Interaction with Guests

We are friendly and accommodating but offer plenty of privacy; there is no shared space and guests have their own keyed entrance. Your hosts, Anne and her son Kyle, live upstairs. We live a quiet life. Unless you seek us out for touring advice or a friendly chat, you'll barely know we're here!

You may occasionally hear normal living sounds upstairs - kitchen sounds, conversation, cats playing - but we now keep things quiet from 11 pm to 7 am. For very light sleepers, we have a Sharper Image white noise clock radio that will lull you to sleep.

The Neighborhood

Fantastic location! We're in the heart of the city of Takoma Park, on the Washington DC-Maryland border. We're 7 miles from the White House, Capitol Hill, the National Mall, the Smithsonian, the Botanical Gardens, and many famous museums and art galleries.

Our neighborhood is friendly, and very walkable. Takoma Park is known for its many large trees and eclectic Victorian homes, its flowering foliage, hilly streets, and its friendly and diverse community atmosphere. There is plenty of open space and several parks nearby. Our town is home to many political notables, authors, artists, and musicians. A short walk into Old Town takes you to a variety of new restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, an organic food co-op, gift shops, clothing boutiques, antique stores, an award-winning spa.... and more! And don't miss our famous Farmer's Market each Sunday!

Getting around

We're a 10-minute walk to the Takoma Park Metro Station on the red line, then a 15-20 minute subway ride takes you right into the heart of Washington, DC. (We offer car rides to and from the metro, esp. for those with young children and luggage.) Our public transportation system is extensive and affordable, it's easy to get just about anywhere in the DC metropolitan region. Prefer to bike? Takoma Park has just installed two bike-share racks close by.

The Amtrack Train station is at Union Station, connected to the Red Line on the Metro, a 15-min ride from here. Three airports serve the DC metropolitan area: Dulles (IAD), Reagan International (DCA), and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). All three are approximately 35-45 minutes from our B&B and securing transportation from the airport to our home is easy - need help? - just ask!

  • My parents, dog, and I stayed at Takoma Bliss for one night. Anne thought of everything that one could need-- from an umbrella by the door to a medicine cabinet stocked with toiletries. It's a great location if you're traveling to D.C. with a car- there's plenty of street parking, the neighborhood is safe, and you're very close to the red line, which will bring you into the city quickly. We also appreciated the recommendations for places to eat in Takoma Park and the muffins and coffee.

  • This was not what I expected and I would not return.

  • Anne was a wonderful host. Very responsive and flexible, and the muffins are a lovely touch. The unit is great for kids and it was nice to have both a bedroom and living room space.

  • This was our first Airbnb rental and we were delighted with the whole experience. Anne was an excellent host, our 3 kids loved the space, and that morning muffin delivery (even in the surprise spring snow) was such a treat. Easy walk to Takoma Park through a really nice neighborhood. Anne even shoveled us out the morning we left so we could make our flight! Highly recommend a stay here.

  • Anne is an amazing host! She is great with communication prior to my stay and has made my visit to Takoma Park an easy experience. She is very accommodating and respects your privacy. Her place is spacious and very clean. The bedroom is very comfortable and definitely feels like a home away from home. Anne's place is my first choice when I visit Takoma Park again!

  • Fantastic B&B in Takoma Park! We stayed for the weekend with our dog and enjoyed Anne's hospitality and warm muffins at breakfast. She includes little instructions throughout the house for how to use things as well as recommendations for places to eat -- all of which we found helpful. Will definitely return!

  • Takoma Bliss was the perfect home base for the DC area college visits my son and I had planned. The space was lovely and we had plenty of room. Anne was a great communicator and has truly thought of everything to make her guests welcome and comfortable. She was available to us but let us come and go as if it were our own space.

I highly recommend Takoma Bliss and Anne. The only issue some people may have is that you can hear activity upstairs. It didn't bother us but if you're sound sensitive you might want bring earplugs and a white noise machine. I use them at night whenever I travel and slept like a baby. Enjoy!

  • My stay with Anne was short but really lovely. The location was great. Check in and out were very easy. The cottage was very clean and neat and offered everything I could have wanted. It was very quiet and I felt at home right away. I was sorry to have to leave early in the morning because I missed out on the homemade muffins that are offered. Overall, I would happily recommend this space to others and I would definitely stay there again.

  • Beautiful Host and great family location easy walking distance to food, parks, and shopping. Stay was during winter season but would have liked to been there during warm weather to access the included backyard and patio provided. The only disclaimer I would say is for light sleepers noise from the home above may be hard early in the morning.

    January 2014
  • This was a surprise gem! The location was perfect - easy to get to NW DC where I had to be every morning, and literally right around the corner from downtown Takoma Park. Loved the house! I felt right at home there and Anne was very accommodating.
    I highly recommend this inn!
