The Space

=====SPACE::
Private: a cozy, private room in the heart of the beautiful & charming original Faubourg Marigny. this is just THREE blocks from Frenchmen Street, with a treehouse view, French doors, a supercomfy queen mattress on a modern, platform bed, & dog kisses. (NOTE: this room has French doors with added privacy curtains; it is completely private, & unlike a shotgun, no one will be walking through to access anything. the air mattress can provide accommodations for a third guest, but please chat with me about this prior to booking.)

=====LOCATION::
it's just three blocks to all the hot-spots, live music, restaurants, & excitement of Frenchmen. a few short blocks along there lead you into the French Quarter, the Mississippi Riverfront, the world-famous French Market, & a ferry to Algiers Point. it's so close you can even make use of the pedi-cab (hirable bike taxi) service both ways. we are just 2 blocks from the closest airport shuttle location, 1/4 mile from the interstate exit, & 1/2 block from a major city bus line heading straight along the length of the neighboring French Quarter & Treme', or oppositely heading deep into the Bywater Arts District, but these neighborhoods are just minutes of walking or biking as well. multiple other citywide public transit options are available in just 1 - 3 blocks should you choose not to walk or rent the bikes. neighborhood music clubs, cafés, coffee houses, restaurants, live theater/comedy/burlesque venues, gourmet brick-oven pizza (available by the slice), a gym, yoga & fitness center, spa massage, package (email hidden)-op, washeteria, community parks, 24-hour pubs, a 24-hour organic grocery & deli, fast food, beauty salon, gas station, & national drug store, are all within 5 blocks. another five blocks adds a public library, country/swim club with a heated saltwater pool, sno-ball stand, & historic cemetery to the mix. thrift/antique stores & art galleries abound. this location has plenty of nearby international dining options for those interested in more than Creole & Cajun fare, & some great vegetarian options as well, of which i know *nearly* all. ((:

=====PLANNING::
i live on site, & am delighted to assist with as much or as little itinerary planning as you would like. to help you plan, there are books of maps & tour information, as well as menus from many of our delicious local restaurants, and frequently updated lists of current events & festivals. current issues of all our local publications are provided as well. Want to try out any number of free, citywide social bike rides? i know just where to find them. ((:

=====HOUSE::
this is a recently renovated, 2nd-floor, camel-back above a historic, double-shotgun home, with all wood & stone floors, & gorgeous courtyard/tropical views below from the deck at our entrance in the rear. very clean, peaceful, & secure environment. free, shaded, residential, on-street parking in front.

fresh, clean linens, blankets, towels, a stuffed puppy, & four pillows are provided, as well as a new, memory foam mattress pad; natural, plant-based detergents are used. simple breakfast items (fruits, bread, oatmeal, butter, jam, etc.) & milk, juice, & coffee are here, as well as plenty of home-brewed peppermint iced tea.

powerful house AC & softly filtered light allow for naps at any time of day, & curtains are an adjustable slidey combination of blackouts for late sleepers &/or sheers for natural light. your room is equipped with two windows, individual brand-new window AC, stainless percolator (with fresh local coffee, tea bags, organic raw sugar, coconut milk, & mugs), BRITA water filter, dresser, nightstand, lamp, clock, ceiling fan with light, box fan, space heater, lounge chair, grounded surge protector, hi-speed USB outlet, night light, cubby cubes, steam iron, towel rack, & tailor's rack for storage. Kitchen with new, modern, appliances, oven, toaster oven, microwave, toaster, French press, water purifier, & cabinet/refrigerator space accessible to guests; large dining nook. large, open guest shelf in bathroom, & guest storage space in shower for personal items.

=====BIKES::
two well-maintained, cruiser bikes with locks, official bike maps, helmets, & safety lights can be rented as follows, (first-reserved/first-served) each:

*$10 / single day, or
*$20 / entire stay.

...plus an additional, fully refundable security deposit; just ask!! ((:

=====DOGGIE::
the apartment is occupied by me & my very sweet, sociable, & well-behaved, 5-year-old, medium-sized dog, Poochini. she sleeps with me, but is happily available for petting or snuggling, & has been a very popular guest favorite; see the reviews for plenty of information. she is very short haired & has her own kennel for when i am out if she is not with me on the bike, which is often. you do not have to *love* dogs, but you should probably just be comfortable around an easygoing & lovable dog. <3

=====MISC::
flexible hours; can accommodate all types of schedules; no curfews. last-minute reservations happily accepted when possible. check out my semi-private listing as well; discounts available if both listings booked together. see you soon! ((-:

this location has a shared-space listing as well, with a privacy-curtained loft bed, which may be booked by one or two guests; you will be briefly passing through that space into yours, which is completely private. (the kitchen is part of that large room, so if it is occupied, filming Iron Chef: Breakfast Edition at 6am is probably a bad idea. otherwise, their curtains provide as much privacy as they would like around their loft bed.)

