The canal is located in the oldest, UNESCO protected part of Amsterdam, with quite narrow streets. You could easily forget that you are right in the center of Amsterdam. This is the best place you can wish for while visiting Amsterdam!
Public transportation stops are right around the corner, but actually you don’t need it. You can reach everythin in the center by foot, the rest by bike.
Within 5 minutes walking distance:
+ Nieuwmarkt (lively square, terrace, cafés and restaurants, Saturday there is an organic market and Sunday antiques)
+ Waterlooplein (daily brocante market)
+ Supermarket and organic supermarket
+ Rembrandt house (this is where he lived and worked. You can see it from your window!)
+ Opera house and city hall (together the ‘Stopera’)
+ Hermitage museum
+ Artis Zoo
+ Botanical garden Hortus Botanicus
+ Rembrandt square (although I would not recommend it!)
Within 15 minutes walking:
All the rest in Amsterdam center!
The apartment is located right around the corner of the lively Nieuwmarkt square, that also has a metro stop. On the Waterlooplein, a 4 minutes’ walk, you can grab several trams. From the Train station Amsterdam Central you can reach the apartment in 11 minutes by foot, or 1 metro stop to Nieuwmarkt.
On several locations close by, you can rent bicycles. I will provide you with some good addresses when you arrive.
+ Fast wifi is available for our guests

Esther's flat was really nice and we enjoyed our stay immensely. Esther wasn't around but she made sure we were OK, and arranged her friend Floris to receive us. Although we arrived very late in the evening due to flight delays, Floris was very kind and stayed to welcome us without any complaints.
We really enjoyed Amsterdam, and the comfortable flat added to the great experience, since we enjoy buying food from local markets and relaxing at 'home' rather than eating out all the time.
The view of the canal from the apartment amazing. It is also very close to the city centre and major tourist attractions, and we didn't need to take any public transport to get around. There was a minor issue with the boiler, but Floris came to solve the problem immediately after I texted him.
Overall we would highly recommend Esther's flat and would come again if we visit Amsterdam again in the future.
Esther set us up nicely and we enjoyed the stay. I will most certainly consider Esther's place again for our return.
We stayed at Esther's house for 8 nights. Every morning waking up with whole windows of fresh green trees along the canal in the living room, I felt SUPER SUPER SUPER relaxed and delightful!!! That would make my day. Esther's house is very confortable and spacious. It's a home away from home. It got everything we need. The house is central located, close to public transportation, and restaurants and supermarkets are just nearby. Super recommended for Esther's house!!!!
Es un sitio muy tranquilo i agradable, no te cansas de mirar por la ventana es muy bonito. La casa es còmoda, i esta muy bien situado en el centro. I ella te ayuda si tienes algun problema o question.
Esther greeted us by helping carry our bags up the stairs and taking us through the apartment. She was so kind to also leave us with some local cheese, wine, milk and juice.
The neighbourhood was literally 2-5 minute walk to Nieuwmarket/Red Light district with plenty of shops, cafes and amenities close by.
The location is fantastic as it's just away from the hustle and bustle - so it's quiet - but close enough to all the action of the area. The decor of the apartment combines some fabulous vintage pieces with minimalistic modern pieces so it's very chic.
The apartment was clean and had all the amenities you'd need for a comfortable stay.
The only negative was the mattress, but everyone is different and some people love sleeping on a memory foam mattress - for us it took some getting use to.
The bathroom was stocked up with towels and toilet paper, the view was fantastic and the building was quiet too, so no noisy neighbours.
This place is definitely for those who would like a more chilled out stay in Amsterdam, but also close to all the action.
An absolutely fantastic apartment, spacious, right in the middle of it all. Our hostess, Esther, provided us with a wealth of information and resources on things to do and see, including multiple maps and tour guides. She really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We had a wonderful time and would happily stay here again.
About the Host, Esther
Hi, I'm Esther, and I help organisations to work on a more sustainable world.
Apart from that, me and my boyfriend Albert spend as much time as possible on our lovely wooden boat. That means our apartment is free for you to enjoy!
If you decide to stay in our house, I like to meet you in person when you arrive and answer all your questions about Amsterdam. In my student days, I used to be a tourguide on a canal boat, so don't hestitate to ask me anything!
