Share with a performer / artist from Australia and a very happy dog. We are queer friendly, kid friendly, just about every kind of friendly :}
Lovely private room with view of garden and pool :)
Delicious meals to share!
Double story house (Queenslander) with air con in bedrooms, wi fi, washing machine, guest computer and printer & coffee machine!
The house is 4.5km from the town centre, in a multicultural neighbourhood close to the Botanic Gardens.

The space

Queen bed in a sweet room with air con overlooking a lush tropical garden. House is fully fenced and secure, in a quiet street. Wifi, washing machine, computer and printer use all included. Gorgeous pool with waterfall.

Quickest and easiest way to get here from the airport is by taxi or uber - around $20 - $30 - and I can often pick guests up from the airport or station, depending on my work schedule.

The bus stop is around the corner, and takes 20 minutes to or from town.
Reef and rainforest trips all depart from town.

Expect lots of artworks, musical instruments, movie nights and an occasional rehearsal! I keep my home clean and my garden fruitful - herbs, veggies and fruit trees out front, tropical forest plants out back. We are breeding the endangered Cairns Birdwing Butterfly in our back yard!

While you are here, you are one of the family. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and if you would like to share other meals with us you are welcome - I just ask that you contribute something to the kitchen in return :} If you prefer to eat out or to cook for yourself that is also perfectly fine.

I walk every day, and we quite often do day trips to beautiful local forests, markets and festivals. Guests are welcome to join us on our outings. We are involved in the arts, and you are also welcome to join us at theatre, music and visual arts events. Be as social, or as reclusive, as you feel - this is your home for the time being. Come and stay!

Guest access

There is a bicycle that guests can borrow to get around.
Guests are welcome to use all the household amenities: pool, washing machine, computer and printer, kitchen, TV and X Box, musical instruments, games - anything that is kept in shared areas is for sharing!

Interaction with guests

I work from home, and am usually on hand to answer questions or give local tips. We like to share meals with our guests, and to spend time having fun.

Other things to note

The garden is full of flowers, butterflies and beautiful birds. We grow our own herbs and spices.

Zelda's place is absolutely wonderful. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Maxi, her dog, is an absolute sweetheart! I was invited to have dinner with her every night of my stay there and she was able to provide transport to and from the airport. Thnak you for everything Zelda, I had a great time!

Our time with Zelda, Oli, and Max was the highlight of our trip to Australia. We felt at home right away! She always had helpful tips about Cairns and always had good advice to offer us whenever we had any questions. There's a bus stop just down the street that goes into the city that takes about 20 minutes or so, but many times we were able to get a lift with Zelda when she went into town. She also gave us a lift back to the airport when it was time for us to fly out! We'll miss having dinner together, and your yummy smoothies :) Thank you Zelda and Oli for everything! 3

I had the pleasure of staying with Zelda and her family for almost a week at the end of July, beginning of August. After spending a lot of time traveling, arriving at her place felt like I was coming to my own home. She made me feel completely welcomed and comfortable in her home. The week was wonderful, and her hospitality made leaving the beautiful city Cairns even more difficult! THANKS ZELDA!

My husband and I stayed with Zelda and Oli for a few days while we got out SCUBA certification in Cairns. It really felt like a true homestay - she welcome us into her house and we had the opportunity to share a few meals with her and Oli. While at first we were a little hesitant about being a busride away from Cairns, ultimately we decided we were happy that we stayed outside the city -- it was a quiet little neighborhood and definitely less touristy than a lot of the accomodation in downtown Cairns. It was also super easy to get a bus to the Botanical Garden, beach, and other places we wanted to get to, and there was a super market within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay!

We only stayed 1 night with Zelda but had a really great experience. She was super helpful as soon as we arrived, and even offered to help carry in some of our luggage. She made the effort to give us all the information we needed and helped us feel at home. Thanks Zelda!