***the G-map view shows construction on brick building across the street; this is now fully completed & landscaped.

  • Yvonne is very friendly. Great location

  • Yvonne and James are very nice people and were very helpful in making our 4-day trip to New Orleans a total success. The room was great, clean and comfy, the location awesome (we could literally walk to everything within 15 minutes). Also the bike rental was totally cool and saved us a lot of time. Poochini is the sweetest dog on the northern hemisphere and you just have to love her and her sweet and calm character. We fell in love with New Orleans and will return again. We will definitely look into booking ourselves with Yvonne again.
    Simple as that.

  • Easy: 10/10.
    From the beginning, the very first email I exchanged with Yvonne, to the end, saying good bye from the bus stop. It is not hard to say that I consider her and her place 100% recommendable.
    The room is gorgeous, cozy, large... The big bed, really really comfortable (slept like a baby!), the temperature is perfect (go AC!) and she makes sure you will have plenty of anything you might need and even more: coffee machine for yourself, a large and clean set of towels...
    And this fantastic house is owned by a fantastic host. Yvonne is just wonderful. Her folder with maps and recommended restaurants is something that can help you a lot! She will encourage you to take one of her bikes -for a ridiculous price- and that is something you should listen to. NOLA is a great place for bikes and actually you can reach places with them that otherwise would need a looong walk. It is a flat city so biking is very recommended for a swift and non-stop visit all around the city.
    The location of the house is just fantastic. Couldn't be better. Located in a really beautiful and safe street, close to the French Quarter, Frenchmen's st., the Bywater, Decatur st.
    I just felt at home and that is not something you usually say when you're abroad!
    This will be the place I'll use in my next visit, hands down.
    Thanks for everything!
    P.S.: if James is around (her bf), it will just be twofold the same thing. As helpful, fun and nice as Yvonne. They make a really lovely couple of hosts that will make you feel at home.
    P.S.2: Poochini is an extremely friendly, smart and nice dog. She will be friends with you from minute 1! The best complement to a fantastic house and owners!

  • Yvonne, James and Poochini were great hosts. She really is a professional and has all your bases covered.

    The house is an easy short walk to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter. You really can't find a better location for the price. Yvonne has plenty of suggestions and provides you with local publications, maps and menus for most of the areas establishments.

    As far as the accommodations go, they are definitly cramped quarters and not completely private. While the bedroom is closed off from the rest of the apartment, there is a large opening (for air circulation
    or maybe just decorative) in the top of the wall dividing the "living room" which is James and Yvonne's bedroom. I didn't realize that during booking and wish I had.

    That being said, the bed was very comfortable and you have designated space for personal belongings and clean towels in the shared bathroom. There is coffee and tea in the room, an iron and plenty of storage and sitting space.

    I would definitely recommend a stay with Yvonne and the gang!

    Added bonus: Poochini snuggles and kisses!

  • We had a great stay at Yvonne's apartment. It was comfortable, conveniently located, and well taken care of by Yvonne. She was very helpful and informative, and we had good conversations with her. Her dog was also very friendly. We enjoyed our time there and would stay again should we visit the area once more.

  • We loved our stay with Yvonne! The neighborhood was safe, it is close to all of the good stuff (we were able to walk everywhere), the A/C kept our bedroom nice and cool. The water pressure in the shower was great (which means a lot when you are out all day in the NOLA weather!). Yvonne and James were the greatest hosts, and helped us with any question we had. Poochini is adorable and we miss her already! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in New Orleans.

  • We stayed with Yvonne and James for a week and had a great time. The bedroom is comfortable, cool and quiet. The bathroom is clean. Yvonne and James are super accommodating and flexible, pay a lot of attention to every aspect of your stay (e.g. providing evening snacks and space to leave your stuff in the bathroom, making the bed). We used two bikes all week. Great way to get around, and with our hosts' guidance we found some local gems for eating and drinking, allowing us to escape some of the madness of the tourist areas when we wanted to. That said, Treehouse is close to everything and the neighborhood felt safe day and night. Yvonne and James are fun to talk to, and Poochini is the best!

  • Some people are people people. Some dogs are people people too. Yvonne, her wonderful fiance, and Puccini the dog are definitely all the sorts of people who should be hosting guests. It's a testament to their awesomeness that after a day of being crammed into various airplanes, their warm welcome was enough to make me forget the uncomfortable seats and car rental people. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. The room also had wonderful tea and coffee and was well air conditioned. Yvonne, who is wonderfully well prepared, also keeps an extensive binder of area restaurant menus, extra umbrellas, and probably a few other useful things that I'm missing because I don't quite have the host brain.

  • You'll be glad you stayed here! Yvonne & her partner James are super fantastic hosts and their apartment is bang on. We spent 6 days here in the private room and felt right at home. Only a couple of blocks to Frenchman St & within walking distance to the French quarter. Be sure to take advantage of renting a bike off Yvonne it will make you feel like a local breezing down the streets of NOLA & Yvonne's knowledge of New Orleans is endless.

    Can't not recommend this place enough! We loved it heaps & would definitely stay here again :D

  • Yvonne is an airbnb pro. She is super nice, helpful, and knowledgable. Her place is within walking distance to the quarter and a few blocks from Frenchmen St. We were there for a week, and loved it. Also, her dog, Poochini, is adorable and so sweet. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay while visiting New Orleans, look no further!
