An attractive, ultra-romantic Bed&Breakfast “cottage” is waiting for you in our restored 1930s-era vacation home in Healdsburg (rated #2 in the Smithsonian Magazine's "Top 20 Towns to Visit in 2014" & #1 in CitiesJournal’s April 2014 “Top 15 Small Cities in California”). We consider our B&B not as an “alternative to pricy downtown lodgings” but as a “destination in itself” for those who want to take full advantage of the delights of the Healdsburg-area Wine Country while at the same time luxuriating in the peacefulness of a secluded corner of northern Sonoma County and enjoying its recreational opportunities. Not least, it is the IDEAL place to celebrate that special anniversary or birthday!
At Heaven in the Oaks, you can relax in your own private, quiet patio (you may hear one car passing every half-hour). You can take a walk or jog through the oaks and redwoods; the path starts right outside your front door. You can swim/kayak in the Russian River (5 minutes below your patio), yet you are just a quick 7-minute (honest!) drive to Healdsburg’s historic, colorful Plaza (voted among the 10 best in the U.S.) with its world-class shopping, restaurants, and 30 winery tasting rooms.
You will enjoy:
● A cozy, light-filled sitting room-bedroom with
• gorgeous, spacious armoire • luxurious carpet and beautiful furniture • writing table and comfortable chairs • queen-size bed • private patio • two windows overlooking a wooded creek & canyon (where you may see our deer “family” placidly grazing just a few feet below your window) • electric fireplace • other amenities, including mini-fridge, coffee-maker, DVD player + DVDs, total picnic needs, iron & board, robes & slippers, & Wi-fi internet. (No air-conditioning needed: in the trees on the mountain, we’re cooler than elsewhere, but the room has a very efficient ceiling fan, too.)
● Totally private, connecting bathroom with tub & shower
● Reserved parking spot right in front
● Private front entrance
● French doors opening onto a walled, flower-filled private patio for dining and relaxing. And oh, the starry sky above (moon permitting)!
● A truly gourmet breakfast brought to you.
We are actually the ONLY TRUE B&B in the Healdsburg area, since we are the only B&B that serves you a bounteous, home-made breakfast, with a lengthy menu of delicious choices, delivered to your door at the time you request (crack of dawn or sleep in). Enjoy morning-fresh eggs from our Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, and Carrie. Our guests JUST LOVE this unique offering! Why go elsewhere, where you have to bring in your breakfast supplies, or go to a café? As a guest wrote: "I didn’t have to get dressed to go out or to a common dining room. I stayed in my room, no make-up, hair in a mess and in my pj's! They brought me what I wanted, when I wanted it, hot and fresh to my door.”
No, we are not “just a place to stay in Healdsburg.”
What we offer makes Heaven on the Oaks a true destination in itself!
And we love guests who are looking for just such a place!
We have only one guest room--and it really is almost a separate, private cottage. Our objective is to give you an ultra-enjoyable stay, right from the moment you check in. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a carafe of wine (do you like red or white?) and an array of tasty local snacks.
You might want to head into downtown Healdsburg for excellent shopping and a great meal in one of our many prized restaurants (just ask for our personal list), or just lounge about on your private patio.
The next morning, roll out of bed and enjoy, whenever you want it, a sumptuous breakfast with selections you have made from an array of delicious choices, including juices, fresh fruit bowl, bagels, granola, Kathryn’s world-famous muffins, oatmeal, eggs any which way, huge breakfast burrito, etc.--as one guest put it, I felt I was a princess being pampered. Even if you’re not a princess, we want you to feel pampered.
• single or couple only • single-night stays OK
• PLEASE: no children, pets, or smoking
Ours is a quiet rural road nestled in beautiful oaks, redwoods, California bay, and buckeye trees near the bottom of Fitch Mountain. It was a riverside vacation area in the 1920s and 1930s for families from the San Francisco area; many of the houses are (like ours, 2,000 sq.ft.) converted and enlarged summer homes. Fitch Mountain is known for its interesting local history, eclectic building styles, beautiful views, secluded neighborhoods, and friendly spirit.
Step out your door, and a five-minute walk below our B&B is the Russian River, where you can launch your canoe/kayak, or just picnic (we’ll give you a “picnic pack” with everything you’ll need) and watch everyone float by. We can email you complete information on kayaking/canoeing opportunities and rental services.
Or head up our road: it becomes a popular walking and biking path right in the midst of the forest, while a path in the opposite direction takes you on an easy ascent to the top of Fitch Mountain (all 911 feet of it!), currently being developed as a nature preserve. This is paradise for walkers, hikers, joggers, and cyclists! Nearby, and stretching to the coast, are a host of city, county, and state parks of every size and description. We can email you complete information on popular walking trails--including a fascinating one to the Healdsburg Ridge Park, which you can access from your room. And we can send you full information.
