About this listing
Very unique, authentic, and comfortable Southwest style home with tremendous charm and warmth, 12 miles down San Miguel Canyon from the historic town of Telluride, Colorado. Telluride is home to a world class ski area, two film festivals, several music festivals including Bluegrass in the summer and Chamber Music and Blues Festivals in the Fall. Telluride offers a wide choice of restaurants and nightlife. Horseback riding in the high country can be arranged by the Host for a preferred price. Sit on the sunny decks or enjoy a fire in one of the 3 Kiva style fireplaces throughout the house in winter or fall. Cook meals on a beautiful six burner stove in a kitchen with a fireplace called The Rio Pecos Cafe. Fifteen minutes to Telluride and a half hour drive to Ouray Hot Springs.
Please read house manual to clarify how to use and enjoy facets of the house such as stove, kiva fireplaces, furnace, etc.
House manual can be emailed after house is booked. No offense to any dog lovers, they're great! but the Rio Pecos doesn't allow pets.
Ken was a really good host and his home was exactly as described and shown in the photographs. He was flexible in working with us on our arrival time and when we got there, he gave us a thorough but quick tour of the house. He was gracious in sharing what he had with us and making us welcome. We had the entire upper floor of the house to ourselves, but there was a caretaker living in the basement level, which is entirely cutoff from the rest of the house with it's own entrance. He was also friendly and helpful as we learned how to navigate Telluride during the bluegrass festival. The nearby restaurant at The Anglers Inn was good and a short walk down the driveway. The neighborhood felt very safe and a great view from the deck. Overall, great experience. Hope to return someday.
Ken was very responsive and helped us find the best places in the area to photograph. We could not ask for better communication.
The house is an amazing place inside. After a day of exploring the local (and not so local) area it was a quiet and restful place to return to. The location was convenient for exploration of the area around Telluride as well as a side trip to Ouray.
We hope to return soon.
Beautiful house, plenty of room for the whole family and affordable for anything in Telluride. Nice, responsive owner. We were well taken care of and would stay here again!
The entire week my family stayed at Rio Pecos Adobe was amazing. Ken was extremely helpful leading up to our visit, with tips for my daughter's wedding, and informative along the way. While the rest of the wedding guests were in hotels in Telluride, we had the comfort and luxury of an entire home, each with our own spacious rooms and comfortable beds, a fantastic kitchen, dining room and three outdoor decks to enjoy the view and view the amazing stars at night. We were able to host an after-wedding brunch at Rio Pecos Adobe, and one of our guests said it perfectly upon entering, "THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!" Ken sent before a house manual which was helpful and appreciated, and checked in on us several times during our stay to make sure everything was fine.
We did not want to leave!
If you book and stay, be sure to check out the Angler Inn a few doors down. Great vibe, food, beer selection and service.
Thanks Ken. We'll be back!
The Rio Pecos Adobe was the perfect homebase for our 8-day Telluride/Ouray vacation. The home is comfortable, beautifully decorated, has plenty of space (we had 2 adults/2 children for the full week and then 3 adults joined us mid-trip), and has so many special touches throughout. We especially enjoyed the balcony views during the day and night, the fantastic music selection, and the stove in the kitchen.
Ken is a great host and I'd highly recommending staying here!
Ken was more than accomadating and helped with local guidance and activities. The home was more beautiful in person than the picures show amd the attention to detail is remarkable. Right down to the firewood that was provided. The house was clean and everything worked perefectly. A very warm and comfortable private place to stay.
Ken & Ramona (who welcomed us to the house) were incredibly helpful and made sure we were properly settled in. The house is great, very comfortable and spacious with a wonderful collection of books. Sitting on the deck you are above the trees and the view is fantastic. We had a wonderful 5 days exploring, hiking and fishing the area from Telluride to Ouray. I can definitely recommend Ken's house to stay in - we (5 adults and 2 kids under 4) felt very comfortable and relaxed...
About the Host, Ken
I am a professional builder living part time in Los Angeles as well as Telluride, Colorado. I love the West, horseback riding, skiing, good food and wine, literature, pre-historic ruins of the Southwest and romps in the wild places. I have lived and traveled widely throughout the U.S. and feel Southwestern Colorado has more than its share of exquisite scenery.
When I built the house I tried to create a space that would reflect the tastes and culture of the Southwest. The house is part Trading Post and part Route 66 Diner.
It's always been a fun gathering spot for food and friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
