The space

A quiet hideaway on two floors of The Foreman House. Built in the 1830’s, the property is a Class 1 Historic Site and formerly part of The Leiper Estate, "Avondale" circa 1785, nestled in a valley on the banks of Crum Creek in Wallingford, PA.

Please understand that we prefer multiple night stays vs single nights. We have made exceptions on occasion, but prefer multiple nights or a two-night stay minimum.

Ideal for a romantic getaway, or to visit the many historic and cultural sites in the area, or for visiting college students or parents. Visiting professors and medical students performing residencies at area hospitals will find an ideal, quiet retreat to study or simply unwind and rest.

Beautiful, original wide plank hardwood floors warm your private, two level space.

The lower level on the second floor of The Foreman House is one open space including a recently-renovated, full kitchen, dining and living area with a quaint, cast-iron gas stove.

The upper level on the third floor is one open space that includes a beautifully furnished, romantic bedroom with quaint, cast-iron gas stove, and a vintage-modernized full bath and soaking tub.

Relax in the modern adirondack chairs on your private deck overlooking the spring-fed waterfall and brook, or walk the beautifully-landscaped and secluded grounds, footbridge, and paths, surrounded on two sides by Springhaven Country Club and the other by Avondale Road and Crum Creek. Walk down Avondale Road along Crum Creek to the creekside park on The Leiper Estate, and visit the The Thomas Leiper House and museum, circa 1785.

The Den of Antiquity offers old world charm and new, modern amenities with a sense of seclusion near Philadelphia International Airport, Swarthmore and its renowned College, Media, Springfield, as well as minutes away from shopping and dining in nearly every direction. The Septa Bus line is a convenient fifty yard walk away, and the Wallingford Station on the Septa Media-Elwyn Rail Line, as well as Swarthmore Station just a few bus stops, and minutes away.

The first floor of The Foreman House and the attached Studio are offices occupied by a design firm from Mondays through Fridays, and are rarely occupied on weekends.

The house served as a wonderful refuge for our weekend philly trip. Nestled in a lush forest pocket, it was quiet, clean, and lovely. Spent much time luxuriating in the tub. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, utensils, and spices. If you are looking for a serene retreat just outside philadelphia then definitely stay at Bill's home.

The Foreman House is the perfect little spot to enjoy a quiet, romantic weekend surrounded by Wyeth paintings (We went to The Brandywine Museum). The simple and raw beauty of the house shines through. The surrounding bamboo and chirping birds added to the tranquillity.

We were extremely happy with our stay--we already miss it! It's tucked away in the woods, very scenic, but a quick two-minute drive to the little downtown in Swarthmore with a couple good coffee shops and a co-op and the train to Philly. The apartment was very clean, well equipped, gets really good sunlight, just a pleasant and refreshing space. Very highly recommended.

Had a very pleasant stay at the Foreman House while visiting friends in Delaware and Chester counties (and visiting downtown Philly, too). The property is in a beautiful part of Wallingford, close to Swarthmore College and Media. I would recommend this apartment for able-bodied adults. The apartment is on the second and third floors, connected by narrow staircases. The house is connected to the parking lot by stairs and a footbridge. The apartment is well appointed and comfortable. Don't be surprised that the bathtub and toilet are exposed to the rest of the bedroom. The kitchen is very cute. Bill and Shawne were very responsive and helpful.
