About This Listing
Silent vacation on the slopes of a vulcano in a loveley renovated Winehouse,
in the middle of the vineyards of the Nemzeti Nationalpark.
Unique panorama of Lake Balaton and valley of vulcanos, below the mystic ruins of Csobànc castle.
An outstanding place of peace and pure nature...
The remote winehouse (ideal for a couple) offers a rustic kitchen with fire wood oven and a winecellar in the basement. (winetasting of Kenric`s latest harvest possible) The first floor offers a small, but cute bathroom and an extendable couch made for two little kids or one adult), and a living room with a big doubble bed (180 X 210 cm) and a fire wood oven. We offer hot filtered rainwater for showering (no drinking water) powered by a gas boiler, solar energy, hifi music tower plus CD-collection and internet connection. Towles, bedsheeds, pillows and blankets are included.
The lovley tuscan-like rolling landscape offers activities like hiking, cycling, paragliding on top of the Csobanc vulcano, horse riding, sailing, regional wine tastings and lots of sun bathing at the beaches of lake balaton (distance approx. 6 kilometers). Information for that you will find in a folder on the desk.
Within the distance af one kilometer you reach Gyulakeszi where you can find a grocery shop, post office, bar, and bus station from were you can take the bus to lake Balaton or elsewere. In Tapolca (3 k) you will find nice restaurants like Gabriella, Pura vida, Peppino, big supermarkets like Tesco, cafés, a nice cave to visit, and a disco.
Csamandula is closed in winter and will reopen the 14. of april 2015
Guests have exclusive private access to the whole winehouse Casamandula, the terrace and the big wild garden. Behind the house you have a private parking lot.
First floor and ground floor are connected by a outdoor stairway which can be illuminated at night.
Casamandula is reachable by car using a half a mile long, partly steep, bumpy, gravel road. If necessary your car can also be parked 200 feet below the house in easy walking distance. If you drive up the road to Casamandula make sure you drive slowly giving way to those who come down. So far all the guests managed to drive up and down easily even under wet conditions.
Renata or Kenric will meet you next to the big, yellowish church in Gyulakeszi in order to show you the way up to Casamandula. The poor and romantic road conditions are the "price" guests have to "pay" in order to enjoy the uniqueness of Casamandulas panorama.
You will be mesmerized...
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes Kenric is staying in the house next door (approx. 50 meters away) in order to take care of his vineyard and garden. He won`t disturb your privacy. The terrace of Casamandula is remote, hidden and private. But If you should need help, have questions or want to talk or try a wine feel free to come. It is a pleasure for me to meet new people.
We provide you with a map that shows you the way up to the stunning Csobànc castle (35 minutes walking time from Casamandula) or to the lower parking lot and other special places like the "ocean of vulcanic boulder blocks and oaktrees"...
Csobánc is safe at night. Hungarians are friendly people. Means that no one has ever been attaced so far. But make sure the house and car is always locked. Otherwise something might be stolen.
Within 10 to 15 minutes from Casamandula you reach the closest village Gyulakeszi by foot. If you want to go to Balaton or to nice restaurants I recommend the car. There are busses departing from Gyulakesi to Tapolca or Balaton. But they are a bit unreliable.
Other Things to Note
There is no hotwater-boiler in the kitchen. No guest had a problem with that so far because water for washing dishes or for tea can be heated up on the gasflames of the cooking unit instead.
We provide you with 1.5 liters of drinking water as a starter. Mor of it can be caught from a well in a distance of 600 meters. That saves money and plastic rubbish can be avoided.
There will be a minimum amount of chopped up, dry firewood (and firestarters) in order to heat the house immediately. If you need more firewood, you have to chop it outside by yourself with an axe (you find it in the cellar) on your own responsability!!. Make sure you pile the wood up under the roof or even inside where it can stay dry. Try not to waste firewood and precious rainwater please.
