About this listing
Enjoy the most beautiful harbour city in the world from the luxury of your own private yacht! No boat licence or boat experience required and it's your choice to stay near a centrally located marina or in a quiet bay with a view of the Opera House.
HOW IT WORKS
At the beginning of your stay we’ll meet you at a marina in Rushcutters Bay – ten minutes from the city centre and half an hour from the airport - and take you out in a small boat (a “tender”) to the yacht. We’ll show you how everything works, we’ll give you a safety briefing, and then we’ll leave you alone on the yacht to enjoy being on the harbour. You don’t need any boating experience and you don’t need a licence. The yacht is in “commercial survey” which means it’s certified by the authorities and is completely safe. If you choose, we’d also be delighted to take you on a two hour cruise of Sydney Harbour.
You have a choice of two places for the yacht to be located.
Elizabeth Bay is close to the cosmopolitan restaurants and shops of Potts Point and Kings Cross. From here there's a train service to take you into the city centre and Opera House (one stop) or else it's a pleasant walk through the Botanic Gardens. The yacht will be at anchor and a daytime boat service will take you to and from the shore whenever you like. If you want to get to or from the yacht more than once during the day or during the evenings or at night there’s a small charge for the boat service (see OPTIONAL EXTRAS below).
If you'd like to see the whole of Sydney laid out in front of you, complete with the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge we'll take you to a quiet bay next to Taronga Zoo - take a look at some of the photos on this listing to see how spectacular it is! The bay is fabulous for swimming in and there’s even a nearby beach. There's a small additional charge for this option (see OPTIONAL EXTRAS below).
Please bear in mind that this is a yacht, not an apartment! If you're after experiencing Sydney in a wonderfully different way then please go ahead and make a booking enquiry or booking request, but if you're simply after accommodation do bear in mind that staying on a boat is not going to be as convenient as staying on dry land. We recommend that while the yacht can sleep 6, the yacht is most suitable for groups of up to 4 people. Please limit your luggage to one soft bag per person. Suitcases are not allowed on board (they damage the woodwork) but, with prior arrangement, I can store them for you.
PRIVATE HARBOUR CRUISE
We’d be delighted to take you on a two hour private cruise on Sydney Harbour. We’ll motor or sail past Fort Denison, Admiralty and Kirribilli Houses, under the Harbour Bridge and into Darling Harbour, past Walsh Bay, Circular Quay and the Opera House into Farm Cove, then on to see Australia’s most exclusive homes in Darling Point, Double Bay, Point Piper and Rose Bay, then we’ll sail or motor off down the harbour towards Watsons Bay and Manly. Or else just let the skipper know where you’d like to go and what you’d like to see – after all, this is a private cruise! We can also arrange to drop you in town – at the Sydney Opera House or elsewhere – and pick you up later. (See OPTIONAL EXTRAS below).
If you'd like to do a Harbour Cruise without staying overnight on the yacht please do get in touch (you can use the "contact host" link). A 2 hour mid week cruise (without staying overnight) is $300, three hours is $400. For cruises on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays (without staying overnight) it's $400 for two hours and $500 for three hours.
WHAT’S ON BOARD THE YACHT
“Europa” is 46 feet (14 metres) of exquisite, European-built quality and luxury. She has 3-cabins (3 double beds), two bathrooms complete with luxurious whisper-quiet electric flush toilets, a luxurious saloon with wifi, a top-notch stereo, and a DVD player.
The kitchen (galley) has a two burner stove and oven, a fridge, double sink, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses and mugs. We’ll leave some milk in the fridge, salt, pepper, cooking oil, washing-up supplies, tea and coffee and a welcome basket of biscuits and chips.
The cabins are made up with freshly ironed sheets and pillow cases, pillows, doona (duvet), blankets, face cloths and fluffy towels.
Up on deck there's very roomy seating and lounging space for six, a fold-out teak table, and a sun awning to keep out the midday sun. The back of the boat (the transom) folds down to form a swimming platform and there's even a hot shower on deck (as well as the two showers in the bathrooms downstairs - but please be aware that hot water is limited on the yacht!)
While the yacht is luxurious, it is a yacht, not a house! Space is, of course, limited and it's a bit like "glamping" (glamorous camping) - i.e. it's very indulgent, very comfortable, a little adventurous, and very different from being in an apartment or hotel room! Please do take note of the house rules – and please especially take note that in order to protect the yacht from damage, hard luggage is not allowed on board.
CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIMES
Check-in time is normally after 4pm and check-out is normally before 10am – however, if there isn’t a booking on either side of your stay the check-in and check-out times can be as early or as late as you like. If you’d like to take a chance on the yacht being available for your early arrival or late departure then there’s no additional cost - if the yacht is available, you're welcome to check in or check out as early/late as you like - but if you’d like to guarantee that the yacht is available for your early arrival or late departure there's a small additional charge (see OPTIONAL EXTRAS below).

Interaction with Guests
I will be available by phone and email throughout the stay to ensure your comfort and safety, and to answer the myriad questions about living on board a yacht!
Sydney Harbour is the most stunning place on earth. OK.. maybe a slight exaggeration, but it's certainly up there with the best!
If you've chosen the ELIZABETH BAY option you'll be a couple of minutes walk to the shops and restaurants of Potts Point and only half an hour's walk to the Opera House and the centre of the city. There are also plenty of buses and trains to take you into town.
If you've chosen the TARONGA ZOO option you'll have the whole city skyline laid out in front of you and you'll be less than 100m from a sheltered, sandy beach. A two minute walk from there and you're at the ferry wharf where there are hourly ferries to whisk you across the harbour to Circular Quay, the centre of town and the Opera House.
