Beautiful single steps to Downtown

The Space

Hi Folks! Welcome to the “Osmyn Parker House”!
I have lovingly restored this old 1887 Queen Anne and it has been featured in numerous newspaper articles as well as being the center piece for several annual Historic Denver house tours. Being the sole resident of this grand old house, only 9 blocks from the center of the city, I love sharing it with interesting travelers!!!
This beautiful home lies in the the heart of the San Rafael Historic district, one of Denver's greatest historic neighborhoods close to downtown, City Park, 17th Avenue Restaurant Row and so much more. Relax outside on our beautiful and peaceful back patio or jump on a bike (the Denver B-Cycle station is only two blocks away!) and tour around Denver. You are welcome to use the kitchen, living and dining as well.
While things are very "walkable", there is also a bus stop just across the street or a cab ride to the convention center (center of downtown) is only $6-8 in inclement weather.
Since we are opening up our home and our lives to you we would greatly appreciate it if you would make sure that your profile is filled out before you submit a request.
Cheers,
Jim

  • Jim was a great host! The house was beautiful and I loved hearing the story about how he made it into such a great home. I would recommend staying with Jim. He was incredibly welcoming.

  • Jim was a great host. He was super friendly and helped out in every way possible.
The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was an easy 20-25 minute walk to the convention center through downtown. Definitely recommend a stay if you are in Denver.

  • You simply could not ask for a better place to spend your time. The house is truly spectacular, wonderfully redone. It is worth staying here just to see and experience the house. The location is perfect. Quiet, but with good access to everything. I stayed in the small single's room, and it was great. Wonderful bed that all but guarantees a wonderful night's sleep. There is a larger room with a queen bed; perfect for a couple, or someone wanting just a bit more space.

Your host, Jim, just completely defines what a host should be. Accommodating, knowledgeable, and plain out friendly.

I cannot say enough good things about Jim and his wonderful home.

  • The stay was for my daughter, a college student, who needed something short term in order to find permanent housing. James was the perfect host. She love, love, loved the house which she said was absolutely beautiful and enjoyed talking with James a lot. James greeted her the night she drove into town with open arms and made her feel like she had a friend. Hopefully we've made a permanent friend. He's a great guy! Thanks for being so accommodating.

  • James is the most gracious and welcoming host of all. His home is beautiful and beautifully situated in the heart of Denver. The comfortable sunlit rooms are a perfect respite after a busy day in town. You will love staying here and meeting James.

  • This is the Place ! I stayed two nights and will be back. The beautiful Queen Anne "mansion" is perfectly suited for a pleasant stay. But even more important was that James made me feel "at home"....let me rephrase that....."at home if my home was like a vacation". He is conscious of your every need, has great advice and even printed out a map and instructions to everything anyone would need- great restaurants, taxis, museums etc. This piece was way more useful and insightful to me than my iphone-yelp, tripadvisor or any social media.
If you are on a business trip, staying at his home will give you the peace you need to make it feel like a vacation and if you are on vacation....you can't do better ! Also, it was so great to sit down over coffee and have a chat with someone who has a very grounded, worldy and educated view about the world...insightful. At the same time you have all of the solitary time you would like to just wind down. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Denver....not even the Brown Palace.

  • James' home is charming, and the room and adjoining bathroom were clean and very comfortable. He was very welcoming and helpful. The location of the home is very convenient to downtown Denver, and many sites, good restaurants and coffee shops are within walking distance. Great place to stay!

  • I was in town attending the Middle East Studies Association conference, and as soon as Jim heard this we were into a deep conversation. He knew a lot (as I suspect he does about a wide range of subjects), and he asked insightful questions. The next day he generously drove me downtown to the conference. The house is a labor of love - he told me about how he had renovated it from practically unlivable. Jim, it turns out, has been instrumental in the revival of the whole neighborhood. The room was extremely comfortable and the walk to downtown was pleasant.

  • A very comfortable bed, in a cozy room, in a lovely house, with a kind host. What more could you want, especially for the cost? Closet space for hanging clothes was a nice plus. A great room for a single traveler.

About
Hi folks, I am an early adopter of "airbnb". I have not used it for travel as much as I would like but have been hosting and enjoying it since summer, 2011. My active life style includes being a ski instructor in Vail, tennis, sailing when I make the time, motorcycle travel (having done of lot of solo stuff in Mexico), etc. Intellectually curious and I like keeping up with global happenings. Travel style? Casual, low maintenance and self sufficient, enjoy the local color, been half way around the planet. Have owned my own company for over three decades being involved in urban redevelopment and historic restoration. Cheers!
