Astoria is a lively, safe neighborhood filled with people from all over the world. In fact National Geographic featured Astoria for its diversity in " THE HUMAN FAMILY TREE".
You can expect a safe and secure stay in this conveniently located apartment. The apartment really reflects the neighborhood as one of NYC's hidden gems.
The neighborhood consists of transplants from every where in the world the majority of which are studying and working in film & dance. This might be because of the three major film studios and the Museum of Moving Image located in Astoria.
Also the ten minute ride into the Manhattan does not hurt. We are in one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the world with people mostly from Greece, Italy, the Balkan's, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Mexico. They all have opened their own authentic restaurants in the neighborhood.
Steinway street is a major shopping district with national stores such as STARBUCKS, VICTORIA SECRETS, GAP, GAP KIDS, KINKOS and many others which reside between Broadway and 30th Avenue.
-Subway Access is a short two blocks away (M, R,) at the Steinway station and a ten minute stroll to the Broadway Station (N & Q).
Any of these trains are just a 10 minute ride into the Lexington Avenue and 59th Street stop in Manhattan (leaves you on the corner by the world famous Bloomingdales) and 15 minutes to Times Square. The subway runs all day and night (every 5-7 minutes) and is safe to ride all the time.
In few minutes you can be in Times Square or on Madison/Fifth Avenues window shopping, checking out New York's world famous museums or taking a walk in Central Park, going to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center or seeing a Broadway show or just wandering the streets of Manhattan. We have everything you look for in a great neighborhood...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
The subway is just 3 blocks away from the apartment! A 15 minute ride to Manhattan - Times Square !
Please respect our clean apartment and do not smoke. We only allow a maximum of 2 guests at a time due to the small size of the apartment. Please put everything back the way you found it.
Photo IDs - State identifications/drivers license or Passports required. We will need to have a picture identification of you for our records.
The listing was accurate, clear and concise. It is in a good neighborhood near Steinway St where there's 24hr RiteAid to get water, toiletries, etc. Not too far from Manhattan. Marilena (Yiota's cousin and the person in charge) was very responsive to all my questions. The host is flexible and try to accommodate my schedule (early check-in) since they don't have any guests before I check in.
I would recommend Yiota's place to anyone visiting NYC.
Yiota's cousin Marilena was very gracious in meeting my girlfriend and I at the apartment despite a few transit delays. We were pleased to find everything clean and as described in the ad - it really is a great find in an excellent part of Queens! Marilena was always available to contact and made the whole stay really easy.
Needing a place to crash more than anything, we frequented many of the local spots, but also enjoyed the short train ride into Manhattan for more tourist-y type things. Highly recommended location and apartment.
The district is really interesting. For a nth experience of New York, it has been by far our preferred. We are far from the non-essentials which we can cross in other districts of this city.
It is a very alive multi-ethnic district. There are all that is needed for people of passage near the room.
About it, there are positive points: closeness of grocer's shops, stores, subway... There is enough space for 2 adults. Outing of the bare minimum to eat. No cooking, a refrigerator, a microwave. You need to go out for eating but it's a part of the plan..
The place should de be restored, there's a few negative aspects of state. But it is in good average. Rate of good value for money : 3,5/5.
The apartment is small, but has everything you need. We were disappointed there was no kitchen, but it is written in the description though. The bathroom is very small too, but is enough. I would recommend this place if you stay less than one week. We stayed for more than 10, and we felt that it became too small for us after that time.
We never met Yiota, but we met her cousin and her uncle (who is the landlord) and both were very nice and helpful. We had one problem (outlets weren't working) and the problem was immediately dealt with.
The best thing about this place is definitely the location ! Queens is a great place to stay and this apartment is PERFECTLY located! The train lines take you almost everywhere you want (from Queens to Manhattan and Brooklyn).
So if you want to explore New York and don't feel like staying much inside, this is the place.
You do hear the train from the apartment, but you get used to it and it never kept me from sleeping.
We were surprised and disappointed by the place at first, but remember this is no hotel. After all, the apartment was good for the price and we appreciated staying there. Also, there are a lot of facilities nearby and delicious restaurants with kitchens from all around the world !
About the Host, Yiota
I was born and raised in the heart of Astoria. It was a great experience growing up in Astoria. The area has really grown and become much more ethnically diverse over the years, but it never loses its charm and small town feel.
THE FELLA IN THE PICTURE IS MY UNCLE!
My husband and I are recently married and spend much of our time hanging out with friends and family in Astoria. We have a very large family and lots of friends in Astoria who are all very helpful in any venture we pursue. Thanks to family of all ages, we know the best nooks and crannies the neighborhood has to offer.
My husband and I operate this AirBNB apartment together. We look forward to providing you with an authentic New York experience.
