Interaction with Guests
We pride ourselves on our excellent accommodations, comfort, and service. We are responsive, respectful, and reliable. We are friendly (and can provide touring assistance on request) but we maintain complete privacy! There is no shared space and guests have their own keyed entrance. Depending on the circumstances, some of our guests never see or hear us! Of course, we're available 24/7 by phone or text for special requests and your hosts (Anne and her family) live right upstairs.
You may occasionally hear normal living sounds in the house - we generally keep things quiet from 11 pm to 8 am. For light sleepers, we have a white noise clock radio that will lull you to sleep. Need extra quiet? Just let us know!
Fantastic location! We're in the heart of the city of Takoma Park, on the Washington DC-Maryland border. We're 7 miles (11 kilometers) from the heart of Washington DC -- the White House, Capitol Hill, the National Mall, the Smithsonian, the Botanical Gardens, and many famous museums and art galleries.
Our neighborhood is friendly, community-oriented, and easily walkable. Takoma Park is known for its many large trees and eclectic Victorian homes, its flowering foliage, hilly streets, and its friendly and diverse community atmosphere. There is plenty of open space and several parks nearby. Our town is home to many political notables, authors, artists, and musicians.
A short walk into Old Town Takoma takes you to a variety of unique restaurants, bars, and pubs, several of which offer live music! We have coffee shops, an organic food co-op, gift shops, clothing boutiques, antique stores, a bead shop, an award-winning spa (Still Point)... and don't miss our famous Farmer's Market every Sunday!
It is a 10-minute walk to the Takoma Park Metro Station (on the Red Line), then a 15-20 minute subway ride takes you into the heart of Washington, DC. Our public transportation system is extensive and affordable, it's easy to get just about anywhere in the DC metropolitan region. Prefer to bike? Takoma Park has just installed two bike-share racks close by.
The Amtrack Train station is at Union Station, on the Red Line, a 15-min ride from Takoma Park. Three airports serve the DC metropolitan area: Dulles (IAD), Reagan International (DCA), and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). All three are approximately 35-45 minutes from our B&B and securing transportation from the airport to our home is easy - need help? - just ask!
Other Things to Note
We go the distance to accommodate our guests and offer a variety of services. We are committed to making your stay perfect!
We are easy-going and flexible but do have a few suggestions for our guests:
1) We have flexible check-in and check-out times. However, when we are fully booked and have back-to-back guests in one day we appreciate having plenty of time to clean and prepare, and often ask guests checking in to arrive at 5 pm or later. Planning a late night arrival? No problem!
2) During your stay, please let us know if you have any special requests or if you'd like us to add or improve on something-- we'll respond right away! We pride ourselves on our prompt and excellent service.
3) We allow pets on a case-by-case basis - please work out terms with us upon booking and before arrival.
4) If you have allergies or chemical sensitivities, let us know when you book the space and we will do a special deep-cleaning for you and provide an air purifier.
5) Absolutely NO SMOKING, inside our B&B or anywhere on our property.
6) If you happen to break or lose one of our items, please let us know right away so that we can work out a way to have it repaired or replaced.
7) Feel free to call or text us at any time! And if you'd like to meet and chat for a bit, invite us down! We give our guests total privacy and engage in person only at the initiation of our guests.
Enjoy your stay at Takoma Bliss!
We stayed at Anne’s place in mid February. She was very responsive through email and text, and let us check in early. Finding the place wasn’t hard at all.
The living room is big and has a great couch. There’s a door between your floor and the stair but there are visible gaps above the door where sound and light can travel through. The bed is a bit firmer than I typically like, but I didn’t have a problem sleeping on it, and neither did my girlfriend. We did have control over the thermostat which was nice, and lots of spare blankets in the closet. There’s no kitchen sink, so dishes get done in the bathroom sink.
The shower starts off warm and gets hot after 10 minutes. It has a good tank and lots of hot water, which is nice when it’s freezing outside.
In our experience, the WiFi wasn’t the strongest. For some reason, it kept un-linking to both our phones the when we were there. I’d suggest Anne to getting a hot spot point added downstairs.
Expect a more simplified breakfast than the full gourmet Bed & Breakfast experience. The breakfast, delivered in a cooler nicely at 8am, was minimum; milk and orange juice in small jars, 2 bagels the first morning, 4 pastries the second. Since it’s advertised as a B&B, it might be worth increasing the rent price and serve a bit more selection. But it was nice to have something ready to eat at your doorstep and took the thought of one meal out of the day.
When we arrived the bathroom was not completely clean. Anne was very responsive though and came back to clean again after we left after dropping our stuff. She gave us a discount on the place because of it, which was a nice gesture.
First, I love Takoma Park - it's a great "little town" right on the DC Metro. And Takoma Bliss is right in character, in an airy, comfy renovated bungalow. Anne made everything so easy. I also really appreciated the eco-friendly (and non-allergenic) environment. I'd come back again any time.
We enjoyed our stay with Anne. We found the apartment to be clean, well equipped and welcoming. We had to stay an extra night because of the snow in the east and Anne was very gracious in extending our stay. She even cleared the snow from our car.

I was with 4 family members who has not tried or even heard of airbnb and their reaction was "whoa! this is a cool spot!". My family and i was at DC for a random day trip, we needed a place to stay for the night. Anne was quick to reply and very attentive to what we need. All 5 of us were able to sleep very comfortably. There was a room with a queen size bed, an air mattress by the living area and a very comfortable sofa! The place seemed to be attached to the main house (its like the basement) but with a different entrance. We checked in late around 12am and left at 10am. Wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks Anne!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Takoma Bliss. Anne's apartment is very cozy, comfortable and feels like home. A great place to return home to after long days walking. It was very well supplied and we did not wish for anything. Proximity to the Metro station is great, a quick 4-5 block walk, then a quick ride into DC proper. We loved the Takoma Park area, especially restaurants (Roscoe's & Mark's highly recommended) and shops very close by. The Sunday morning farmer's market is great for stocking up on fruit and other snacks. We had a great time at Anne's and definitely stay again if in the DC area again. Thanks Anne!!
The house and essential itself was all great. Did not really met the host and everything was done through texting. Breakfast wasn't quite what i was expecting =( Overall everything is good.
We had a great time at Anne's place. The breakfast was very wholesome and had good options. The location was a bit of a walk to the metro but it was through a good section of town.
