  • We had a fabulous two week family vacation at Tribewanted Monestevole. We travelled in April and it was beautiful watching spring arrive. The farm animals were very entertaining for our family and there were multiple options of activities to participate in on a daily basis. During our time there were new piglets and ducklings that had arrived. We easily travelled on day trips to locations like Assis and Perugia (our hosts were very helpful and accommodating), but we happily spent most of our time on the farm). The apartment was well kept and had everything we needed. Everyone was extremely welcoming. The owners; Alessio, Valeria, Marisella and Filippo were fantastic. Marisella was our main contact when booking and was very helpful, suggesting flights/trains etc. and she even let us borrow a outlet converter when ours stopped working. Filippo picked us up and dropped us off at the train station. They made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. They made our family feel like an instant fit into 'the tribe'. Even staff that didn't speak English were very welcoming and made efforts to communicate with us. Andrea played with our son at every opportunity. Brad showed us around the farm/stables. Nury and Laura were very friendly and loved playing with our son as well. We really enjoyed our time spent around the kitchen and table. The food and housewine was delicious and plentiful. There was a lot of variety at each meal, even our 11 month old was happy with the options. The local features (olive oil, cheese, cured meats etc) were extremely tasty and just thoughts of the meals we had make my mouth water still. We also had special meals like a sunset BBQ in the vineyard, homemade pizzas at dusk at the outdoor pizza oven, and a wonderful meal at a local restaurant after a short hike from the house through the woods (led by our hosts). The upcoming pool opening looks like it is off to a great start, unfortunately we were a little early in the season to get to experience it. We would happily recommend staying at Tribewanted Montestevole.

Monestevole was originally built in the 15th century as a watch-tower for nearby Monestevole castle. Over the coming centuries, additional parts were added to the tower to develop it into the current borgo (hamlet) structure. It was used as a farmer’s borgo until the 1950’s when it was abandoned. In 1997 Alessio Giottoli and Valeria Cancian purchased the ruin and restored it for the next three years, to launch Agriturismo Monestevole, equipped with a music recording studio. The property sits at 600 meters on top of a hill surrounded by 47 hectares of olive groves, oak forests and a vineyard. It is near the town of Umbertide, 40 minutes away from Perugia, and 2 hours from Florence and Rome. Tribewanted has partnered with Alessio and Valeria to re-launch Monestevole as a sustainable community in the green heart of Italia.