We can also send you a list of local bicycle rental shops and what they each offer. Just ask.
Wine-tasting is just minutes away. You might start with Healdsburg’s winery tasting-rooms right downtown, or just head for the wineries themselves. Among the winery-filled areas, in 8 to 30 minutes you will be at famous wineries in Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill, and Sonoma Valley. We are truly in the heart of the Sonoma County Wine Country! In your room you’ll find full information, plus maps and free tasting passes to over 30 wineries! Kathryn owned her own winery, and Dave worked 30 years in the Napa-Sonoma wine industry (he now works in the Italian wine industry), and we will be happy to share our knowledge with you. We can email you our own winery visit recommendations, organized into 10 “admittedly-subjective” categories!
And more. Healdsburg and nearby towns boast rich programs of year-round wine events (every month!); jazz and musical events; art galleries and shows; famous running and cycling competitions (e.g., Amgen race and Grand Fondo, and the Fitch Mountain foot race); river races and festivals; craft beer shows (Sonoma County has 20 craft brewers!), Farmers Market (Saturday mornings, 9-12; Wednesdays, 4-6pm, May-Nov); and a multitude of farms that supply the best restaurants in Northern California. Healdsburg’s public golf course is 5 minutes down the road. We will provide you with lots of maps & tourism materials!
We are an hour and a half from San Francisco airport (bus service to Healdsburg) and 15 minutes from the Santa Rosa airport.
We look forward to hosting you!
Kathryn and Dave Henderson
Had a wonderful stay in Healdsburg, great area to visit. Dave and Kathryn were excellent hosts, very attentive and helpful.
Beautiful little retreat in the mountains just outside of Healdsburg. Quick drive to downtown restaurants, and the clusters of wineries in Dry Creek were just 15 minutes away.
Kathryn and Dave were really nice and attentive without getting in the way.
We were there during an unusually hot weekend, so the mosquitoes were plentiful. The outdoor patio is lovely! but there isn't space to sit relax inside.
We would definitely stay again!
We had a phenomenal time at Dave & Kathryn's Healdsburg listing! The studio is located a short distance from the city with the river just a few minutes walk. Dave and Kathryn are the ultimate hosts and so welcoming. The studio was incredibly clean and beautifully decorated. Dave & Kathryn provided us with a wine and snacks upon arrival, a nightcap with cookies when we returned from dinner, and an amazing breakfast in the morning. We were wowed! Dave & Kathryn provide you with a list of Healdsburg recommendations that really helped with our first-time trip to Healdsburg. I would highly recommend this place to any Airbnb user. We look forward to returning. Thanks again!
Heaven in the Oaks was exactly what I was looking for! So quiet and relaxing on Fitch Mountain yet only a few minutes away from town. Would definitely stay again when I'm in the area.
Heaven in the Oaks was truly that. We absolutely loved our stay. Breakfast was amazing, location was quiet, decor was beautiful, and hosts were wonderful. Being so close to the river was an extra treat. We would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful home and hope to be back one day again ourselves.
Heaven in the Oaks was a quiet wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of wine country, yet it is actually just minutes from the town square. The hosts Kathryn and Dave were so nice and welcoming and so eager to help make the visit special. They seemed to have thought of everything and have added lots of nice little touches. There were surprises, but they were all wonderful little touches to make the stay memorable.
Dave and Kathryn's B&B was almost exactly as described: quiet, welcoming, convenient to town but private, and most of all in a wonderful area of small, charming homes near hiking trails and the Russian River. What the description left out was only the feeling we had by the time we left of wanting to live there among the jasmine and hummingbirds and colorful mosaics. We couldn't have had a nicer time.
Heaven in the Oaks (email hidden) to stay while visiting wine country. It's so cozy we're looking forward to going back in the winter time. Kathryn was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. Thanks so much!
Heaven in the Oaks rocks! Healdsburg is (email hidden). Kathryn and Dave (he delivered our breakfast, but didn't meet him) are fabulous hosts. Kathryn met us and filled us in on all the details and the festivities in town (it was the opening weekend of the Healdsburg fair and parade night.."half the town is in the parade, and the other half watches"-including us). The room was cozy and romantic. The water feature tinkled all night and the cool mountain air and night sounds were wonderful. The blooming jasmine was smellerific. Kathryn's decorating skills were obvious and exquisite. This is our new favorite in Healdsburg!
P.S. Try the Healdsburg Segway Tour to the wineries. Great fun and wine!
We had a wonderful experience. Dave and Kathryn are great hosts. The accommodations are very peaceful and relaxing. Our expectations where meant. We had a very relaxing stay.
