About This Listing
Lima is fantastic, fun and its food delicious. It can get overwhelming, though. Show your back to it and face the ocean in this oasis. Fifty meters above the ocean, on the 10th floor, enjoy all the modern day amenities in a fully equiped aparment.
Count 1, 2, 3 from the top on the right side of the building. Do you see the two yellow lights? This is it.
The capital of Peru has much to offer. First of all, the Limeños (and Peruvians by extension) are extraordinary hosts, the food is delicious, and music, fun and culture are never in short supply. Nevertheless, Lima is a chaotic, fast-paced and loud city. Heavy traffic, street vendors, and a ceaseless rythm envelops the city well into the night. Contrast this with the quiteness and magnificence of the vast Pacific viewed 50 meters above sea level. The building is located on a cliff; the apartment on the 10th floor. The ocean is the alpha and omega of this modern, spacious and comfortable apartment. The living room has a view, the dining room has a separate view and the master room has a view, to the Pacific. Yet, this glass-and-steel oasis is located 15 minutes away from the airport, 5 minutes away from a massive Shopping Center (Plaza San Miguel); 20 minutes away from the financial heart of the city San Isidro; and 20 minutes away from Miraflores, the touristic heart of the city.
This oasis in not just about the ocean; in here you will have strong internet WiFi, Cable Television from around the world (Cable Magico) and a landline to be connected with your loved ones and the latest events.
Surprise your family and overwhelm your guests in here; you might be able to enjoy the radiance of the sun sinking into the Pacific, one sunset after another.
p.s. I like talking. So please ask as many questions as you want, because I enjoy helping. Transportation; public transportaion; places nearby; what's safe what isn't; anything! Please, don't be shy and ask on; even for a discount!
The apartment is in a residential area; there's a police station a couple of hundred yards north of the apartment; there are several 'bodegas' (small family owned stores); a traditional marketplace; a bakery (panadería); a church, etc. Everything just a few blocks around the apartment. There is a park conveniently located just in front of the building with a Playground for the young ones, and it is consistantly guarded by 'Serenazgo' (municipal police). This park connects, through a bridge, with a walkway that runs along the ocean; ideal for jogging, running or strolling. San Miguel, however, has much more to offer. Plaza San Miguel, and the surrounding area, has virtually anything you need. You have four supermarkets, domestic and international fast-food joints, department stores, money exchange, airline tickets, bus tickets, casinos, nice restaurants and a long etcetera. And all of this is literraly five minutes away by car or a fifteen minute walk. Just onn your way there from the apartment, on Avenida Universitaria, you may find Chicharron joints (deep friend pork), which are the preferred breakfast spots for Peruvians eating out, among other restaurants (such as Chifas -Chinese food; Pasta; food from the jungle, etc.), drugstores, more bodegas, and list goes on.
Whatever it is you need, it is more than likely you will find it in San Miguel; you can always (website hidden) and/or ask me.
You can walk around the neighborhood and to Plaza San Miguel (preferably during daylight and being aware of your surroundings; follow the same precautions you would in any large urban center). You can call a cab to the apartment or walk to Avenida La Paz (back of building) to hail one there; the doorman can help you with this, too. You may use public transportaion at Avenida La Paz and/or Avenida La Marina (Plaza San Miguel); there are so many different routes, however, you must be sure of what you're doing before jumping in.
Show respect and consideration. Cleanliness and honesty are the paramount signs of respect and consideration. The balcony is very large, no need to smoke indoors. If you damage something, please report it; don't let me find out later, for obvious reasons. Enjoy the apartment in a way that it won't bother our neighbors with excessive noise, etc.
