Description

The Space

=====SPACE::
Private: a cozy, private room in the heart of the beautiful & charming original Faubourg Marigny. this is just THREE blocks from Frenchmen Street, with a treehouse view, French doors, a supercomfy queen mattress on a modern, platform bed, & dog kisses, should you want them. (NOTE: this room has French doors with added privacy curtains; it is private, & unlike a shotgun, no one will be walking through your room to access anything. you will share a bathroom & occasionally encounter me or other guests as you go about your day, but degree of interaction is entirely up to you, much like roommates. in a pinch the air mattress can provide accommodations for a third guest, but please chat with me about this prior to booking.)

*Architectural Information: like many houses of this period, although this is newly renovated, a transom exists in the north wall of this room: a detailed, finished, & trimmed, open space exists near the ceiling. these are originally designed to allow air/temperatures to circulate & equalize among rooms, so that no one space is too hot. however, in current day New Orleans, the house is kept cooled at all times, & you also have an individual AC unit & fans in your room.

=====HOUSE & PARKING::
this is a recently renovated, 2nd-floor, camel-back above a historic, double-shotgun home, with all wood & stone floors, & gorgeous courtyard/tropical views below from the deck at our entrance in the rear. very clean, peaceful, & secure environment. free, residential, on-street parking, some shaded, available in front.

Guest Access

fresh, clean linens, blankets, towels, a stuffed fruit bat, & seven pillows are provided. natural, plant-based detergents are used. simple breakfast items (bread, butter, jam, etc.) & coffee are here (just let me know), as well as plenty of home-brewed peppermint iced tea.

powerful house AC & softly filtered light allow for naps at any time of day, & curtains are an adjustable slidey combination of blackouts for late sleepers, &/or sheers for natural light. your room is equipped with two windows, one with individual brand-new window AC with thermostat, a stainless percolator (with fresh locally roasted coffee, tea bags, organic, local raw sugar, & mugs), BRITA water filter, dresser with drawers, nightstand, Bluetooth lamp with dimmable & programmable multicolored, changing lights, clock, multicolored oceanic ceiling light display, Bluetooth/3.5mm input speaker with cord, adjustable ceiling fan with light, box fan with thermostat, oscillating room heater with thermostat, lounge & stadium chairs, grounded, ceramic surge protector, hi-speed USB charging outlets, night light, cubby cubes, steam iron, towel rack, & tailor's rack with hangers for storage, rain ponchos & umbrellas to borrow. Netflix, Fandor, & HuluPlus account to enjoy on your downtime. shared kitchen with new, modern, appliances, oven, toaster oven, microwave, toaster, French press, water purifier, & cabinet/refrigerator space accessible to guests at certain hours; large dining nook. large, open guest shelf in bathroom, & guest storage space in shower for personal items.

Interaction with Guests

=====PLANNING:
i live on site, & am delighted to assist with as much or as little itinerary planning as you would like. additionally, there are books of maps & tour information, as well as menus from many of our delicious local restaurants, & frequently updated lists of current events & festivals. recent issues of all our local publications are provided as well, as are official Louisiana & New Orleans tour & planning guidebooks. lists of local music events & festivals are maintained & posted. want to try out any number of daily free, citywide, social bike rides & see what you may not otherwise, all from a very local perspective? i know just where to find them. ((:

