About This Listing
A guest room dedicated to the famous racehorse named Seabiscuit. Our most economical room, it faces the front corrals and the eastern hills of our ranch and is decorated with racehorse memorabilia.
Seabiscuit inspired millions of people during the Great Depression as an unlikely champion and a symbol of hope.
The spirit of the thoroughbred lives on at RustRidge Ranch where you can learn about Seabiscuit and all of the great racehorses while you stay at our thoroughbred ranch and winery.
Your bedroom is decorated with Seabiscuit memorabilia and looks out at the ranch, the horses and the hills. If you always wanted to be around horses but never had the opportunity, or if you miss being around horses, this is horse heaven.
We are located in a remote part of Napa Valley. It is very quiet and peaceful. We have fourteen cats, three dogs and eighteen horses. While there are many things you can do while in the area, we recommend that you enjoy what we have to offer on the ranch: wine & horses
Your room is cosy and is part of a big ranch house. The private bathroom with shower is detached from the room but right across from it on a private hallway. We serve breakfast in the morning and offer wine in the evenings. Depending on the time of year, you can help do chores on the ranch, either with the horses, at the winery or out in the vineyard.
Otherwise you can just unwind and enjoy this special place where cell phones don't work and there are no televisions.
Please note: We raise racehorses not riding horses, we are not a public stable.
Breakfast, wine tasting, hiking, visiting with the ranch animals.
Interaction with Guests
Depends on the guest, we live and work on the ranch.
This is a small room and is ideal for a single person or a couple. It will not accommodate small children. Check-in time is between 4-6 pm. Check-out is at 11 am. You may bring your own food for lunch or dinner. Other guests may be staying in the house with you so we ask each guest to be respectful of the other guests peace and quiet.
Our stay at Susan's bed and breakfast was very pleasant. She greeted us with wine and appetizers and settled us in our room. The winery is further away from St. Helena downtown, so the previous recommendations of buying some lunch/dinner for the stay were very helpful. We brought some food from V. Sattui and Delucca and settled in for the weekend. The vineyard was beautiful, we took some walks around the property and also saw the horses. Breakfast was nice and we liked the abundant spots for sitting down and reading a book (indoors by the fireplace, outdoor on the porch next to the Labs!). Wi-fi was a little slow so bring books! Overall a nice and quiet stay, exactly what we were looking for.
The host was THE BEST. I felt like I never wanted to leave. We were greeted by the beautiful dogs in the driveway, and wine and cheese in the house. The kitchen is spectacular, and we had full access to use whatever we needed.
The ranch is a peaceful retreat on a beautiful, spacious property, with lots of different areas to sit and relax. They have an organic garden and a delicious winery.
The owners were out of town, but their friends who managed it that weekend were so hospitable. They were super helpful with recommendations of taxis, restaurants, etc. Breakfast was delicious and they cleaned up our room nicely each day. Don't miss the horses and the wine tasting room in the back!
My stay at the Rustridge BnB was the perfect escape from the city. We were provided a beautiful, big breakfast each morning and Susan and Tim were sure to make sure all our needs were met. The property is so beautiful! During my hike up one of the big hills on the property, Susan and Tim's three energetic and sweet labs followed me up and were the best of company. On my way down the hill I could see the horses galloping down the hill alongside me--- Magical!
This Air BnB is perfect for those looking for an idyllic outdoor adventure in Napa. It is also close enough to downtown St. Helena and the other excellent wineries and restaurants to be convenient.
Fantastic place, superior wine, Susan and Jim are kind and it was a pleasure to talk to them about horses, wine and Napa-lifestyle. We recommend this oasis, out from the crowd, but, at the same time, the perfect basis to visit St. Helena, Calistoga and Napa.
The RustRidge B&B is truly a unique spot in the CA wine country. We had a great time during our short stay and very much anticipate returning as soon as we can. You can craft your stay around many different interests: great wine at the ranch and in the surrounding area, hiking and exploring the Chiles Valley with the ranch as base camp, or a comfy place to stay while vising Napa.
Tucked away and nowhere near the beaten tourists tracks this B&B offers offers a truly authentic and peaceful Napa-experience! The hosts were super nice and thoughtful and had lots of unique stories to tell and the breakfast was one of the best I had in California - with fresh figs straight out of their garden!
Had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Susan's ranch the night before a triathlon at Lake Berryessa. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an escape -- this place is definitely off the grid! The location is beautiful and if you're an animal lover, you'll really enjoy yourself -- we were greeted by Susan's very friendly yellow labs and spent time with the many cats that like to hang out on the front porch of the guest house. Also be sure to take advantage of the gorgeous, enormous kitchen -- great place to prepare a meal. Thank you to Susan for her hospitality and for sharing her beautiful space!

About the Host, Susan
Our secluded property, once a large thoroughbred horse and black angus ranch, was purchased by my family in 1972. Now it reflects my husband's and my two passions: wine and horses. We continue to breed and race thoroughbreds and each spring; just about the time new buds form on the grape vines, new foals are born.
The guesthouse is a rambling ranch style home with racing memorabilia, antiques, a large commercial style kitchen, wonderful views, decks, vegetable garden and pool area. We have been hosting guests here for 24 years. We have met wonderful people who have become great friends. Most people who stay here have an adventuresome spirit. They are risk takers and like to meet new people. Your experience here will not be ordinary, we would venture to say it will be extraordinary and memorable.
The grapes were first planted in the mid 70's. We grow Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. The winery was founded by my brothers Stan and Grant in 1985. It is housed in a renovated hay storage barn. We took over the reins of the operations in 1990. I am the winemaker and Jim is the vineyard manager and horseman. Helping us handcraft the estate-bottled wines produced by RustRidge is distinguished winemaker Kent Rosenblum aka Dr. Zin. Vines are organically grown and dry farmed, we have some of the oldest vines in Napa Valley!
Jim and I along with our three dogs, fourteen cats and seventeen horses invite you to experience our unique lifestyle, enjoy great wines and unwind in our idyllic environment.
