Description

The Space

Listen and look at the Ocean from this large spaceous 1200' square foot room with kitchen, bath and living area. The walls are earth covered with recycled granite mosaic and glass bottles with earth mortar that give off a wonderful warm feeling. The floors are earthen with large 150 year old teak trees supporting the natural birch ceiling. Large original oil paintings complement the open feeling you will enjoy while staying here.
The bathroom has a double granite sink, toilet, shower, extra long antique claw foot iron tub, earthen walls with granite mosaics with old salvaged teak doors and walls from Thailand.

All lighting LED, energy efficent and human friendly.
The kitchen has a full sink, two burner stove, fridge and pantry area.
We have bikes, wifi, beach items all included in your stay.We have excellent well water that we then run thru a reverse osmosis system, so no need to buy water in plastic that was shipped from afar.

The Zen Root is on a beautiful, rustic retreat sanctuary located on the island of Kaua'i. The land is situated just a few minutes walk from the protected Moloaa Bay, and is just 30 minutes from the airport. Moloaa, is known for its farming community and rural, “off the beaten track" feel.

Our mission is to connect people to the beauty of Kaua'i, and our spaces have been created to blend seamlessly with the nature that surrounds us. We strive to be as “eco-friendly" as we can, and to minimize our impact on our surroundings. We don't use poisons and you may see insects that are harmless such as ants, spiders, snails and roaches, ect., we have no snakes.
The buildings are constructed of reclaimed teak and sandalwood from 150 year old buildings in Thailand. We also incorporate earthen floors, exterior walls, and reclaimed granite in the kitchen and bathroom. The structures are all working pieces of art, incorporating mosaics and statues.
This is a place to remember our connection to the wonder of life. It is a place to relax, unplug, and experience life the way it once was. Come enjoy the open air structures, the healing ocean, and the beauty that is Old Kaua'i. We look forward to sharing the beauty of Moloaa with you.

Guest Access

Bikes, beach chairs, fins and snokling gear, yoga mats, surf boards, tandem kayak, spear guns, fishing poles, beach towels, scuba tank, boogie boards, and Moloaa Bay.

Interaction with Guests

We are happy to talk with our guest if they want to know about anything. We also are happy to let our guest have their own personal retreat time without interuptions.

The Neighborhood

We are just a few minutes from Moloaa Bay, which is great for swimming, snokling on the north and south sides, enjoying the nice beaches and hiking to the north point for sunrise to see turtles or whales.
We also have Moloaa fruit stand just up the road for coffee, smoothies, sandwiches; as well as a good health food store 10 minutes drive to the north. Also Common ground garden restaurant across from the health food store has organic and local breakfast and lunches that are wonderful.

Getting Around

We really recommend renting a car due to the fact that Kaua'i is very spread out.
That said, the bus stop is up the hill 2.4 miles at Moloaa fruit stand and hitch hiking is common and easy in Kauai.
