About This Listing
Want to get away from it all right in the middle of Los Angeles? Our little cottage lies at the end of a quiet side street, surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping, while still affording easy access to all the shopping, dining, and culture your heart desires. Not only that, but the place has some real character; local historical records suggest that the main property, built in the 1920’s, was originally a brothel!
A word of warning, especially for those new to the LA area: you will definitely need a car if you want to experience all the area has to offer. And there’s a lot to enjoy! The cottage is located right off the famous (infamous?) Sunset Boulevard, roughly 3 miles from UCLA, 5 miles from Rodeo Drive, 10 miles from Santa Monica (the beach!), 13 miles from Hollywood (Sunset Strip), and 20 miles from Pasadena or Downtown. There is one designated parking space and usually ample street parking. Should you want to remain a homebody, you’ll find almost anything you might need three minutes up the hill in the shops and restaurants at The Glen Center; many of them deliver.
The bedroom has French doors that open onto a patio and a hillside of trees. The bedroom has a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, a walk-in closet, and two cozy bathrobes.
The cheerful living room looks out on its own deck and has a wood-burning fireplace with an evening’s supply of logs. The couch converts to a full-size bed. The TV comes with many channels and complimentary Netflix streaming. There is also a DVD/CD player and a music player/charging dock for your iPod or iPhone.
The bathroom has a lighted make up mirror, hair dryer, soap and shampoo, and plenty of soft, cushy towels.
The bright, fully equipped kitchen has a stove, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, toaster, coffee pot, water kettle, coffee grinder, and a refrigerator with icemaker, along with everything else you might expect, including some of the basics (sugar, paper towels, salt and pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, tea and coffee).
There is a washer and dryer available, and laundry detergent is supplied. You will need quarters to operate the machines.
No smoking indoors. Smoking allowed on deck or patio. Pets are welcome, but please no aggressive or yappy dogs. The neighbors are all quiet folks, writers and artists. That's why they love it here! Please no loud music, wild parties, etc.
The Hillside Cottage was perfectly represented in the pictures shown. It was secluded, quiet, and extremely charming. Getting the keys was a breeze and the cottage provided complete privacy, in fact I never saw any other neighboring tenants or the owner all weekend. Ben was so thoughtful as he left flowers, a hand written note, and a bottle of wine! He also left a binder with maps, local food menus, and history of the cottage. The cottage was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable with tons of pillows. The bathroom came stocked with multiple sets of towels and washcloths as well as face wash, shampoo, and conditioner. My only complaint is that there was no air conditioning, which probably was an oversight on my end for assuming there would be. There were a ton of windows and we were only there in the evenings so that allowed for a nice breeze, however during the day it was rather oppressive and the only fan in the cottage did not work. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I will defiantly be making a return visit as my sister lives right down the street, so convenient!
The cottage was wonderful and I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a very relaxing yet convenient getaway in L.A. The pictures actually do not do it justice. It is halfway between Sunset and Mulholland so it is equally easy to go the Valley or anywhere on the Westside. It is more spacious than the "typical" cottage and has very distinct sleeping, living and eating areas. Ben was a great host...extremely accomodating and responsive.
great place to stay, Ben is very polite and helpful! we really enjoyed our days in Los Angeles!!
What an amazing cottage! Located perfectly to all of LA, the cottage offers such peace & quiet, it is hard to believe where you actually are staying. The cottage was much more than the words describe. Ben was such a gracious host and he made it very easy to extend my stay! Highly recommend to business travelers as it is much nicer than any of the hotels in the surrounding area. I look forward to staying here much more.
This is the sweetest little cottage you can imagine. Located in a quiet neighbourhood . We really liked it! Our arrival was delayed by two days but that was not a problem for Ben, everything was exactly where he told us. I would definately choose this cottage again.
Ben always communicated well prior to our visit and was there when we checked in as well. His small touches were very appreciated: flowers, a bottle of wine, coffee, etcetera. When any questions or issues arose he was always quick to come up with a solution. Both Ben and the homeowner were very warm and helpful. And the house itself accommodated myself, my two teen daughters and 4 year old son quite well. The decor is terrific and we couldn't have asked for a more secure, private, tucked-away bungalow.
About the Host, Ben
I'm Ben, born and raised in LA (shocking, I know). I am a writer, voracious reader, lover of fashion, art, architecture, and design. Though definitely an urban type, I do feel the call of the outdoors as well! I manage Hillside Cottage on behalf of the owner, and I'm here to guide you through the process of renting from start to finish. So don't hesitate to ask me any questions you might have!