It was my first time using airbnb and Manuel (Host) and I had hard time communicating. Apparently I should have communicated using the App but I was replying via email which he was not getting it. Manuel profile shows he is in Columbus Georgia USA and the phone was US number. So he did not get that we were checking in at 7pm, not get that we wanted to check out at the same time day we were leaving. He left us the keys at front desk and showed up the day we were leaving at 12 noon and asked us to check out as its per airbnb rules. If we wanted to check out at 7pm then we had to pay $20 late check out fee. He asked us to leave the $20 at the table as well as the keys when we leave. We felt uncomfortable with arrangement since he didn't look the same as a profile picture. We left the money and keys with the doorman when we left at 6pm. We had received several calls when in the apartment some for him and some wrong number, if Manuel was in town he should have called us to check if we were ok, all this time we assumed that he was in USA and not in Peru.
Manuel was very welcoming and eager to share insight on Lima and Peru in general. The condo is right off the main beach loop, which made it easy to traverse town. The sunsets from the condo are simply amazing. Manuel makes sure to answer every question you have so that you feel at home, away from home.
Manuel is great. I had a last minute trip to Lima. He arranged for the apartment to be ready for me on very short notice. The place is beautiful, clean, with a great ocean view. The proximity to a large grocery store and the mall make staying here a pleasure. Doorman is very friendly and welcoming too, and it is a short cab ride into Miraflores.
Highly recommended. Thanks, Manuel!!
The place was in a nice area with a little park in the front for a light workout in the morning. The view from the tenth floor was majestic. The place is also very close to a mall (a mile away. You can take a taxi there for ten soles) where you can find all the American retail stores. The price are pretty much the same in US dollar so don't expect to get a cheaper deal for American brand name products. The place is safe (security 24/7). The place looked exactly like in the pictures but a little bit dusty. Showers were awesome and hot water was actually hot. The host was very nice and allowed us to stay over check out time because our flight left late at night.
Manuel went way, way out of his way to accommodate my last minute request for a place to stay in Lima. His place is an incredible value. Spotlessly clean, this space is on the tenth floor of a new building. The view alone is worth the very reasonable price Manuel charges. My super hot Peruvian princess girlfriend and I really felt comfortable in the apartment. She said, "Me siento como que estoy en casa." I feel like I am home.
The apartment is close to shopping, restaurants, bars, and a great grocery store. Conveniently located near the airport but also a short cab ride to downtown Lima.
Book it; It is great.
About the Host, Manuel
I am a born-and-raised-in-Peru Peruvian American. I live in Columbus, GA and I have family in Peru. My aunt Ana lives in the next building over, actually. I have a passion for traveling and meeting different cultures and practice new languages. My dream is to work for the foreign service.... Anywhere!
I am truly blessed with this beautiful apartment, and I happy to share it with you all. I am from Callao, which is very close to San Miguel (next district over). It is a sensational place to rest, and a privileged one too! Lima can be engulfing, but having this oasis where to rest, and treat guests and just be "away" from it all, is a priceless luxury. Oh! Not to mention I get to see the sun descending into the ocean, coloring the sky and the clouds, bidding farewell to the day and setting the most excellent introduction to the night, rather often
I have traveled rather extensively, South America, Central america, North America, Europe and the Middle East. Of all these places, in America I must remark: La Antigua Guatemala (gorgeous place with its volcano and so lush); Valparaiso (where I am returning shortly), the hill and the colorful houses facing the Pacific, mixes with the most handsome people ever, a true jewel. Rio de Janeiro; even before landing you know you're down for something spectacular. The geography of the city is unique, the ever presence of the Corcovado Christ so high up in the mountain (yeah that high), and the resemblance to Lima (safe people are much more expressive and voloptuous -if that's even possible), make this a fascinating place to be; the sexiest people, ever. New York, well it is the indisputable captial of the World and there are countless reasons to it.
Lima is of course my favorite city, but I am biased, naturally. I like the food, the ocean, I like the fact that it is a big city and I can find almost anything I want. But what I like the most about Lima is metaphysic. It is more noticeable when I am alone, walking in the drizzle or looking out the window; it is the feeling of being home, where I belong. It manifest itself when talking to a stranger: the lady who tends a store in a random corner; the cool taxi driver relating his flirtations and conquests with women; or the old lady selling religious stuff outside church. For the untrained eye, Lima can be an unattractive, even ugly place. To me Lima just fits.
