The Space

Want to get away from it all right in the middle of Los Angeles? Our little cottage lies at the end of a quiet side street, surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping, while still affording easy access to all the shopping, dining, and culture your heart desires. Not only that, but the place has some real character; local historical records suggest that the main property, built in the 1920’s, was originally a brothel!

A word of warning, especially for those new to the LA area: you will definitely need a car if you want to experience all the area has to offer. And there’s a lot to enjoy! The cottage is located right off the famous (infamous?) Sunset Boulevard, roughly 3 miles from UCLA, 5 miles from Rodeo Drive, 10 miles from Santa Monica (the beach!), 13 miles from Hollywood (Sunset Strip), and 20 miles from Pasadena or Downtown. There is one designated parking space and usually ample street parking. Should you want to remain a homebody, you’ll find almost anything you might need three minutes up the hill in the shops and restaurants at The Glen Center; many of them deliver.

The bedroom has French doors that open onto a patio and a hillside of trees. The bedroom has a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, a walk-in closet, and two cozy bathrobes.

The cheerful living room looks out on its own deck and has a wood-burning fireplace with an evening’s supply of logs. The couch converts to a full-size bed. The TV comes with many channels and complimentary Netflix streaming. There is (email hidden) player and a music player/charging dock for your iPod or iPhone.

The bathroom has a lighted make up mirror, hair dryer, soap and shampoo, and plenty of soft, cushy towels.

The bright, fully equipped kitchen has a stove, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, toaster, coffee pot, water kettle, coffee grinder, and a refrigerator with icemaker, along with everything else you might expect, including some of the basics (sugar, paper towels, salt and pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, tea and coffee).

There is a washer and dryer available, and laundry detergent is supplied. You will need quarters to operate the machines.

  • The hillside cottage is fantastic. Great location handy to UCLA except at rush hour. Much better than a hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

  • Ben bends over backwards to accomodate me as a guest...with back-to-back bookings it is not always possible for my to check-in early but he got me in around noon. Ben has a 6th sense for the right thing to do. I hope I can stay here again my next trip to LA!

  • A delightful cottage set in the hills at the end of a street. The cottage was immaculately clean and had every comfort a person could require. Upon our arrival we were met with flowers and cookies on the table. Every text to Ben was met with an immediate response. I would definitely recommend this place and will return on my next LA visit.

  • Really loved staying in Beverly Glen for the week of Christmas.

The cottage is clean and extremely comfortable. Having a patio out front gives a view of the glen and the many birds that inhabit it. The patio out the bedroom gives a cozy setting to transition from inside to outside.

Plenty of room to stretch out on a great bed. A very large closet as well. Generous clean bath with plenty of fluffy towels and nice amenities.

Kitchen has everything you could need for a stay that involves cooking meals. Several restaurants are uphill in the Glen.

Just a great stay, book it.

  • The cottage was in great condition and nice and clean.
The keys were waiting for us and fresh flowers on the table.
Lovely quiet spot but easy to get back to Beverly Hills although watch the traffic, very busy at peak times, but were isn't.
Laundry downstairs and everything you need in the cottage.
I highly recommend this place for a stay

  • I had a wonderful stay at the Hillside Cottage. I came for 1 week and extended 5 more! The cottage is a quiet, well-appointed freestanding little guest house behind a 1920s "mansion of sorts" (apparently a brothel at one time) (now remade into a 3 unit apartment building) in a peaceful, upscaled, and character-full (many artistic, unique homes) Beverly Glen neighborhood. The cottage is perfect for anyone who wants a close-to-nature experience within short driving distance of many LA city activities. The cottage backs right up to the mountainside with lovely rock and mountain views from the bedroom and dining windows. The digital cable is wonderful (including premium channels). There is fast wi-fi (exclusive to this unit only), a 5 star hotel-quality bathroom, walk-in closet, and a comfortable bed. I found the kitchen table to be a great place to work and write. There are some occasional street sounds from Beverly Glen Blvd. (the main road up the canyon) on one side of the cottage if windows are open, but I am very sensitive to noise and even I didn't mind it (almost imperceptible if windows closed). The cottage is not right on Beverly Glen--it's on a parallel very quiet (and safe) residential street. Well-stocked kitchen, use of shared laundry (always available when I wanted it), nice outdoor patio spaces. I loved my stay. Consider going to the LA Arboretum if you like beautiful gardens. I went twice. It was the highlight of my trip. Ben is a kind, responsive host.

  • My experience at the cottage was perfect despite a couple of small hick-ups outside the owner control and they were quickly addressed. The location was just what I was looking for, accessible to the city but feels like woods. The cottage was well designed and full of amenities. Would absolutly stay here again!

I'm Ben, born and raised in LA (shocking, I know). I am a writer, voracious reader, lover of fashion, art, architecture, and design. Though definitely an urban type, I do feel the call of the outdoors as well! I manage Hillside Cottage on behalf of the owner, and I'm here to guide you through the process of renting from start to finish. So don't hesitate to ask me any questions you might have!
