About this listing

The space

Want to get away from it all right in the middle of Los Angeles? Our little cottage lies at the end of a quiet side street, surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping, while still affording easy access to all the shopping, dining, and culture your heart desires. Not only that, but the place has some real character; local historical records suggest that the main property, built in the 1920’s, was originally a brothel!

A word of warning, especially for those new to the LA area: you will definitely need a car if you want to experience all the area has to offer. And there’s a lot to enjoy! The cottage is located right off the famous (infamous?) Sunset Boulevard, roughly 3 miles from UCLA, 5 miles from Rodeo Drive, 10 miles from Santa Monica (the beach!), 13 miles from Hollywood (Sunset Strip), and 20 miles from Pasadena or Downtown. There is one designated parking space and usually ample street parking. Should you want to remain a homebody, you’ll find almost anything you might need three minutes up the hill in the shops and restaurants at The Glen Center; many of them deliver.

The bedroom has French doors that open onto a patio and a hillside of trees. The bedroom has a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, a walk-in closet, and two cozy bathrobes.

The cheerful living room looks out on its own deck and has a wood-burning fireplace with an evening’s supply of logs. The couch converts to a full-size bed. The TV comes with many channels and complimentary Netflix streaming. There is also a DVD/CD player and a music player/charging dock for your iPod or iPhone.

The bathroom has a lighted make up mirror, hair dryer, soap and shampoo, and plenty of soft, cushy towels.

The bright, fully equipped kitchen has a stove, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, toaster, coffee pot, water kettle, coffee grinder, and a refrigerator with icemaker, along with everything else you might expect, including some of the basics (sugar, paper towels, salt and pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, tea and coffee).

There is a washer and dryer available, and laundry detergent is supplied. You will need quarters to operate the machines.

The house was all it was described as and more. Rose has been professional, thorough and thoughtful, making sure I had phone numbers for anyone I might need to contact. She has been quick to address minor issues that have come up and generally made me feel right at home.

We had the most lovely month and a half long stay at Rose's Hillside Cottage while we were in escrow on our new house. Rose was a great communicator throughout the process - she even checked in with me a few times during our stay to make sure everything was going well. She brought us fresh towels and sheets a few weeks in too! We loved this location and it was super convenient to get to most parts of LA within 20-30 min. The space is a cozy retreat from the hustle of LA. The only downside is that cell reception isn't great (but that can easily be remedied once you connect to wifi) and the place can get a little hot in the summer months. Overall, it was a great fit for us and we'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy getaway in LA!

This place is a beautiful little gem in a gorgeous, quiet neighborhood. Communication with Rosie was easy & efficient. The cottage is spacious & has multiple outdoor spaces to relax & listen to the birds sing. As stated in the description, there was no A/C but we really didn't need it b/c of the fans & cross breeze. It was the perfect getaway. Thanks, Rosie!

The Hillside cottage is a wonderful alternative to hotels, especially for business travelers like me. The cottage location is convenient to everything by car. The cottage is bright and with tons of windows, cool / fresh air all day. Several restaurants deliver, allowing outdoor dining on the balcony or patio. Rose is a great host with quick response. I look forward to my next stay in the coming months!

Great communication from Rose and the cottage is quite lovely and very clean. Would have been perfect, had there not been a 100 degree heatwave in LA! The first two nights were great when the weather was mild. Loved sitting outside on the balcony overlooking trees and making a nice meal in the kitchen, which is very well stocked. The bed is also very comfortable. Wifi and TV were great and loved all the books. Then the heatwave hit and the house has no air conditioning. Fans were no help. It gets stifling hot in that cottage due to skylights and many windows. I ended up leaving early because of this and Rose was very understanding. A few window AC units would solve this problem and make for a much more comfortable visit. I'd for sure stay again if they are installed...or I'll be back in cooler weather:-)
