The bedroom has a California King sized bed and a reading chair with sliding glass door access to the tropical backyard and hammock. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and a freshly provided supply of wood and kindling. Orchids fill each room and every effort has been made to create a relaxed atmosphere of warmth and serenity.
Wind-n-Sea beach complete with tide pools, sandy beaches, rock formations, and gorgeous waves
Welcome to one of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. A unique feature of this great beach is that it is always changing. Depending on the tide, weather, and time of year, you might find a wide sandy beach or lots of rock formations covered in green moss and little hidden beaches tucked away in between. Known by the locals as one of the great surf spots in San Diego (for experienced surfers only). When the tide is low, tide pools emerge at either end of the beach and sea life like starfish, crabs, and sea anemone can be spotted. Locals gather at the beach each evening to enjoy the beautiful sunsets and it is not uncommon to see seals or dolphins in the ocean.
Known for being one of the most beautiful spots in the world with gorgeous beaches and wonderful weather.
The climate is mild, with an average daily temperature of 70.5 °F (21.4 °C). Being right on the beach you can expect a morning "marine layer" on most days that keeps things cooler until the sun burns it off around 11am. (No guarantees on weather of course ;-)) The area of La Jolla is broken up into a few neighborhoods: Wind-n-Sea beach (where the apartment is located), Bird Rock, The Cove, The Village, and The Shores.
Each neighborhood has something special and all are within walking distance if you are up for a healthy hike (except maybe The Shores - although some would argue even this is walking distance). The Village is filled with restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques. The Cove has a park, steps to sea caves (via the Sunny Jim Cave Store), and Seal Beach (also called La Jolla Children's pool as it used to be open for public use and its protected beach made it perfect for families - now it is the home of seals year-round). The Shores offers great access to kayaking the La Jolla sea caves.
A little further north (driving distance) you'll find scenic hiking at Torrey Pines Reserve and a great view from the top of Mount Soledad. From an Arts perspective, check out the La Jolla Playhouse and the La Jolla Athenaeum. Lastly, there is a farmer's market at the La Jolla Elementary School on Sunday mornings.
- Free unlimited wi-fi internet
- Community patio with BBQ
- Lots of books to borrow... and return :-)
- Washer & dryer (quarters needed)
- "Locals View" concierge list of local coffee shops, restaurants, book stores, and favorite local hangouts
Note: The apartment is designed to be a real escape from the world so there is no TV, microwave or landline phone (however, since the wi-fi is unlimited you can watch TV or movies on your own laptop, tablet or smartphone via Hulu or Amazon Prime or any other service you have access to). There are several nearby theaters for great movie excursions.
Also a note on parking: There is free, unrestricted street parking right by the complex. There is also one space on the property for guests, but it is first come first served and really is only a few feet closer than the street parking.
Any smoking indoors (of any substance) will forfeit the security deposit. If you smoke in the backyard (or anywhere near the doors to the apartment), please make sure the windows, doors, and sliding glass door are completely closed or it will be treated as though smoking took place in the apartment and the security deposit will be forfeited.
Absolutely no pets allowed. I love them too, but they aren't allowed on the property, not even when guests are visiting. There is a communal area of the complex where the BBQ is and if you have visitors with pets you can have them there, but please do not allow them to wander into the apartment at any time. Violating this rule will also forfeit the security deposit.
Respect Local Noise Levels.
The area is a relatively quiet neighborhood with the occasional party. Please keep noise levels to a minimum after 11pm on weekdays and after 1am on weekends. Sound does travel easily in the complex so if you are in the backyard talking loudly and the neighbors ask you to keep the noise levels down please respect that and move the conversation indoors. Just use your best judgement. You wouldn't want your stay impacted by being kept awake either so just try to keep that in mind while you fully enjoy yourself. :-)
Renters of this charming condo should keep in mind the construction going on next door when considering this property. Unfortunately, our stay coincided with a particularly disruptive time and we ultimately decided to find another location.
Julie was very understanding and accommodating. Our refund was processed promptly. This properties charm, views, and proximity to the beach make this a possibility for future trips once the construction wraps up.
What a beautiful location. The apartment looks right onto Windansea Beach, one of the loveliest places in La Jolla. It's a quiet neighborhood beach- we never found any crowds. We loved watching the sunset from the kitchen or relaxing in the lush very private garden. Parking was super easy. There were a couple cafes and restaurants a short walk away. The bed was really comfortable. Beautiful furniture from around the world and a nice collection of books on the shelves- clearly Julie is well traveled and well read. There were plenty of towels and blankets and beach towels. Kitchen is well stocked with the pots, pans, plates, flatware and condiments you need. High speed internet worked great. Coin laundry is available through the central courtyard (bring quarters).
Julie met us at the apartment and showed us where everything was. She was readily available via text for any questions. She emailed us a list of nice suggestions for area restaurants.
There is no tv, microwave, coffee maker, or dishwasher - not a problem for us but be aware. This is a good place to relax away from the high speed modern world.
Be aware: There is a large construction site right next door. They started at 7 am and ended around 3 or 4 each day but Sunday. It can be very loud. They are beginning to build a multistory condo (as of November 2014) and it looks like there are many more months left in the project. If construction noise is something that might bother you, be sure to check before you make the reservation if the project is done. If you plan to sleep in any day but Sunday it would negatively impact your experience.
Great location and a comfy bed in this little cozy getaway. Julie was very responsive to quickly resolve any problems we had.
Julie was great and offered suggestions on places to visit based on our interests. She knew we enjoyed craft beer and left a few in the fridge for us. The place looks just as she posted and is steps away from the beach. I loved the WindnSea beach. It was beautiful, especially the sunsets. I would recommend a stay here. Thanks Julie!
Julie's home is an absolutely gorgeous environment to stay in. Her instructions were explicit & easy to follow. Everything was immaculate & perfect. The bed is heavenly. The hammock is a wonderful spot to just 'be' in & the proximity to the beach is a superb asset. Really loved our stay here. Thanks Julie. We hope to come back some day soon!
Julie’s apartment is a clean, spacious, and safe getaway right on Windansea beach. Julie was incredibly responsive before, during, and after our stay to ensure we had all proper information and any questions answered for our stay. After a week of intensive traveling, the relaxing apartment and beach in La Jolla was a perfect end to a vacation. La Jolla is easily walkable, and all main downtown San Diego attractions were a very easy drive, about 20-25 minutes on interstate 5 – also the street parking was no issue whatsoever, even during peak beach hours. All accommodations in the listing were provided, and quite comfortable at that. She did forewarn us about construction that is currently happening on two properties next door and provided ear plugs to combat the noise which was appreciated. The construction was a bit disruptive in the AM, but in no way deterred our love for this amazing apartment. All in all, our trip to La Jolla was made better due to our stay here and we would likely stay again during a return trip.
About the Host, Julie
I’m free-spirited and independent. I pride myself on being self-sufficient - whether it is working on my own car or traveling alone.
I love the adventure of travel. I’ve been to Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Thailand, China, French Polynesia, Costa Rica, all over Europe and Scandinavia. I’ve learned how to train elephants in Thailand, studied Afro-Brazilian dance in Brazil, gone horseback riding and scuba diving all over the world, climbed mountains, and enjoyed amazing experiences along the way.
Enjoying the thrill of exploration, pushing outside my comfort zone, exposing myself to new experiences and different ways of viewing the world are all very important to me. I crave intelligent discussions with people who have something interesting to say about the world or their experience in it.
I'll do my best to share with you the best the area has to offer.
