stay in spite of the rainy weather. The room was comfortable and clean, as was the bathroom. The wifi was weak and sporadic, which was a problem at times
We stayed at Cyndies for 10 nights recently and I would definitely recommend it. Cyndies lovely and a good host, she gave us recommendations for places to eat, the best beaches and we even got to try her avocados, coconut and banana's all grown on the property. Not to mention the delicous cookies! The room we had was large and comfortable- large enough to hang out on the rainy days- along with a big bathroom and walk in closet, with everything you need- fridge, coffee maker and coffee, extra towles, beach chairs...
Overall We were very happy
Cyndie & Doug are great and gracious folks and we had fun discussions. They went above and beyond our expectations. We appreciated the little unexpected gifts of bananas and avocados during our 2 weeks here.
Tho it is inland on rural narrow winding roads, (You will need a car- I recommend (website hidden) street view for the first trip in), the location is actually very central to exploring the whole island and only 5 min to Kapaa and to Kealia, one of the best beaches, and 3 min to a good hospital.
The spacious, well cared for, 2 acre yard is a great place to wander and take in the flowers, fruits and cocos.
There was a lot of (warm) rain during our 2 weeks but the large, well lit room was not crowded during home stays.
We first had the room by the stairs which has a great view of the yard tho privacy was occasionally a minor concern with other guests walking by to other rooms (we felt we had to keep curtains closed mornings and evenings) and had no lanai to speak of so, if you hang around home, you tend to be inside. Not a big deal.
The ubiquitous roosters took getting used to (common to all places in Kauai) and we felt we had to close the windows at night which was fine and comfortable.
However the room on the north corner, ground floor, was noticeably quieter, lighter and more private.
The best rooms are the ocean view ones and worth the little bit extra with their covered lanais, privacy and morning light and nicer during rainy days.
The 2 young dogs are quiet, well behaved and very friendly and we grew fond of them. The cat was also friendly and well behaved. There was no sign of fleas which we were concerned with being on the ground floor.
All things considered, we would go back in a heart beat and hope to do so soon.
Cyndie's place was wonderful, clean, fully stocked with almost everything a traveller could need. Very close to Kapaa, but probably do need a car or be very good on a bike to get up the road. All in all, a great experience. Thanks again.
