About this listing
An attractive, ultra-romantic Bed&Breakfast semi-cottage is waiting for you in our restored 1930s-era vacation home in celebrated Healdsburg We consider our B&B not as an “alternative to pricy downtown lodgings” but as a destination in itself for those who want to take full advantage of the delights of the Healdsburg-area Wine Country while at the same time luxuriating in the peacefulness of a secluded corner of northern Sonoma County and enjoying its recreational opportunities. Not least, it is the IDEAL place to celebrate that special occasion or birthday!
At Heaven in the Oaks, you can relax in your own private, quiet patio. You can take a walk or jog through the oaks and redwoods; the path starts right outside your front door. You can swim/kayak in the Russian River (5 minutes below your patio)… yet you are just a quick 3.1-mile, 8-minute (honest!) drive to Healdsburg’s historic, colorful Plaza, shops, restaurants, & tasting rooms.
We have only one guest room--and it really is almost a separate, private cottage (200 sq.ft room + bathroom & 200 sq.ft. patio). Our objective is to give you an ultra-enjoyable stay, right from the moment you check in. And we’re “on-site hosts”--ready to give you whatever you need. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a glass of wine (do you like red or white?) and an array of tasty snacks--or, in cooler months, a mug of hot soup, if you like.
You will enjoy:
A cozy, light-filled sitting room-bedroom with
• gorgeous, spacious armoire • beautiful furniture & carpet • writing table and comfortable chairs • queen-size bed • private patio • two windows overlooking a wooded creek & canyon (where you may see our deer “family” placidly grazing just a few feet below your window) • electric fireplace • ceiling fan & air-conditioner • other amenities, including mini-fridge, microwave oven, coffee-maker, DVD player + DVDs, total picnic needs, iron & board, robes & slippers, & free, secure Wi-fi internet. (Please note that it is a room not a suite!)
Totally private, connecting bathroom with tub & shower
Reserved parking spot right in front & private front entrance
French doors opening onto a walled, flower-filled private patio, with privacy gate, for dining and relaxing, as well as a radiant gas heater for al fresco breakfasts on chilly mornings. And oh, the starry sky above (moon permitting)!
A truly gourmet breakfast brought to you.
We are actually the ONLY TRUE B&B in the Healdsburg area, since we are the only B&B that serves you a bounteous, home-made breakfast, with a lengthy menu of delicious choices, delivered to your door at the time you request (crack of dawn or sleep in). Enjoy morning-fresh eggs from Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, and Carrie. Our guests love our unique offerings! As one guest wrote: "I didn’t have to get dressed to go out or to a common dining room. I stayed in my room, no make-up, hair in a mess and in my pj's! They brought me what I wanted, when I wanted it, hot and fresh to my door.” Another said that she felt she was a princess being pampered. Even if you’re not a princess, we want you to feel special.
What we offer makes Heaven on the Oaks a true destination in itself!
And we love guests who are looking for just such a place!

Ours is a quiet rural road nestled in beautiful oaks, redwoods, California bay, and buckeye trees near the bottom of Fitch Mountain. It was a popular riverside vacation area in the 1920s and 1930s for families from the San Francisco area; many of the houses are (like ours, 2,000 sq.ft.) converted and enlarged summer homes. Fitch Mountain is known for its interesting local history, eclectic building styles, beautiful views, secluded neighborhoods, and friendly spirit.
Step out your door, and a five-minute walk below our B&B is the Russian River, where you can launch your canoe/kayak, or just picnic (we’ll give you a “picnic pack” with everything you’ll need) and watch everyone float by. We can email you complete information on kayaking/canoeing opportunities and rental services.
Or head up our road: it quickly becomes a popular walking and biking path right in the midst of the forest, while a path in the opposite direction takes you on an easy ascent to the top of Fitch Mountain (all 981 feet of it!), currently being developed as a nature preserve. This is paradise for walkers, hikers, joggers, and cyclists. Nearby, and stretching to the coast, are a host of city, county, and state parks of every size and description. We can email you complete information on popular walking trails--including a fascinating one to the Healdsburg Ridge Park, which you can access from your room. And we can send you full information.
We can also send you a list of local bicycle rental shops and what they each offer. Just ask.
Healdsburg is a destination--rated #2 in the Smithsonian Magazine's "Top 20 Towns to Visit in 2014" & #1 in CitiesJournal’s April 2014 “Top 15 Small Cities in California,” with its famous Plaza--voted among the 10 best in the U.S.-and world-class shopping, restaurants, and winery tasting rooms.
Wine-tasting is just minutes away. You might start with a few of Healdsburg’s 30 tasting-rooms right downtown, or just head for the wineries themselves. Among the winery-filled areas, in 8 to 30 minutes you will be at famous wineries in Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill, and Sonoma Valley. We are truly in the heart of the Sonoma County Wine Country! In your room you’ll find full information, plus maps and free tasting passes to over 30 wineries. Kathryn owned her own winery, and Dave worked 30 years in the Napa-Sonoma wine industry (he now works in the Italian wine industry), and we will be happy to share our knowledge with you. We can email you our own winery visit recommendations, organized into 10 “admittedly-subjective” categories!
