This home is located outside of the city center in a very nice residential area not far from the largest shopping center "The Mall Del Rio". The home is of Ecuadorian architecture which appears quite Mediterranean. The rooms are large with expansive closet space and all have private baths, large windows with views and a balcony. The kitchen is very large and is available to all patrons who wish to use this facility. The gardens are small but large enough to socialize with other patrons or just to relax and enjoy the comfort and beauty of the area.
This neighborhood is quiet and away from the noise pollution of the hectic city. Not far from the house is the Yanuncay River, one of the four major rivers that run through Cuenca. Along the park are walkways and areas to just sit and appreciate the beautiful nature of Ecuador.
There are restaurants, banks, pastry shops and good shopping in this area. If you want to go to the city center it is a 10 minute taxi ride with a cost of just $2.50 USD. The bus system has 4 lines that run just two blocks from the house. A short distance to walk and save your money at a cost of only .25 cents per ride.
Smoking isn't allowed inside the house. Smoking is permitted on your private balcony or outside in the gardens.
- Use of kitchen is permitted. All utensils, stove and counters must be cleaned afterward.
- All doors must be locked when entering and leaving the premises.
- Respect the personal items of the other guests.
- Ask things please do not remove, seize or take without permission.
The house and rooms were spacious and comfortable. Sofia's family was pleasant.
My son and I stayed here for a week. The house is very beautiful just like the pictures and very secure. Sofia and her family are great hosts. The room was spacious, there was plenty of hot water, and the WiFi worked well. The house is in a quiet neighborhood far from the bus fumes of the downtown. Nearby are several small restaurants and food stores, a very good bakery, and a park. Taxi rides to the center of town cost about two dollars. Taxis are easy to find at Parque Iberia just two short blocks away. The Mall del Rio is a ten minute walk or very short taxi ride. I highly recommend this house for anyone who doesn't want to be in the downtown.
This home is massive and gorgeous. I almost never heard any other guests and actually thought the family must live in a separate part of the house because I almost never heard Sofie and the sweet little twin boys until I made it a point to find them my last ( of 6) nights there. Hendry was most gracious in helping me get my bearings in the neighborhood and walked with me a few blocks to point out the landmarks so I could find my way back after walking to Central Cuenca which I did every day. Easy walk to Mall de Rio and the Supermercado.
We stayed at Sofia's house for one night while travelling from Banos to Vilcabamba. Very nice place and Sofia helped us with switching from a rental car to a bus.
Sofia and her husband were awesome. The experience was great, we are looking forward to visit them again, Soodie and Mike
While I was either cooped up in the room working or out and about, the little time that I conversed with Sofia and Henry they were both very friendly. The room was very comfortable and clean, with plenty of blankets to keep you warm. The house was located just a $1.50 taxi ride to Calle Larga which was perfect for me. There's a laundry place 5 minute walking distance from the house which washes and dries your clothes within 2 hours which was super convenient.
We were a little disappointed in the house, but Sofia and her mother were very nice. The house was in need of repair in places and a good cleaning (bathtubs, floors). We also had to hunt around for more toilet paper and ask lots of questions via email while in the house (trick with the hot water, wifi password), and hoped that Sofia would have just provided the info upon arrival. The biggest challenge was the car. There was room for three cars, but one behind the other. We had to wait until the husband came home late at night so we could be 2nd in line because he needed to park behind us. He left early in the morning, but we waited and waited for someone else to wake up so they could let us out of the garage. We ended up taking a taxi most of the time. Like I said, Sofia and her mom were very nice and we enjoyed the short conversations we had with them. We didn't see them often. We probably won't stay there again because of the parking situation, the repairs, and the rooster that crowed ALL DAY AND NIGHT.
Thanks for your recommendation.
We hope that some day in Cuenca it can be do something with roosters it is a general problem, unfortunately this problem I can not control
If I had known you were coming by car would have made appropriate arrangements to avoid any inconvenience that has caused you to have a free garage, has not bothered me to receive with your dog with not additional charge.
All instructions I give my guests when they arrive at the house, unfortunately you not arrive at the the specified time and you finally appeared four hours later, I had not enough time to explain the details of the shower and give you the keys of the garage if I knew who brought a car.
But thank you again for these suggestions because it have help us to give a better serve with our next guest.