If you've chosen the ELIZABETH BAY option there is a tender service to take you to and from the shore where it's a half hour walk into the centre of the city (and there are plenty of buses and trains). One return daytime trip per day is included within the accommodation price. Additional trips to or from the yacht cost $30 each way. Between 5pm and 11pm the cost is $50 each way. After 11pm the cost is $100 each way. Please see details within the HOUSE RULES section.
A dinghy and outboard may also be made available to you to get to and from the shore - please enquire.
Other Things to Note
The wifi is by mobile (cell) 4G and is suitable only for emails and web browsing with a maximum of 100MB download or upload per day. Use greater than 1GB per day will be charged at $25 per 100MB or part thereof.
We'll chat about what time you'd like to arrive and I'll make sure I'm available to meet you and welcome you aboard. But I do ask, please, if you're running late (or early!) do let me know so I can change my plans. Your time is valuable and, if you haven't let me know you're running late and I'm not able to be (email hidden)-scheduled time, I don't want to keep you waiting around.
If you're arriving by plane it's useful to let me know your flight number so I can track any delays.
• Please... NO SUITCASES or eskies (cooler boxes) - they cause severe damage to the Burmese teak woodwork. Please bring soft bags only (and please remember that this is a boat so unless there are just two or three of you staying there won't be a great deal of room for lots of luggage). If you're traveling with suitcases you'll need to bring soft bags and transfer what you need from your suitcases into the bags. I can arrange storage of your suitcases - but only with prior notice. Please note that if you turn up with suitcases without having made arrangements to store them on land you may not be able to board the yacht.
•Smoking on boats is very dangerous, is ruinous to the boat's fabric, and is absolutely forbidden inside or on the boat.
•Soft soled, non-marking shoes only.
•Please do not leave anything hard or sharp on any of the woodwork (this includes but is not limited to: chargers, cases, hard luggage, implements, metal objects etc).
•Scratches to the woodwork are expensive to repair and if a scratch is caused you will most likely lose your deposit.
NOISE AND BEHAVIOUR
•Please respect other harbour users’ rights to peace and quiet.
•There are instructions for flushing the toilets in the bathrooms - please follow the instructions closely but you must remember: do not flush anything down the toilet other than pee, poo and very small amounts of toilet paper.
•Sanitary products, tissues, paper towels, hair, condoms etc will block the toilets and repairs to the plumbing will cause you to lose your deposit.
•Although the boat awning will keep most of the damp off, some moisture does penetrate. Please do not leave the cushions outside overnight, if you’re away from the boat for the day or if it's raining – please store them inside the boat.
•Overhead hatches must be closed when you’re away from the boat for the day or if it’s raining.
•If the awning has been put over the boat it must not be taken down or adjusted since doing so may cause damage.
ELIZABETH BAY BOAT SERVICE
•If you’re staying on a mooring in Elizabeth Bay and you’d like to get off the boat you can call Sean on (phone number hidden) collect you.
•One daytime trip per day on the tender is free of charge (but it only operates from 7am-6pm in the summer and 9am-5pm between mid March and mid October). Additional trips cost $30 each way.

What a stupendous start to our Australian holiday. The Europa is an absolutely beautiful vessel and David is the perfect captain. We arrived early on Sunday morning, jetlagged from a very long trip from the UK and David provided coffee and a fantastic tour of the harbour to lift our spirits and show us Sydney for the first time. It couldn't of been a better introduction. We had a magical three days and he could not have been kinder. He took us to wonderful moorings, ferried us to the Sydney Opera house and gave our friends a treat by showing them around the boat. He is an incredibly accomplished sailor and you feel so safe in his hands. Combines this with a fantastic knowledge about his chosen home city. All in all a really memorable trip and we feel like we've made a new friend. We've already recommended David to several people we've met since leaving the boat. Including their friends who are leaving Sydney and hope to celebrate a 50th birthday on board.
Wow Simon - I really need to employ you as my agent! Thank you so much for your very kind words... it was an absolute pleasure meeting you and your family and I was so pleased to show off Sydney in all her glory.
I do hope you're having a fabulous rest of your holiday and I very much look forward to catching up with you when you're next in Sydney.
All the best,
we had a great time during our afternoon cruise. david is a wonderful host and ecperienced sailor. our whole family had an excellent time. we will defintely be back.
David is a cheerful, helpful and generous host. He motored us to Taronga Zoo for the night for free, which is normally a couple of hundred dollars extra. The boat is in beautiful condition.
Sailing around Sydney harbour was such a wonderful experience. The yacht is beautiful, very comfortable and David the host was extremely informative and showed us some very interesting places, we even saw seals :-) we will definitely be staying on the yacht again. We loved everything about it. Thank you so much David
David was a wonderful host over a special two days on board for a celebration with our two twenty year old daughters. He moored us in calm waters within sight of the harbour bridge and next day took us on a lovely sunset cruise around the harbour showcasing his outstanding knowledge of the harbour and it's impressive real estate! He even dropped us off at the Opera House where we alighted for a stroll to dinner. The yacht is gorgeous - beautifully crafted and well appointed. The weather was chilly, but we were comfortable inside. Nothing was too much trouble for David. We look forward to returning in warmer months where we can enjoy the Sydney sunshine and the unique beauty of staying on a gorgeous boat in the world's most beautiful harbour.
Thank you David!
We had a most enjoyable time.
David was a wonderful host, being considerate of our every need!
We will certainly recommend a trip on this beautiful yacht to anyone wanting to do something special.
We recently celebrated our son's 20th birthday on the yacht at Athol Bay. We had a wonderful time. David was a pleasure to deal with and the experience was one we'll never forget - awesome views on an fantastic boat. Highly recommended. We'll be back David.