And more. You might want to head into downtown Healdsburg for a great meal in one of our many prized restaurants (the list we sent you!). Healdsburg and nearby towns boast rich programs of year-round wine events (every month!); jazz and musical events; art galleries and shows; famous running and cycling competitions (e.g., Amgen race and Grand Fondo, and the Fitch Mountain foot race); river races and festivals; craft beer shows (Sonoma County has 22 craft brewers), Farmers Market (Saturday mornings, 9-12; Wednesdays, 4-6pm, May-Nov); and a multitude of farms that supply the best restaurants in Northern California. Healdsburg’s public golf course is 5 minutes down the road. We will provide you with lots of maps & tourism materials.
We are an hour and a half from San Francisco airport (bus service to Healdsburg) and 15 minutes from the Santa Rosa airport.
We look forward to hosting you!
Kathryn and Dave Henderson

Dave and Kathryn are wonderful folks with a real gem of a place so close to downtown Healdsburg. Perfect for those visiting wine country. The place is perfectly private, quiet, and idyllically situated and embedded into a steep, lush hillside that allows you to soak in the surroundings of oaks, redwoods, birds, nature, and the Russian River within walking distance. They both are extremely warm and charming, considerate, attentive, and accommodating. They both go out of their way to make their guests feel at home while respecting their space and privacy. Not to mention their stellar culinary skills and presentation, including beautiful antique china that just tops it off. (Loved the towel warmer by the way!) Their listing description was extensive and very complete, and we really appreciated the maps, list of wineries and restaurants provided after booking, as this was our first time visiting this part of the country which can be a bit overwhelming from a site-seeing / planning standpoint. They put a lot of time and first hand experience into these materials. A real benefit for out of town guests. Thank you Dave and Kathryn. From one Host to another, you guys are in a class of your own, and come highly recommended by this Host. Please visit us in PA sometime!!
We had a wonderful time staying at this BnB! Dave and Kathryn were excellent hosts from the start with inviting us into their home for a quick chat and intro to the surrounding area. We followed a few of their recommendations on wineries and really enjoyed the Zinfandel recommendations! The room was quaint and beautiful and I loved the private patio outside. You can really tell Dave and Kathryn love doing this!
Thank you Dave and Kathryn for making our experience so enjoyable!
We had a wonderful trip! Our hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming!!! Would definitely go back!
Kathryn and Dave are absolutely wonderful hosts! We stayed at Heaven in the Oaks for our honeymoon, and we will forever cherish the memories we have of it. From the very beginning, Kathryn and Dave treated us with such hospitality, welcoming us with two glasses of wine and snacks on the patio table. Each morning, we woke up to a delicious homemade breakfast arranged beautifully on a tray waiting on the table outside our doors. The mosaic artwork, beautiful foliage, fairy lights, and the small burbling fountain on the patio all contributed to an incredibly peaceful and lovely atmosphere, both in the mornings and at night! Also, we really enjoyed the walk to the top of Fitch Mountain. Overall, our experience at Heaven in the Oaks was exquisite, and we would love to stay there again!
We only spent one night in "Heaven" and enjoyed our stay immensely. It's in our top 5 of places to stay! Kathryn and David are wonderful hosts. Great food, quiet location, close to the Dry Creek Valley wineries; try Willie's in town for tapas. The cottage is delightfully decorated.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heaven in the Oakes. The amount of care, thought, and work that Dave and Kathryn have put into this property are impressive and are evident from the moment you arrive. We did not have to ask them a single question because every question we had was covered in documents they provided before our arrival or in little notes and documents in the suite.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by Dave and given a tour of the suite. Each morning we began with a delicious breakfast on the patio. The variety of choices available for breakfast were impressive and we enjoyed it each morning. After breakfast we took advantage of what might have been our favorite part of the location, the hiking trail that begins on their street. The trail is in excellent condition and moderate enough for most anyone to enjoy. We began at slightly different times every morning and were amazed at how different things looked with different light. While it is described in the property listing, we had forgotten it until Dave gave us the map. It was truly a treat. We also went to the river one morning which is a very quick walk from the house.
We spent our days in wine country and came back to the suite each night after dinner. We did come back for a few quick afternoon breaks which was easy to do as the property is quite convenient to the Healdsburg city center as described. We enjoyed sleeping with the windows open at night and never found a need to use the air conditioner.
We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a restful, peaceful retreat.
are you kidding?? a delightful glass of wine and poo poo snacks waiting in our private courtyard on arrival!! doesn't get much better than that!! the room and courtyard were exactly as depicted in the airbnb adds…….the neighborhood was quiet, peaceful, and serene; in short, perfect! Dave and Kathryn Henderson are great hosts!!!
