We live in the heart of The Hawthorne neighborhood with our two dogs, Umi & Inqui. We are 10 mins drive from the airport and walking distance to trendy shops, New Seasons, major supermarket, awesome restaurants and everything Portlandia.
Our home is a quaint 3 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath bungalow style. We are offering to rent out the entire house. It can sleep six comfortably. The house offers three bedrooms. Two with queen beds and one with a futon. One of the bedrooms is in the full size attic. While we have an AC that typically keeps the room cool it does get hot up there once the temperature hits above 85 degrees.
Our home is located on an quiet and awesome dead end street where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or book while sitting on the porch. We are literally around the corner from Hawthorne Blvd. and all buses.
What we can provide:
Real comfy bed, pillow(s) and linens, towels, free Wifi, common areas (full kitchen and living room).
Our home is clean, spacious and full of positive energy. The kitchen and living room can be used as common areas. So long as you're tidy and clean up after yourself this house can be your vacation home in Portland.
Our neighborhood is centrally located to various spots that are easily accessible via public transportation, car or taxi such as:
Downtown Portland/ Museums and shops:
10 mins drive by car or 20 mins by bus
15 mins drive by car or 30 mins by bus
The Pearl District:
10 mins drive by car or 20 mins by bus
Two huge parks where you can in enjoy a hike, tennis, basketball or just a stroll:
5 mins drive by car or 10/20 mins walk depending on the park
(Mt. Tabor Park (hiking trails) is up the hill and Laurahurst is 20 min. walk)
We are hosting guest(s) (max 6 guests/night) from July 15th - August 2nd. We are looking for a family or mature group that would like to book for all 18 nights.
Our Guest(s) Preferences and Expectations:
Mature, not-party animals (obnoxious noise level after 9 pm is frowned upon in my neighborhood), non-smoker, easy-going, drama-free, tidy, respectful.
We have two dogs that will be coming with us and as dog lovers we welcome well-behaved pooches who will be walked and not disturb the neighbors with their barking.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For security reasons I will only approve reservations that contain a photo and are Airbnb verified. It's simple, even if you're new to Airbnb. Recommendations from friends/family are also welcomed. :)
What makes our home unique is that you will have a home while in Portland.
We ask that guest be respectful of our home and keep it neat.
Please let us know your morning schedule as will need to coordinate bathroom usage.
The half bath is for use with the private room. It does not have a shower.
The TV area is upstairs where the private room is. This is a common area and while we watch minimal TV we will spend some time upstairs watching it.
Umi and Inqui, our two Shih Tzus are quiet, very friendly, and well behaved. If you are a dog lover you will love them. If you do not like dogs this is not the place for you. If you simply tolerate dogs this also may not be the best place to stay as they are loving pets and will want to say hello and perhaps even play.
Please note that we work hard to keep our house looking, feeling and smelling clean. Our dogs are always groomed and bathed however on especially rainy weeks long haired dogs don't do well. We HATE homes that smell like dogs but once in blue moon we succumb to that problem. It is not because they are dirty or unkept it is simply chemistry but we do all we can to make sure they are not stinky and neither is our home.
Jocelyn was a great host -- didn't get to spend much time with Ted since he was away for the week. I enjoyed getting to know her, at least on my last day there! The room was nice and private up in the attic, nice also have a bathroom of my own (though not a shower), and the neighborhood was really great. I would definitely recommend this place, though one thing that was a slight problem was that my key sometimes didn't work in the front door. Luckily Jocelyn was home and could open the door for me! But that's my only word of caution. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Ted and Jocelyn were very friendly and extremely quiet. I was gone from 8:00am to 8:00 pm almost every night so I didn't see much of anyone. The house is quite small and the kitchen even smaller. Do not plan to cook here. The attic room I was given had the feel that it was someone else's room -not really even a guest room. The dresser was filled with clothes so I lived out of my suitcase for a week. I did have my own bathroom with a toilet and wash basin but I shared the downstairs shower. The bed was too soft for my liking and the pillows too big. I hit a hot spell in Portland so the room got up to about 85 degrees. There was a small air-conditioner, not quite flush with the window frame (ie. there was outside air coming in)but there was a fan over the bed that kept me cool enough. This was my first airbnb experience and I realize that I definitely need my own space equipped with a private shower and kitchen. This place was inexpensive, the hosts were friendly and they have two cute dogs but I would not choose this shared type of accommodation again.
Can't say anything bad about this place. The hosts were nice, the location was great, bed was comfortable, and two really cute dogs. Would definitely stay there again!
Ted & Jocelyn were perfect hosts. The room was very comfortable and a good size, we also had our own toilet and wash basin which came in handy! Easy to access the centre of town (and all the distilleries!) as bus stop is 5 minutes walk. Jocelyn was very insightful about Portland attractions and the locals ;)
Thanks for a lovely stay, Jay & Hannah.
It was a pleasure to stay with Ted and Jocelyn. I went to Portland for a conference and wanted accommodations that were nearby, economical, comfortable, and more or less private. Their place gave me all that I needed. The two of them were very welcoming and personable, while going on with their lives as usual and giving me space to do what I needed to do. They communicated with me by email and phone prior to my arrival, making sure I had the information I needed to find their place and that they would be there to greet me.
The room Ted and Jocelyn have to offer is upstairs, adjacent to a common area where there is a TV, but still rather removed from the main part of the house. (They watched TV a little while I was there, but the volume was very low and it wasn't at all disturbing to me and I'm pretty sensitive to sound.) There is a half bath with no shower off the common room. The bed was very comfortable, but on the soft side. Both the room and the neighborhood were very quiet. A short walk down Hawthorne will take you to some interesting shops, a great natural food store, and a coffee shop.
They do have two dogs and there was a familiar dog odor in the house, but they are well behaved and quiet. If you're a dog person, you'll probably like them.
It's not a fancy place, but it's clean, comfortable, and quiet. And you'll meet two lovely people!
