The Space

We used to live in Manhattan, and now we make Union City our home. Why? Larger apartments, as fast or faster to get into the city (faster than traveling on the express train from Harlem), and a great neighborhood vibe.

This apartment is not in Manhattan, it is located across the river from midtown Manhattan. Despite not being *in* Manhattan your commute in and out of the city is super easy and quite fast! You can get into and back from the city at any time of the day or night (it’s really 24/7) with one easy bus that takes 15-20 minutes. You will also be close by and easily access Hoboken (birthplace of Frank Sinatra and BASEBALL! as well as of course, Carlos the Cake Boss), MetLife Stadium, Meadowlands Convention Center, etc. There’s a ton of transit options into the city including my personal favorite, the “chicken bus” which runs 24/7 every 5 minutes - also the ferry (expensive for daily commutes but a beautiful experience), Uber (rates from $20-$40 depending on surge pricing), PATH trains (will take you longer to get to the train station then the local bus will take to get you to Times Square, but it is an option) and of course the normal NJ Transit buses, of which there are 40 lines that run through our area into the city. Transportation in and out of the city is not a problem if you choose to stay with us.

* Real home.
* Fast dependable wifi
* Private keypad code for you only, one key for building.
* 24/7 super easy access to Manhattan, buses go every 2 min, $3 per trip
* Walk home from bus or walk in neighborhood safely, very low crime area
* Supermarket, cafe con leche, fresh bread, pharmacy, fast food and sit down restaurants, city skyline view all in walking distance.
* Real beds for six people, fold down futon and air beds for extras
* Digital grand piano, if you play

We hope that you'll come stay with us and discover for yourself how crazy it is to be in a different state, but yet so close that it takes you only 15 minutes to get into Times Square.

Additional Details:
Main floor apartment, so a few steps up from street, but then it’s all on one level. Wide hallway in apartment. Bedrooms at back, living room and separate family room at front.

FOR FAMILIES: Babies and kids are considered guests and are to be included in the guest count.

ABOUT PAYMENT: Many ask about the price and extra fees and how to pay. When you put in the dates and number of people you will get our total cost. There are no taxes on top of this, but AirBnB adds their fee. It varies between 6-12% on top of our price.

All the payments are safely made with credit card to AirBnB when booking. They hold the money until the day you check in and will then transfer it to us.

Bookings with us are done with the "strict" cancellation policy and all cancellations should be done through AirBnB. This being said, if we manage to re-rent the place the nights you have canceled we can give a bigger refund to you than what the strict cancellation policy dictates. The earlier you cancel the bigger the chance that we will find other guests.

To confirm that you have read the entire description, please include the secret word "rockefeller" in your inquiry to me.

Parking: There are three options for parking. 1) Covered municipal lot two blocks away, you can buy ticket for up to 72 hours at a time. 2) Street parking. This is tricky, as there are lots of meters around, so you’ll have to be very careful. Let us know if you decide to park on the street, as we’ll provide you with a visitor permit ($25 deposit, held until permit is returned 3) reserved parking spot across the street at our neighbors place, this is $10 per day.

We must ask that all guests checkout no later than 11am. We are happy to help you coordinate luggage storage in Manhattan if needed but we change our codes after check out time, and we need the time after checkout to prepare the house for the next guests.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

Guest Access

Full kitchen, the entire apartment, wifi, emergency key in lockbox, little terrace for outdoor smoking.

Interaction with Guests

I want to make sure that guests have a fully private experience, so I am not at all in your hair. If you need help, I live really close and I'm always around, so I'll be as available as you want me to be! Maybe we can sit and have coffee together and I can help you plan your itinerary or you can call me if you need anything.

The Neighborhood

We are not in Manhattan, that is evident.

Union City is a vibrant multicultural community and a funny bit of trivia - our town is the 37th most populous city (per capita) in the world! We are home to a large Cuban population that lives side by side with a large Hasidic community. It probably looks different from your own neighborhood, and you'll likely hear more Spanish then English - but don't worry at all - you can walk home from the bus at any time of the day or night without worrying about your safety. Some guests have thought that our area looks like Queens - maybe so, but I like being west of the Hudson River.

You have two choices of buses - one is the NJ Transit bus which picks up and drops off one block away (west of the apartment) and you also have the super efficient "chicken bus" which is six blocks away, but runs every 5 minutes.

Both bus options drop you at Port Authority Bus terminal in Manhattan, right next to Times Square (Read further down for more details about transportation).

Getting Around

Important things to note about the area:
* We are not in Manhattan, but we are very close.
* The buses that run every 5 minutes, 24/7 take cash only, no tickets, no passes. The Manhattan "metrocard" does not work on this bus, it's a different system altogether. This is important to know when you are planning your budget. The bus is $3 per trip.

If you plan on taking a taxi home from NYC, be prepared for an expensive ride, as you have to pay the toll ($14) for the taxi to return to NYC. You may also pay an additional surcharge as the taxi cannot pick up a return fare in another state, so you may be charged a fee for the return trip. Uber is a much better option, it's cheaper than the city cabs.
Super easy public transit, buses run 24/7 every day.

About Transportation: I have received many questions from people who don't believe it possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation:

1. Apartment is 5 minutes (6 blocks) from the 24/7 bus to Times Square and 1 block from the city bus (stops at 1am).
2. The bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will step to the bus stop and a bus will be there.
3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out.
4-The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, cash - the driver can make change.
5. You won't find these buses timetable or route on the internet, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan

Other Things to Note

Once the booking is complete I will email you additional details including options for travel from airport, bus stations, etc. When you arrive at the apartment you'll find an info binder with specific info on how to take the bus, where to go grocery shopping, cool places I love in the city, nice walks to see the view etc. It is important to me that you have a great vacation and a relaxing time, so don't worry too much about the small details as we will make sure you are comfortable with how things work so that you can have a stress free holiday.

Lots of great restaurants a few blocks away. You can even bring your own wine! The apartment is close to Bergenline Street where there are lots of small restaurants, shops, fast food, etc.
