About this listing
One bedroom remodel with a brand new kitchen dining area, sofa bed, canopied roof terrace, WIFI and air conditioning. 1 minute walk from main shopping , bars and restaurants while in the center of a quiet and characteristic old quarter.
Our house is in the city center in the old part of Cagliari, Villanova. It is a one bedroom apartment on the second floor with a spacious living room-kitchen and a terrace the size of the entire home. There is a lot of light in the entire apartment. 4 people can sleep comfortably as there is 1 bedroom but the living room has a new sofa bed that folds out to a queen size bed.
We completely remodeled and refurnished the house in March, 2013. The house has all you need to live as if you were at your own house (see below).
The house is 100 meters from a beautiful square called San Giacomo and 300 meters from the center of town. Our neighborhood has undergone a transformation for the better in the past 5 years, House owners and shopkeepers have remodeled their homes and while they have maintained the old feel to it, due to strict building codes, it is clean and polished up. The neighborhood is full of cafe's, restaurants and bars. It is only a 2 minute walk from the shopping center but our house is extremely quiet.
I am American and have lived in Sardinia for 20 years and my wife is Italian. My friends and family call me vacation master and I love helping people plan their time on the island. We have a house in Pula as well- and that house is fun as well if you want to do 5 days here and 5 days there, for example.
Our roof terrace is one of the strong attractions of the house. It is a place in the middle of the city where you can talk, eat, rest and really feel like a local. No great views of the sea but just a feeling of living like a local, enjoying a lot of space on top of your house and taking in some sun or staying in the shade and taking it all in.
We keep the house very clean as we are clean freaks:0).
What is included?
2 sets of sheets and 2 sets of towels.
Air conditioning and heating.
Hair dryer, dishwasher, clothes washing machine.
High Speed Wifi throughout the house and on the roof terrace.
Roof Terrace is equipped with tables and chairs to have meals and to stay out even when it is sunny and hot (we have a sort of canopy-gazebo on the rooftop).
We have a cleaning lady who can come midweek for €10 per hour.
Please note: my stairs are steep so if you have any problems with walking, maybe not for you.
If you have a car, there is a parking lot 200 meters from my house and it costs €5 per day. You can also find parking near my house on the street for €1 per hour.
PLEASE remember my house is in a no driving zone so while you can risk it and drive and drop off your bags in front of the house (ONLY if the sign to get into the old quarter says, "Varco Aperto), you can only stay there in time to drop off the bags and make sure you park in a place where you leave space for the city bus to get by.
You have access to the entire house. it is a comfortable home with everything you need to cook, go to the beach, etc. If you get in at a strange hour, I have a way to leave a key in a secret hiding place so you can arrive when you want and pick up the key without me coming at 2 am to open the door:0).
Interaction with Guests
A lot. I am social and love helping you. This can go from a simple coffee or beer upon your arrival where I give you suggestions to a planned dinner, outing...I find no great satisfaction than helping visitors enjoy the Italian/Sardinian culture to the max and doing what I can to help you get that local insight which often gets lost in translation.
My neighborhood is a mixture of a historic quarter with a lot of the Cagliaritani who still live there to anything from tourists to foreigners who have bought a house here. It is central but tranquil. I sometimes just come to my roof terrace to take it all in.
you can take the train from the airport for 1 euro to the center of town and walk to my house from there. it is a 15 minute walk, uphill. a taxi to my house from the airport is around €15-20. If you have a car, please read the following .
For Villanova: you can access this neighborhood with a car from
(phone number hidden) and from (phone number hidden) . The penalty provided for the access of unauthorized will be 76 € , while the rest will result in a penalty of 39 euro . Including the forced removal as a sanction .
Other Things to Note
I have a number of friends that do cool things and can make your vacation richer. This goes from going to the market with a local chef and cooking with him to talking a guided walking tour of the city with my son or with a more speficic guide if you are looking for art history. I am a golfer and am happy to spend a day on the golf course with you or hook you up with my golf pro. I have friends who have boats, I can organize all sorts of food or nature activities.
Please treat my house as if it where yours. Garbage is recycled, so you need to separate plastic, cans, glass and the rest. If you break something please let me know and please use the beach towels for the beach and please try to use towels sparingly.
The apartment has been tastefully renovated, and we found it to be very clean and well equipped (we had everything from shower gel to coffee, sugar, oil, napkins...). The neighborhood is very nice and silent at night, but close to everything at the same time. Jon and Cristina were great hosts, I would definitely recommend visiting!
Jon's apartment is a true gem! Located in the most beautiful area of Cagliari with plenty of great places to eat nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially the roof terrace. The apartment is equipped with everything you need and Jon is very helpful. It was such a pleasant stay, would highly recommend!
L hôte à tout prévu pour qu on se sente comme chez soi. L appartement est conforme aux photos.
Great location in the old town of Cagliari and the apartment is done tastefully! Everything is walking distance and we enjoyed being in the middle of the typical Italian neighbourhood.
We had a lot of luggage and to lug it two steep stairs was a bit of a pain but worth all the trouble :)
We had to checkout early as Jon was expecting next set of guests but being so central we could easily pass our time walking around the old town, looking at stores and enjoying an italian coffee in one of the local cafes.
Jon was really a great and uncomplicated host. He e-mailed me many awesome tips (restaurant, beaches etc.) The apartment is very clean and modern. We felt at home immediately. We would definitely come back. Cagliari is really a visit worth.
The apartment was clean and presented as in the photos.
The area in the old part of Cagliari was beautiful.
The kitchen was stocked with various staples such as olive oil which was very convenient.
The only criticism is that unfortunately the sofa bed was very hard and uncomfortable.

About the Host, Jon
I am from Newton, Ma. but I have lived in Sardinia , Italy since 1992. Recently I moved to Berkeley, California to work for a tech company called Industrial Logic. I am an ex ice hockey player, turned golfer, food fanatic and cook.
I am married with 2 sons and a daughter.
I moved to Sardinia in 1992 for my love of the culture and island and am still in love with it. I take great joy in showing people the hidden secrets of this earthly paradise and that goes from a local pizzeria where you can get the best asparagus and gorgonzola pizza to showing you how to get to the right beaches, how to rent a sail boat for a day or how to see and experience one of the best fresh fish markets in the world.
I have been involved in airbnb since the beginning as host and traveller and it has changed my life. I had the opportunity to teach a class at airbnb's first open where I met the founders and a lot of the employees as well as a huge number of airbnb enthusiasts. I manage a group on airbnb called we love sardiinia. Since I am now travelling between Berkeley and Sardinia, I am managing houses for friends in both places. My wife, Cristina, is on the ground in Sardinia and I am mostly in the USA these days. At first airbnb was a way for me to make ends meet with an investment my wife and I had made. Now , it is a way of life, a way to share and to meet people from all over the world.
