CHANGES COMING TO MT. BAKER HOUSE! (please read if you plan to book after October 2013:
I'm switching things around a little at the house. I am moving upstairs and putting my guest accommodations in the large apartment below the house. This means that the guest rooms will now be 2 instead of 5. Nearly everything will remain the same, just the physical rooms will be different. More info to come. See photos.

Experience a wonderful historic Seattle neighborhood! (And in my humble opinion the best neighborhood in the city.)
This is a colonial revival California bungalow. The house is spacious and airy and gets great daylight. I've created a home-like atmosphere where the home is welcoming a tidy.

My rooms are designed around what I look for in a place when I travel: I like to be independent and have things quiet and comfortable. The house is set up so that you can come and go and be independent but also meet people and be social if you like.

My goal is to provide really great accommodations at the lowest cost to my guests. I do not make breakfast for guests but you can use the kitchen and there are two grocery stores very close by. Bathrooms are shared and there’s usually no problem getting in there when you need to.

The house is close to everything but it's quiet at night. The neighborhood of Mt. Baker is very diverse. There are many different cultures and types of people all around. The zip code is in close proximity to the 98118, which is the most diverse zip code in the country. Please please please do not think that because there are many cultures in this vicinity that it is an unsafe place. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over 8 years and have never had a problem with anyone I’ve passed on the street.
Please note: there is no television in the house or (website hidden). Baker house is two blocks from the Mt. Baker light rail station, which will get you downtown in about 12 minutes, and to the airport in less than 25 min. You wouldn't need a car, but there is regulated zoned street parking. There's a QFC, Safeway, Starbucks, and cute Italian eatery (called Mio Posto) in easy walking distance.
Gorgeous trails and swimming at Lake Washington (Mt. Baker beach) also within walking distance.
No smoking. Wireless internet included.
Check in is 3pm, check out is at 11am.
When you book you'll receive a welcome letter from me telling you how to get to and get into the house.
I look forward to hosting you!

Guest Access

I have a key-less entry put into place. See welcome letter.

Interaction with Guests

I am currently planning my wedding and working on opening a yoga studio. I am a hands off host. I try to meet each guest but I like to leave my guests alone to go about their business.

The Neighborhood

Not to brag, but Mt. Baker is the best neighborhood in the city. It's close to downtown and sites but you can also walk to Lake Washington and urban hiking trails.

  • This my first time being in Seattle and I really enjoyed. Nice city, nice people and nice apartment! It's big, comfortable and clean. Emily was a sweet host. I really liked her gives. Anywhere you could feel temperate as yourself home.Thanks.

  • A clean, comfortable place to stay. Emily was a great host - friendly and helpful - and has thought things through and left good clear instructions to keep things running smoothly.

  • Very comfortable, private, and in a great location. Convenient to public transport! Emily was a great host and very responsive when the door lock was acting up. Would definitely stay again.

  • Emily was an excellent host and if I would lodge here again if I visit Seattle. It is clear she's very experienced in this and knows that her guests wants. She answered any questions I had in a very timely manner.

I felt very safe in the neighbourhood and felt very comfortable leaving my things in the room I was assigned. I liked the coded entry system which meant I can come and go as I please. The place is right off the light-rail line which links to the airport and downtown.

  • My hubby & I needed a get away! And timed it perfectly with a job interview in the city! Emily's place was absolutely perfect! We didn't realize there were 2 rooms, but it didn't really matter. Our roomy was quiet and we left bright & early. The bed was comfy and the whole place is just very welcoming. The energy here is amazing! The homemade soaps & beer in the fridge are a nice touch!

Emily recommended some great gluten free restaurants near by. Miopesto was within walking distance, BUT the 10 degree weather was too chilly for our evening out! The atmosphere & pizza were great!

We'd definitely recommend Emily's place & may even find ourselves back!! PS He got the job!

    Thanks Emily!!

  • I had a great time staying in this lovely, calm room. The house is adorable and really quiet-- close enough to the city center to be really convenient, but far enough away to be peaceful. The train station is only 5 minutes away, perfect location. The hostess is very thoughtful-- she even makes her own soap.

  • This is my 3rd or 4th stay at Emily's. Nuff said. :-)

    December 2013
  • If you stay in the wintertime in Emily's comfortable, convenient, clean and graciously appointed basement suite apartment, BE SURE to get someone to show you how the heaters turn on!! We froze our first night, but were comfortable our second. Very nice place and a really great host. We fell in love with our flat-mate, who was so nice about switching rooms so that my party could have the room with the two beds. REMEMBER TO BE CRYSTAL CLEAR WITH EMILY which room you want: ZEN Room = 2 beds; BLISS Room = 1 bed. We'd stay there again, it's a really great place. Thanks to Emily for offering her house.

I teach Yoga and Pilates and am in school to complete my bachelor's degree. I'm majoring in modern dance, movement therapy, Yoga Sutra study, first people's medicine ways, and memoir writing. I have been a property manager for 9 years. And have been a host on Airbnb since 2009. I LOVE to travel. I've been to India twice spending a total of 6 months there, traveling and studying yoga. I've also been to Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Thailand, Sweden, Paris, Italy, England, Scotland, Brussels, Holland, Buenos Aires, and Barbados. I love seeing new places and experiencing other cultures. At the Mt. Baker House my goal is to provide my guests with comfy and affordable accommodations. I try to provide what I look for in a place when on the road: safe, secure, clean, accessible accommodation to lay my head each night. I've also found that I don't require 5 star amenities where I end up paying out the ear for things I don't really need- $20 can of soda, exorbitant room prices, wireless internet fees. I'd rather spend my money on other things like sightseeing and local events. To me the most important thing is the experience of the local town, the real feel of a city. My long term dream for the house is to put in a more formal organic garden (with chickens and bees perhaps!), and to create a community space and somehow incorporate the students from the high school nearby. And maybe have a yoga/event space in the house. I have had yoga events at the house in the past but right now school is my main focus. I sincerely hope you enjoy my house! Thanks for supporting a local small business.