The Neighborhood

=====LOCATION:
it's just three blocks to all the hot-spots, live music, restaurants, & excitement of Frenchmen Street, the Riverfront, & Lower Decatur, while to our immediate opposite side is the quite notoriously eclectic arts & music district, the Bywater. a few short blocks along Frenchmen will lead you into the French Quarter, the Mississippi Riverfront, the world-famous French Market, & a ferry to Algiers Point. it;s so close to the Quarter, you can even make use of the pedi-cab service (hirable bike taxi) both ways. we are just 2 blocks from the closest airport shuttle location, 1/4 mile from the interstate exit, & 1/2 block from a major city bus line. these neighborhoods are within just minutes of pleasant strolling or biking as well. neighborhood music clubs (including many of the most famous), cafés, coffee houses, restaurants, live theater, burlesque venues, picture house, gourmet brick-oven pizza (available by the slice), a gym, yoga & fitness center, spa massage, package liquor, a food co-op, washeteria, community parks, 24-hour pubs, a 24-hour organic grocery & deli, fast food, beauty salon, gas station, & national drug store, are all within 5 blocks. another five blocks includes a public library, herbal healing center, country/swim club with a jacuzzi & heated saline pool, sno-ball stand, & historic cemetery to the mix. thrift/antique stores & art galleries abound. this location has plenty of nearby international dining options for those interested in more than Creole & Cajun fare, & some great vegetarian options as well, of which i know *nearly* all. ((:

Getting Around

it;s so close to the Quarter, you can even make use of the pedi-cab service (hirable bike taxi) both ways. we are just 2 blocks from the closest airport shuttle location, 1/4 mile from the interstate exit, & 1/2 block from a major city bus line.
=======

**PUBLIC::
multiple citywide public transit options (buses & streetcars) are available in just 1/2 to 2 blocks should you choose not to walk or rent the bikes that day. the closest bus, heads straight along the length of the Bywater Arts District, the Marigny (us), & the neighboring French Quarter & Treme'; this line in only 10 minutes' ride terminates in the heart of the entire city, where nearly all conferences, sports, concerts, festivals, & conventions are held, with direct transport access to Magazine Street, the historic universities, the Superdome, NO Arena, EM convention center, car rental stations, & train station, as well as the direct airport transit bus. multi-passes available from drivers.

**PRIVATE:: *UBER cruises our immediate neighborhood continuously at all hours, & pick-up takes 1-3 minutes; a trip crossing the entire French Quarter is generally $5. *Pedi-Cab bike taxis will drop off or pick up within the Marigny & are a charming, especially romantic, & very relaxing way to experience the beauty & charm of Old New Orleans.

=====PARKING::
free, residential street parking is available for blocks in all directions, much of it shaded.

=====BIKES:
you will notice the majority of the people you encounter everywhere in these areas riding bicycles all hours of the day & night; the city is flat, & these neighborhoods simply perfect for biking with their cozy & historic one-way streets. two well-maintained cruiser bikes with locks, official bike maps, & safety lights can be rented as follows, (first-reserved/first-served) each:

*$10 / single day, or
*$20 / entire stay.

...plus an additional, FULLY REFUNDABLE security deposit (cash or card); just ask!! ((: {no claims necessary in all 3 years.}

Other Things to Note

=====DOGGIE:
the apartment is occupied by me & my very sweet, sociable, & well-behaved, 6yo, medium-sized, bully-mix dog. she sleeps with me, but is happily available for petting or snuggling, & has been a very beloved guest favorite; see the reviews for plenty of information. she is very short haired, single coated, flea-free, & enjoys frequent bathing & dental care. she has her own kennel for when i am out if she is not with me on the bike. you do not have to *love* dogs, but you should probably just be comfortable around a social, easygoing, obedient, & very lovable dog. (:

=====MISC::
flexible hours; can accommodate all types of schedules; no curfews. last-minute reservations happily accepted when possible. check out my semi-private space listing as well; discounts available if both listings booked together. see you soon! ((-:

this location has a shared-space listing as well, with a privacy-curtained loft bed, which may be booked by one or two guests; you will occasionally encounter them as you go about your day, however your room is private & accessible to NO ONE but you; private. (the kitchen is adjacent to their space, so if it is occupied, filming Iron Chef: Breakfast Edition at 6am is probably a pretty bad idea. however, your coffee service & filtered water are within your room, & you are certainly welcome to enjoy meals in there as well. otherwise, their curtains provide as much privacy as they would like around their space.)

***WEEKLY RATES: just ask for a weekly discount! however, those rates do not apply during festivals/holidays, but a similar discount will happily be given.
