Enjoy a stay in your attractive, ultra-romantic Bed&Breakfast “cottage” in our restored 1930s-era vacation home in Healdsburg (rated #2 in the Smithsonian Magazine's "Top 20 Towns to Visit in 2014"). We consider our B&B not as an “alternative to pricy downtown lodgings” but as a “destination in itself” for those who want to take full advantage of the delights of the Healdsburg-area Wine Country while at the same time luxuriating in the peacefulness of a secluded corner of northern Sonoma County and enjoying its recreational opportunities. Not least, it is the IDEAL place to celebrate that special anniversary or birthday!
At Heaven in the Oaks, you can relax in your own private, quiet patio (you may hear one car passing every half-hour). You can take a walk or jog through the oaks and redwoods; the path starts right outside your front door. You can swim/kayak in the Russian River (5 minutes below your patio), yet you are just a quick 7-minute (honest!) drive to Healdsburg’s historic, colorful Plaza (voted among the 10 best in the U.S.) with its world-class shopping, restaurants, and 30 winery tasting rooms.
You will enjoy:
● A cozy, light-filled sitting room-bedroom with
• gorgeous, spacious armoire • luxurious carpet and beautiful furniture • writing table and comfortable chairs • queen-size bed • private patio • two windows overlooking a wooded creek & canyon (where you may see our deer “family” placidly grazing just a few feet below your window) • electric fireplace • other amenities, including mini-fridge, coffee-maker, DVD player + DVDs, total picnic needs, iron & board, robes & slippers, & Wi-fi internet. (No air-conditioning needed: in the trees on the mountain, we’re cooler than elsewhere, but the room has a very efficient ceiling fan, too.)
● Totally private, connecting bathroom with tub & shower
● Reserved parking spot right in front
● Private front entrance
● French doors opening onto a walled, flower-filled private patio for dining and relaxing. And oh, the starry sky above (moon permitting)!
● A truly gourmet breakfast brought to you.
We are actually the ONLY TRUE B&B in the Healdsburg area, since we are the only B&B that serves you a bounteous, home-made breakfast, with a lengthy menu of delicious choices, delivered to your door at the time you request (crack of dawn or sleep in). Our guests JUST LOVE this unique offering! Why go elsewhere, where you have to bring in your breakfast supplies, or go to a café? As a guest wrote: "I didn’t have to get dressed to go out or to a common dining room. I stayed in my room, no make-up, hair in a mess and in my pj's! They brought me what I wanted, when I wanted it, hot and fresh to my door.”
No, we are not “just a place to stay in Healdsburg.”
What we offer makes Heaven on the Oaks a true destination in itself!
And we love guests who are looking for just such a place!
We have only one guest room--and it really is almost a separate, private cottage. Our objective is to give you an ultra-enjoyable stay, right from the moment you check in. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a carafe of wine (do you like red or white?) and an array of tasty local snacks.
You might want to head into downtown Healdsburg for excellent shopping and a great meal in one of our many prized restaurants (just ask for our personal list), or just lounge about on your private patio.
The next morning, roll out of bed and enjoy, whenever you want it, a sumptuous breakfast with selections you have made from an array of delicious choices, including juices, fresh fruit bowl, bagels, granola, Kathryn’s world-famous muffins, oatmeal, eggs any which way, huge breakfast burrito, etc.--as one guest put it, I felt I was a princess being pampered. Even if you’re not a princess, we want you to feel pampered.
• single or couple only • single-night stays OK
• PLEASE: no children, pets, or smoking
Ours is a quiet rural road nestled in beautiful oaks, redwoods, California bay, and buckeye trees near the bottom of Fitch Mountain. It was a riverside vacation area in the 1920s and 1930s for families from the San Francisco area; many of the houses are (like ours, 2,000 sq.ft.) converted and enlarged summer homes. Fitch Mountain is known for its interesting local history, eclectic building styles, beautiful views, secluded neighborhoods, and friendly spirit.
Step out your door, and a five-minute walk below our B&B is the Russian River, where you can launch your canoe/kayak, or just picnic (we’ll give you a “picnic pack” with everything you’ll need) and watch everyone float by. We can email you complete information on kayaking/canoeing opportunities and rental services.
Or head up our road: it becomes a popular walking and biking path right in the midst of the forest, while a path in the opposite direction takes you on an easy ascent to the top of Fitch Mountain (all 911 feet of it!), currently being developed as a nature preserve. This is paradise for walkers, hikers, joggers, and cyclists! Nearby, and stretching to the coast, are a host of city, county, and state parks of every size and description. We can email you complete information on popular walking trails--including a fascinating one to the Healdsburg Ridge Park, which you can access from your room. And we can send you full information.
