The Space

Queen bed in a sweet room overlooking a lush tropical garden. House is fully fenced and secure, in a quiet street in Manoora, Cairns. Wifi and all landline calls included. Gorgeous pool with fountain. Bus stop around the corner, we are 15 minutes from town, and 7 minutes from the airport. Quickest and easiest way to get here from the airport is by taxi - around $20 - and I can often pick guests up from the airport or station, depending on my work schedule.

Share with a performer / artist and her child, a quirky 13 year old, and a cute collie cross called Maxi (sleeps outdoors!). We are queer friendly, kid friendly, just about every kind of friendly :} Expect lots of artworks, musical instruments, movie nights and an occasional rehearsal! I keep my home clean and my garden fruitful - herbs, vegies and fruit trees out front, tropical forest plants out back. We are breeding the endangered Cairns Birdwing Butterfly in our back yard!

While you are here, you are one of the family. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and if you would like to share other meals with us you are welcome - I just ask that you contribute something to the kitchen in return :} If you prefer to eat out or to cook for yourself that is also perfectly fine.

I walk the dog at the creek or the beach every day, and we quite often do day trips to beautiful local forests, markets and festivals. Guests are welcome to join us on our outings. We are both involved in the arts, and you are also welcome to join us at theater, music and visual arts events. Be as social, or as reclusive, as you feel - this is your home for the time being. Come and stay!

Guest Access

There is a bicycle, and a moped that guests can borrow to get around. Guests are welcome to use all the household amenities: pool, washing machine, computer and printer, kitchen, TV and X Box, musical instruments, games - anything that is kept in shared areas is for sharing!

Interaction with Guests

I work from home, and am usually on hand to answer questions or give local tips. We like to share meals with our guests, and to spend time having fun.

The Neighborhood

A multicultural neighbourhood close to the town centre. 2 shopping centres in walking distance, with take away food shops, pharmacies, post offices, banks etc. Beautiful parks and swimming holes nearby.

Getting around

Reef trips all depart from the Marina, which is in town - a 20 minute bus ride or a 10 minute cab fare (around $20 by cab). Depending on my work and home schedule, I'm happy to offer lifts into town and/or to the Marina. There are 2 bus routes within 5 minute's walk from our front door. Both will take you to town, local shopping centres, and the Botanical Gardens and Arts Centres.

Other Things to Note

We have a very friendly dog called Maxi and a very shy turtle called Shelley. Maxi will cry if you don't say hello to him! The garden is full of flowers, butterflies and beautiful birds. We grow our own herbs and spices.

  • It was a great stay. Zeldas house is very big and everything is clean. The pool was fantastic, it looks like a lagoon and the water is so enjoyable. The way to the city with the bus is a bit difficult but doable and Zelda gave us a lift whenever it was possible as well. Zelda was also very helpful and friendly, she gave us important advices and we had nice conversations with her.
Never to be forgotten: her dog is soooo gorgeous!!

  • Thank's Zelda for a great stay in your lovely Queenslander Home in Cairns. I was able to use your house like my own home, especially your huge garage where I was able to sort out my campervan and contents. We enjoyed our time in Cairns and will call again next time we are there.

  • My daughter and I had a relaxing three days at Zelda's. Her home had a great Cairns vibe and she was a welcoming host. The coffee, fresh passionfruit from the garden and the calls of tropical birds in the trees were a highlight.

  • I had the pleasure of staying with Zelda and her family for almost a week at the end of July, beginning of August. After spending a lot of time traveling, arriving at her place felt like I was coming to my own home. She made me feel completely welcomed and comfortable in her home. The week was wonderful, and her hospitality made leaving the beautiful city Cairns even more difficult! THANKS ZELDA!

  • Julien and I stayed at Zelda’s place for a week and we had a wonderful stay! The house was clean, comfortable and in a quiet area. Oli and Zelda were very friendly, helpful and gave us good advice about what to do around Cairns. Even if the house is outside the city, the bus stop is not far which is very convenient. Zelda also offered to pick us up and drop us at the airport which was very pleasant.

    Highly recommenced

    Thanks again for everything :D

  • My husband and I stayed with Zelda and Oli for a few days while we got out SCUBA certification in Cairns. It really felt like a true homestay - she welcome us into her house and we had the opportunity to share a few meals with her and Oli. While at first we were a little hesitant about being a busride away from Cairns, ultimately we decided we were happy that we stayed outside the city -- it was a quiet little neighborhood and definitely less touristy than a lot of the accomodation in downtown Cairns. It was also super easy to get a bus to the Botanical Garden, beach, and other places we wanted to get to, and there was a super market within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • I stayed with Zelda for around one month.
My goals for the trip were to work and to train for the ironman Cairns competition.
Zelda has a huge house, it was easy to park my bicycle and in general was very helpful about any training related problem I may have.
The kitchen is huge and Zelda allows to use it at your heart content.
I have a visitor and she also provide us with guidance.
Zelda is very active and goes to lots of activities, she would invite me to go to them.
In general I am quite happy. One month is quite long and I was concerned about it but it turned out being a very good experience.
