We returned to Ken and Alejandra's house on the last night of our Costa Rica holiday and they both made us extremely welcome. Ken even invited us into his home so my son could watch the big boxing fight. The boxing was very disappointing but chatting to Alejandra and Ken was a pleasure. We had a chance to explore the gardens this time and they are beautiful. Ken has clearly put a great deal of time and effort into designing and building this lovely house and gardens.
Pick up and delivery to finca was completed well seeing flight was 2 hours delayed. Alehandra geeted me with warm smile and a hug. The accommodation was a challenge to get to especially with luggage, not to mention having pack it bach up hill. The morning breakfast was fantastic with gorgeous view. Tours were arranged for Poas volcano and coffee tour with driver who picked up at the airport. He spoke no English, none, nada!! The room was spacious but dated. There was construction going on during early day till late afternoon. My biggest complaint was lack of dining anywhere close, at least I was not told of any. I do want to end on a positive and that was the massage I received fron Chandra. Most professionally delivered in a very sensory (music, candles & incense) way, may have been best I ever had. So if you don't mind the isolation, high up in mountain this is place for you!
My family met up and stayed one night at Paradise B&B at the start of our Costa Rica holiday and it was beautiful. Our youngest daughter arrive first and she was picked up from the airport and taken horse riding (apparently the horse did not speak very good English!)
We arrived after dark and they met us at the car rental and showed us the route in. Alejandra could not have been a better host. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic and we are all looking forward to going back there at the end of our holiday and spending more time in the gardens.
Lovely. Thanks Paul.
This is a beautiful place with beautiful grounds. We stayed there for one night before we drove down to uvita. It's not particularly near the airport as advertised and it's very difficult to find. The gps coordinates took us to the wrong place, it took us an hour and 15 minutes to find it but we got there eventually. Generally, directions are difficult in Costa Rica. It's all very "turn left at the big tree" an then you come across several big trees. In this case it was the Orange and black gate that we were looking for, but many people have orange and black gates, so it was pretty confusing. The host was lovely as was Franklin the dog. Breakfast was great with some very tasty homemade cornbread. Now I know where it is, I would definitely stay there again
We had a very nice time at Paradise B&B. We stopped here twice during our stay in Costa Rica while we were transferring between other areas of the country. Both times we were welcomed so graciously and treated like family. In addition, this spot in San Jose is beautiful and great to be out of the heart of the city but still close to the airport. They were so accommodating and helped us with everything we needed. The rooms are very comfortable and I don't think we have ever slept in a quieter location. The gardens are also elaborate and a joy to walk through in the morning.
This place is quite beautiful indeed. The neighborhood is beyond quiet which is just what we were looking for. Unfortunately, my husband and I were put off by a few things at this location. The amenities listed were not available to us and we were never notified in advanced about it, which according to airbnb is grounds alone for a refund. The pool and spa area were under construction which was a major downer as it was one of the top reasons we selected this place. We were accused of holding up the taxi shuttle back to the aiport/car rental for 45 mins and were told we owed them an additional $24 which wasn't the case at all. The taxi, who waited on his own accord, was only on standby for maybe 15-20 mins. I can't understand why he would lie, but he did. The breakfast was not as spectacular as some of the previous reviews have insisted. It was actually quite limited. And lastly there are no phones in the rooms, which is totally fine except for when you're in the main house and need to communicate with someone down in one of the villas. Also, no big deal, however I needed to ask my husband what time he'd like to check out before I confirmed with the help. I was asked what time I'd like the taxi to arrive and when I'd like to check out. I told her 11am may work but I would like to check with my husband first and to please wait for me to confirm. I walked down, simply asked him what his desire was, and walked back up to tell her we would in fact like to stay until noon (which is the official checkout time). She said we could not stay until noon because she simply wanted to leave. I'm sure the owners of this place mean well but we did not truly enjoy our experience here.
Our stay at Finca Paraiso was lovely. The property is beautiful and the view from the suite and the home is amazing. The breakfast Alejandra and Tamara made in the mornings was yummy, as well. This was a nice spot for our last couple days in Costa Rica, before flying out of SJO.
About the Host, Ken
My wife and I are retired traveling business people who have travelled almost all over the world. We appreciate quality accommodation with affordable prices. We enjoy socializing and meeting people from all over the world and making friends. We like to travel too and we use our place as a home exchange as well. With this in mind, we have built this B&B Spa which we call Finca Paraiso, "Paradise Estate" for its beautiful surroundings, fresh mountain air, tranquility while still close to San Jose and the international airport. We think of our guests as people with good taste who demand high quality accommodation, excellent service in both breakfast and Spa treatments and who seek a place to relax while enjoying the mountain activities near us, such as horseback riding, Poas Volcano, bird watching, or just to have a great dining experience at restaurants about 15 minutes from us. . Our standard amenities are free airport pickup, continental breakfast, fresh cut flowers, a basket of fruit and bottled water in each room. We offer a happy hour either wine or beer!