We can also send you a list of local bicycle rental shops and what they each offer. Just ask.
Wine-tasting is just minutes away. You might start with Healdsburg’s winery tasting-rooms right downtown, or just head for the wineries themselves. Among the winery-filled areas, in 8 to 30 minutes you will be at famous wineries in Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Chalk Hill, and Sonoma Valley. We are truly in the heart of the Sonoma County Wine Country! In your room you’ll find full information, plus maps and free tasting passes to over 30 wineries! Kathryn owned her own winery, and Dave worked 30 years in the Napa-Sonoma wine industry (he now works in the Italian wine industry), and we will be happy to share our knowledge with you. We can email you our own winery visit recommendations, organized into 10 “admittedly-subjective” categories!
And more. Healdsburg and nearby towns boast rich programs of year-round wine events (every month!); jazz and musical events; art galleries and shows; famous running and cycling competitions (e.g., Amgen race and Grand Fondo, and the Fitch Mountain foot race); river races and festivals; craft beer shows (Sonoma County has 20 craft brewers!), Farmers Market (Saturday mornings, 9-12; Wednesdays, 4-6pm, May-Nov); and a multitude of farms that supply the best restaurants in Northern California. Healdsburg’s public golf course is 5 minutes down the road. We will provide you with lots of maps & tourism materials!
We are an hour and a half from San Francisco airport (bus service to Healdsburg) and 15 minutes from the Santa Rosa airport.
We look forward to hosting you!
Kathryn and Dave Henderson
Dave and Kathryn were wonderful hosts. The small cottage had everything we could want--including coffee all ready to go for the morning. It was a quite respite nestled among much greenery. We definitely would stay again
There is no other word for this place than charming. For those that love the "off the beaten path" this is perfect. It is right on a mountain trail that takes about an hour and half to hike, and is the perfect way to get your exercise before you start the rest of your relaxing day. For those that love exceptional homemade breakfast, that is also a great way to start the day. From the homemade granola to the fresh fruit, it was not to be beat. It is a little bit away from the plaza, but a very reliable taxi service was $13 one way ... well worth the expense in the evening so you can relax with drink over dinner. The hosts also had a wide range of vouchers for free tastings, both in the plaza and the surrounding area, which was a nice bonus.
Charming B&B. Kathryn's welcome snack and bountiful breakfast were both delicious!
We had an amazing time staying at Heaven in the Oaks! The location was great, a very short drive from downtown Healdsburg, a short walk to Russian River and easy access to a number of great hikes in the area. The room was perfect! It was clean, cozy and quiet throughout the day. Dave and Kathryn were the best hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and served up some killer breakfast in the morning. We will definitely be coming back!
Dave and Kathryn were wonderful hosts and their property is beautiful! The house is tucked away on the hillside of nearby Fitch Mountain which provides a very secluded feel. Breakfast every morning was wonderful - great variety too! - and Kathryn even whipped us up a quick dinner our first night there as we arrived a little late and were struggling with delivery pizza... =)
Room temp was never a problem (we visited in March so if anything it was chilly), bathroom was well stocked and functioned as expected. The patio was very nice as well, very conducive to reading in the morning or watching a movie on the laptop at night. We'd highly recommend the Fitch Mountain hike before you head out to start your day/weekend of wine tasting and dining.
If you're willing to head off the beaten path just a bit, this is a great spot.
Lovely place, very quiet on the mountain. Breakfast was great, who still does that? Very small and no T-V but it worked for us.
This is a special place, close to the town of Healdsburg, but nestled in a lovely wooded area next to the river. Leave yourself enough time to enjoy the beauty which is this place and the surrounding walks.. The ambiance is the same, inside and out. Cozy, peaceful, clean and welcoming. Attention to detail is everywhere from the decor, the robes, the great bath and bed. The first-class breakfast and the delicious coffee. The chance to let go and unwind. Quiet and lovely. We will see you again.
Very accommodating. Kathryn and Dave have this down to a science. Great location, food was excellent, great local advice and complimentary tasting cards.
We'd definitely come back!
Lovely spot and great host and hostess. Cozy, friendly and accommodating!! Great breakfasts too!!!
Beautiful house, great food, gracious hosts. All around a great experience. Kathryn's muffins are amazing!
