Situated on the ground floor of a 19th century townhouse, this open-space apartment is quiet and fun. It features hardwood floors, a small kitchen with direct access to the garden. There is a queen-sized bed as well as a comfortable futon, so four persons can easily stay in the apartment. There's also a nice-sized closet space and an empty chest of drawers.
The living room has a seating area with DirectTV and free Wifi. The kitchen has a gas range, a fridge, a microwave as well as basic utensils. The bathroom is spacious with quirky details.
The apartment is located in Historic Downtown Jersey City, just across the Hudson river from Manhattan (only 2 blocks from the Grove street PATH subway which offer direct and 24/7 access to Manhattan.). The neighborhood is safe and diverse with many charming restaurants and cafes as well as several delis convenient for grocery shopping. La Conga Supermarket and ShopRite supermarket ((website hidden)) and Newport Mall ((website hidden)) are a short 10-15 minute walk away.
The World trade Center is only 10 min away (just two stops on the Path), downtown New York (West Village) is 15 min away (Christopher St., 9th st or 14th st), Chelsea 20 min away (Path to 24th st) and Midtown 30 min away (Path to 33rd street)
For those who drive, the Holland tunnel is also near offering a quick connection to downtown Manhattan (7 min to Tribeca, when there's no traffic!)
Mercer Street is in the heart of Historic Downtown/Van Vorst areas of Jersey City anchored by the Grove Street PATH station. When not exploring Manhattan, there is much to do in Jersey City. These include:
* walking along the Hudson River Waterfront for great views of Manhattan or venturing over to Hoboken for the great bar scene
* checking out the great restaurants in the area
* visiting massive Liberty State Park which has ferry service to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
* taking the kids to the Liberty Science Center
* attending the Farmers' Market or the live music performances at Grove Square: (website hidden)
* shopping at the Newport Center Mall or the local boutiques scattered on Grove Street or finding a bargain at the flea market on Saturday's at Van Vorst Park
Take the PATH which operates 24/7 to Manhattan (World Trade Center, Greenwich Village, Chelsea or Midtown...), Hoboken or Newark.
If flying in, Newark is the most convenient airport, followed by JFK. Please note that the best way to reach the apartment, especially from JFK is via mass transit. Taxis from JFK or LaGuardia are super expensive and you could be stuck in traffic for HOURS!
From Newark Airport: take the Airtrain to Newark Penn. From Newark Penn, take the PATH to Grove Street.
From JFK Airport: take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station, then take the Long Island railroad to NY Penn Station, exit the station and walk east to the PATH station at 33rd street and 6th avenue, take the PATH train to Grove Street.
From LaGuardia Airport: take combination bus/subway or taxi the PATH station at 33rd street/6th avenue.
Uber is also a good option.
No smoking in the apartment. Please do not flush Feminine Hygiene Products in the toilet. Please be respectful of neighbors and tenants in the building, no loud music or partying in the apartment. No frying in the kitchen. No outside guests that have not been registered by Airbnb. Thank you!
Everything was Perfect! As described... the apartment, the neighbourhood, the transportation, the hosts... all great! If back in NY we'll sure come back!!
The appartment was really nice. We had a good and confortable stay in JC. Everything was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook easy dishes.
Also it was really close the the path train station, so it was no problem travelling around - also in the evening. the neighbourhood was really nice, too and there was everything you need: supermarket and a lot of restaurats.
To sum up: perfekt place to stay.
People who plan on visiting nyc should know that you need an extra path train tiket additional to the subway tiket.
Bob & Francois offer a wonderful space here. Beautiful apartment and wonderful location. The space was updated and clean. Everything about my stay was great. They left us with many added bonuses that have been lacking in previous Airbnb's that I have stayed at. There was coffee and condiments. Laundry with necessary elements for use. And the price was amazing. I would recommend this place to any and everyone. I would definitely stay here again.
This was my first time using Airbnb and I couldn't have had a better experience. The apartment was perfect for my needs. I had to stay 2 weeks to work out of NYC and I was thrilled to find an apartment in this location. The place is a 3 minute walk to Grove Street Path Station, 20 min train ride to NYC. Having a Kitchen & living area was ideal for such a long stay, there's even a large back yard with patio set - although way to cold this trip to use, but would be great to have in all other seasons. The apartment was decorated well with original unique art pieces, and has a great open floor plan The neighborhood itself is fun and lively - there are bars, cafes, restaurants all around - no need to drive at all. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting JC or NYC.
Awesome place to stay. It's exactly as described and as the pictures represent. Very clean and tidy, has everything you need. Warm at night and the bed is very comfortable.
Francois was very helpful in giving advice for the city and local surroundings.
Very easy to get to from the city with the PATH train.
Highly recommend to anyone and I would definitely stay here again.
