Situated on the ground floor of a 19th century townhouse, this open-space apartment is quiet and fun. It features hardwood floors, a small kitchen with direct access to the garden. There is a queen-sized bed as well as a comfortable futon, so four persons can easily stay in the apartment. There's also a nice-sized closet space and an empty chest of drawers.
The living room has a seating area with DirectTV and free Wifi. The kitchen has a gas range, a fridge, a microwave as well as basic utensils. The bathroom is spacious with quirky details. **The washer and dryer are currently not working!
The apartment is located in Historic Downtown Jersey City, just across the Hudson river from Manhattan (only 2 blocks from the Grove street PATH subway which offer direct and 24/7 access to Manhattan.). The neighborhood is safe and diverse with many charming restaurants and cafes as well as several delis convenient for grocery shopping. ShopRite supermarket ((website hidden)) and Newport Mall ((website hidden)) are a short 10-15 minute walk away.
The World trade Center is only 10 min away (just two stops on the Path), downtown New York (West Village) is 15 min away (Christopher St., 9th st or 14th st), Chelsea 20 min away (Path to 24th st) and Midtown 30 min away (Path to 33rd street)
For those who drive, the Holland tunnel is also near offering a quick connection to downtown Manhattan (7 min to Tribeca, when there's no traffic!)
Mercer Street is in the heart of Historic Downtown/Van Vorst areas of Jersey City anchored by the Grove Street PATH station. When not exploring Manhattan, there is much to do in Jersey City. These include:
* walking along the Hudson River Waterfront for great views of Manhattan or venturing over to Hoboken for the great bar scene
* checking out the great restaurants in the area
* visiting massive Liberty State Park which has ferry service to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
* taking the kids to the Liberty Science Center
* attending the Farmers' Market or the live music performances at Grove Square: (website hidden)
* shopping at the Newport Center Mall or the local boutiques scattered on Grove Street or finding a bargain at the flea market on Saturday's at Van Vorst Park
Take the PATH which operates 24/7 to Manhattan, Hoboken or Newark; there is no PATH service to the World Trade Center on weekends in 2014 due to rehabilitation work following Hurricane Sandy.
If flying in, Newark is the most convenient airport, followed by JFK. Please note that the best way to reach the apartment, especially from JFK is via mass transit. Taxis from JFK or LaGuardia are super expensive.
From Newark Airport: take the Airtrain to Newark Penn. From Newark Penn, take the PATH to Grove Street.
From JFK Airport: take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station, then take the Long Island railroad to NY Penn Station, exit the station and walk east to the PATH station at 33rd street and 6th avenue, take the PATH train to Grove Street.
From LaGuardia Airport: take combination bus/subway or taxi the PATH station at 33rd street/6th avenue.
We really enjoyed our stay in this great apt. Everything was as pictured and Bob and Francois were very obliging over the whole time. We would certainly book this apt. again :-)
Great basement apartment, spacious warm and cosy. Well located to access PATH to Manhattan. Francois met us as arranged, we really enjoyed our stay.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION ! You can't beat the price for how close it is to NYC. The apt was bigger than what I thought it was going to be for a stuido. I will stay there again for sure. The Host were easy to work with yet another great AIRBnB experiance
We rented the apartment for my parents extended visit and it was exactly as pictured. Very clean and spacious for a studio in the perfect location, just a few minutes walk to the Grove PATH station and right next door to all of the shops and restaurants on Grove St. Bob was there to greet us at check-in. Bob and Francois were so very accommodating and helpful when there were any issues or questions, and so easy to reach!
Everything was fine! :)
The apartment is in a quite place. It's clean, cosy and warm what is very important when it is cold outside (NY is a windy city).
Nearby is a small store with fruits & vegetables and other food.
The PATH (some sort of underground) is two blocks away from the apartment, it's only two stops from WTC and a few stops from Manhattan.
Tx, Bob & Francois :))
Bob and Francois were very cordial and helpful with setting everything up, they were very detailed! :) The apartment was beautiful and very quaint, also warm! (It had just snowed earlier that day).
Every detail was foreseen by these 2 wonderful hosts, and the location was perfect, very short walk to the path train and the fare was cheap. (Recommend getting the smart link PATH card)...
I would highly recommend this apartment to my friends or visiting relatives or anyone looking for convenience, cleanliness, friendliness and courteousness.
Bob and Francois were lovely hosts! We were originally booked with another Airbnb host however they cancelled and Bob and Francois took us in at the last minute and were very accommodating. The house was lovely and fully equipped. It was in a good location, very close to PATH and Manhattan. We would definitely book with them next time!
Thank you for making our first Airbnb experience wonderful! :)

Idealy situated very close to the PATH station of Grove street the apartment is very cosy and equiped with everything needed. the center town district is full of shops and restaurants. Newport Mall and its hundreds of shops is at 1 Path station or 15mn walk distance. It is a pleasure after an hectic day in Manhattan to come back is a more peacefull environment.
François welcomed us in a charming and well heated basement flat on a cold winter afternoon which is always appreciable. He also let us with a list of the best restaurants of the area. Most of them are within a 5 minutes radius from the apartment. So is the Path which will take you to the World Trade Center in 10 minutes or to the 33rd Street in approximately 20 minutes. If you are flying from Newark airport a taxi will take you there in 20 minutes and cost $42. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice and affordable place to stay while visiting New York.
I had a great time in this apartment. It is spacious, clean, and warm, in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Very close to PATH station. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Francois is very friendly and very flexible with check in and check out time. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New York area.
