The Space

i have a small, clean room i am renting in a busy, safe neighborhood, right off manhattan's main street (broadway) and in the back of the building, so it's quiet in the apartment.

i'm located between 2 big avenues with public transportation. subway is across the street, on broadway as well as buses, which also run up and down amsterdam(both directions). 24 hr food, liquor stores, laundry, hardware, restaurants, t-mobile(for sim cards), etc. all right here. 30min travel time by subway to east village (8st N,R,W trains) 15 minutes to times square 5-10 minutes to central park.

located on the 1st floor of building.

room has a twin size loft bed, and a small futon beneath it. rent alone and use futon as couch or bed, or sleeps 2.

* no pets please

* be prepared to pay $35 in case you lose the keys.

* this a cheap way to visit manhattan, but it is a private residence; you are responsible for cleaning up after yourself, or chip in for housecleaning services. (very important, I've had horrible luck with slobs, I am not a slob.)

* this may be redundant, but i have had problems with guests making a mess in the kitchen and bathroom and NOT cleaning up after themselves. THIS IS NOT A HOTEL, you are a guest in my home, please CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. i can offer some concierge type services, but if you don't want to clean up after yourself, go book your stay at a hotel and pay extra for it. please be clean and respectful in my home as i will show you respect and hospitality and provide you with a clean place to live, cook, and sleep.

Hi, are xx-xx dates available?

check the calendar, if there's availability, feel free to make a booking.

Where are you located??

ugh! check the tab on this listing that says "maps", that will show you where i live, and where you will be located in relation to wherever you would like to visit.

How far away are you from X?

again, look at the "maps" tab on this listing. do you know the address? i have mentioned in the listing description above how far the travel time is from my place to other parts of town. but you can always check with the nyc public transit "mta trip planner" (search for it online as i cannot post links here, sorry) to see how long it will take to get from the address in question to the 137 st/city college stop.

can i use the kitchen??

as i mentioned in this listing's description, YES

does your place have a bathroom??

seriously??? no, i go outside in the alleyway to wash & relieve myself, even in the winter, when it's freezing cold out. this is nyc after all, many of us are still without indoor plumbing.

do i get keys?

is it a private bedroom?

is there a curfew?

  • Sally was wonderful, learned a lot just from talking to her in the mornings. Seemed to be a lot of families in the neighborhood, which was very pleasant. Nice to see groups of people chilling out on the sidewalk in their lawn chairs just having a grand ol' time. It should be noted that while the picture for the room shows a bunk bed, the room we were given had only one double bed, which was unfortunate, but we made it work.

  • This was my 5th stay (i think) with Ssameer and it still hasn't changed - which is GOOD. I keep on choosing this place every time I go visit Manhattan because of the following:
    - location
    - convenience
    - rate
    - hospitality
    - safety (neighborhood)

Sally has always been a great company and host - considering she had broken her back a month ago or so. Incredible woman, at the same time very warm - always a delight. Always have my coffee every morning from her. I even met her son (Ben) who's very cool. Plus the adorable Zorro (doggie) made it more fun!

This place is perfect for short stay vacationers like me.

I'm already planning to stay here for my Christmas vacay.

    Cheers Ssameer & Sally!

  • Loved neighborhood and sally.

  • Salli is excelent host, very kind, supportive and smart. She is really the main advantage of this place.

    May 2014
  • Sally, who sees guests and lives there, was a fine host. As all the reviews have mentioned, the place is rather unhygienic. There's a lot of dust and bugs and lack of ventilation. There's also a strong stench. Also good to know that she has a dog there.

  • Pros: Ssameer and Sally are quick to communicate
Location- less than a block from the 1 and in a safe neighborhood. Many supermarkets and cafes nearby

Cons: the place was dirty and messy but all you really need is a place to sleep and a restroom

Overall great stay at this place, I would definitely recommend. Remember you get what you pay for, this is inexpensive homestay and not a hotel so don't have high expectations.

  • The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    March 2014
  • The hostess, "Sally" was very gracious. I was a little uncomfortable with no curtain on the bedroom window, and none on the window in the shower.

    March 2014
  • One of the best accommodation in NYC. I like to come back hire. Sally was very hospitable and conversable.

    March 2014
  • I found my stay very enjoyable to say the very least and
most importantly, I learned so much.