Neighbour Jennö and Ibi keep two free cruising dogs names Negro and Foltosch. They bark once you pass by but they do NOT byte. Keep cool! You can bring your own pets if you want.
Please try to save rain-water by avoiding long showers.
Please do not throw cigarettes into the garden.
Do not use candles or open fire inside the house. (you find one fire-extinguisher inside the cupboard in the living room and anotherone under the sink in the kitchen).
You can use the Weber-grill from the cellar (bring your own bbq - coals) outside or make a small fire outside on the appropriate fireplace. Make sure it is extinguished before you go to bed.
You can bring your pets or dogs. Neighbour Jennö has a black dog called Negro and his puppy Foltosch. They bark if you pass by walking or driving but they do not bite! So dont be afraid if they should come on your terrace once Jennö makes them run around.
There are some wild cats around. Most of them are born in the garden. Please try to be nice to them. They usually dont come if a dog is around.
Do not bring or use your hairdryer if it has more than 1000 Watt (fuses will be blown). We have a appropriate less powerful hair dryer for you.
Please do throw "things" into the dust bin and not into the toilette. It might clock up.
Make sure you always lock the windows and doors before you leave the house.
Casamandula is closed in winter and will reopen the 14. of april. Big welcome!
The accomodation you get is a fair back to basics (with a few minor adjustments for a bit of luxury). It is a clean, cosey, romantic place and just what you need to adjust your senses after being in the ratrace for so long… there are no words to describe the beauty of each day and night. Every sunset has a different feeling to it and every day gives you new oppertunities for more exploration. To bad our trip was only for a couple of days, we could have lived in that peacefull green vinyard oasis for a lot longer.
Casamandula was fantastic!
Highly recommended if you are looking for a rural place to relax. It is the perfect spot if you want to refresh your mind.
The neighbours' dog, Negro, is very friendly, very good with humans and other dogs as well.
It's been a pleasure spending time there.
Thanks a million to Renata, she is really lovely and helpful.

We had an amazing, albeit too short stay in Casamandula. Reni made us welcome and was very thoughtful leaving us a pack of bottled water to drink and cook with. The place is really sweet and the views are simply stunning! Our dog was the happiest of all, making friends with the neighboring winehouse guard. It is definitely a place to go by car, but you can find everything within 15-20 mins and great walking, hiking, sightseeing. We will definitely come back and recommend! Thank you Reni and Ken!
Casa Mendula is a breathtaking little property overlooking a valley full of wineries and rolling countryside. If you are looking for an experience- look no further. This is it! Do come prepared for 'country living' at it's best. Renata made checking-in very easy and was available to us during our stay.
I highly recommend that you arrive with everything you need, as we underestimated the difficulty of the drive up the country roads to the property and made a point during our stay to take as many trips down and back up as possible. The area has lots of hiking routes to explore and the people of Gyulakeszi are friendly. I'm glad we chose Casa Mendula and will recommend to family & friends.
We initially booked two nights at Casamandula and due to a change in our travel plans were able to stay 5 more nights. Casamandula was the highlight of our trip to Hungary. We do like to camp and this place had all the benefits one looks for in camping: isolation, beauty, and the ability to be outside most of the time combined with the luxuries of hot water, a very comfortable bed, a lovely wood stove on two colder nights and a kitchen. The road to the house was rutted and steep but we had no trouble navigating it in our rented economy car. Our car also allowed us to visit several surrounding villages, towns, hiking areas and a fabulous local "organic" market. We enjoy cooking our own food with local ingredients so didn't try to eat out at night. In fact, each day I looked forward to getting back to Casamandula to drink a few glasses of wine and sit on the stone deck overlooking the vineyards. If you have a stressful job, live in a city and want to get away from it all this is the perfect place.
Communication with Kendric was easy and reliabe and our arrival was well organized.
The wine house is just as described and was in great shape and very clean.
The location is absolutely wonderful, incredible views, peaceful surroundings and trails for immediate access. Ideal for nature lovers.
