Steps from sand of Wind-n-Sea beach

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Playa Del Sur, La Jolla, CA 92037, United States

The Space

The Space:
Spacious one-bedroom apartment steps away from Wind-n-Sea beach in La Jolla.

Enter a special place in the world and escape from it all. This first-floor apartment is in a quiet complex and has its own tropical yard in the back, complete with a hammock. With the ocean steps away, the sound of crashing waves is ever-present and the ocean can be seen from nearly every room. The apartment is complete with kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, and private outdoor space. The bathroom with its calming decor has a large counter top, tub, and shower. The bedroom has a California King sized bed and a reading chair with sliding glass door access to the tropical backyard and hammock. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and a freshly provided supply of wood and kindling. Orchids fill each room and every effort has been made to create a relaxed atmosphere of warmth and serenity.

The Place:
Wind-n-Sea beach complete with tide pools, sandy beaches, rock formations, and gorgeous waves

Welcome to one of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. A unique feature of this great beach is that it is always changing. Depending on the tide, weather, and time of year, you might find a wide sandy beach or lots of rock formations covered in green moss and little hidden beaches tucked away in between. Known by the locals as one of the great surf spots in San Diego (for experienced surfers only). When the tide is low, tide pools emerge at either end of the beach and sea life like starfish, crabs, and sea anemone can be spotted. Locals gather at the beach each evening to enjoy the beautiful sunsets and it is not uncommon to see seals or dolphins in the ocean.

The Area:
Known for being one of the most beautiful spots in the world with gorgeous beaches and wonderful weather.

The climate is mild, with an average daily temperature of 70.5 °F (21.4 °C). Being right on the beach you can expect a morning "marine layer" on most days that keeps things cooler until the sun burns it off around 11am. (No guarantees on weather of course ;-)) The area of La Jolla is broken up into a few neighborhoods: Wind-n-Sea beach (where the apartment is located), Bird Rock, The Cove, The Village, and The Shores.

Each neighborhood has something special and all are within walking distance if you are up for a healthy hike (except maybe The Shores - although some would argue even this is walking distance). The Village is filled with restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques. The Cove has a park, steps to sea caves (via the Sunny Jim Cave Store), and Seal Beach (also called La Jolla Children's pool as it used to be open for public use and its protected beach made it perfect for families - now it is the home of seals year-round). The Shores offers great access to kayaking the La Jolla sea caves.

A little further north (driving distance) you'll find scenic hiking at Torrey Pines Reserve and a great view from the top of Mount Soledad. From an Arts perspective, check out the La Jolla Playhouse and the La Jolla Athenaeum. Lastly, there is a farmer's market at the La Jolla Elementary School on Sunday mornings.

The Amenities:
- Free unlimited wi-fi internet
- Community patio with BBQ
- Lots of books to borrow... and return :-)
- Washer & dryer (quarters needed)
- "Locals View" concierge list of local coffee shops, restaurants, book stores, and favorite local hangouts

Note: The apartment is designed to be a real escape from the world so there is no TV, microwave or landline phone (however, since the wi-fi is unlimited you can watch TV or movies on your own laptop, tablet or smartphone via Hulu or Amazon Prime or any other service you have access to). There are several nearby theaters for great movie excursions.

Also a note on parking: There is free, unrestricted street parking right by the complex. There is also one space on the property for guests, but it is first come first served and really is only a few feet closer than the street parking.

  • Julie's place is clean, comfortable, and steps away from Wind n Sea.

There was some construction going on in the front of the house, which brought it's ups and downs. The upside, is we were even closer to the sounds and sands of the ocean. There was an amazing view that could be seen from also every room in the house. The downside, is if we were wanting to sleep in, we would of needed to wear the ear plugs Julie provided for us.

Julie was warm and inviting. Highly recommend staying here. For the price, this place is ideal! Thank you Julie.

  • Simply put, enchanting place in beautiful La Jolla. Julie made the entire process easy by being responsive and clear. When I arrived, I was surprised to find out that the beach was just steps away. The location made for wonderful wave splashing sounds in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, there was construction going on across the street that would wake me up in the morning and ruin the ocean sounds during the day. Aside from that, the place was beautifully furnished and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Excellent location, just steps from the beach. Julie was great and made sure we had everything we needed to have a wonderful stay. The apartment is cozy and has its' own charm. I recommend it and would definitely come back in the future.

  • We spent four days staying at Julie's place and it was amazing! We left the windows open so we could hear the ocean from all of the rooms as well as the sliding glass door while we were sleeping which was very relaxing. We were even able to walk up the road to the Busy Bee's Bakery every morning (it was our favorite and recommended by Julie). Communication with Julie was very easy and she is very thoughtful to leave recommendations of places to eat and go see especially since it was our first time to San Diego. We definitely recommend staying here.

  • We spent four fabulous days in La Jolla. Great weather, next to the ocean, listening to the waves and surf when waking up each morning. Julie's apartment is two houses away from the boardwalk in a very quiet neighborhood. We walked to a restaurant each night, and really enjoyed walking back home along the ocean. Parking is on the street, and we did not experience any problems finding a spot each day after we finished touring. We found the accommodations very clean, and comfortable. She has lovely soaps and lotions in the bathroom for guests. We would definitely recommend this space to anyone who wants to experience La Jolla like a resident.

  • Lovely, cozy, comfortable little place, and Julie is a wonderful host. She was responsive, and very conscientious about providing us everything we needed while not disrupting our privacy. The beach is indeed half a block away, and the ocean views are as advertised. Some mornings, we would walk out to the ocean in pajamas, tea mugs in hand. Wind-n-sea beach is truly lovely, and the sunsets are stunning. You can hear the sound of the ocean waves from the apartment all day. The only slight downside has nothing to do with the place or the host: the noise from the next-door construction project that begins every weekday (starting at 7 am) is not pleasant, but Julie went out of her way to ask them about the schedule for us, and even offered to provide us earplugs! A wonderful experience, and kudos to the hostess.

  • Julie is a fantastic host, very responsive and helpful for everything you need. Starting to write about her beautiful home just makes me sad - because I had to leave it! I leave it to you to experience! I agree with former comments that the building activities in front of the house don't add value (especially when starting already 7am), but if you are there for work, it shouldn't bother too much. During my stay, I visited a few sides in the San Diego area, including in La Jolla, It left me with the clear feeling to have chosen the best area possible including the beautiful sand beach surrounded by the most fantastic sand stone formations I ever have seen at any beach, not mentioning the amazing sea wild life... After the first day, you feel you are coming home! Stunning.

    November 2013
  • Julie was a perfect host, very helpful and communicative. Her place is great, very cozy, the sounds of the waves crashing can be heard from every room. I slept like a baby! There was some construction happening across the street the first week of November 2013, but just ask Julie if it's still happening.

  • One of the loveliest settings in San Diego is the Wind and Sea Beach area. Julie's place is just one block away from sand and surf. We enjoyed the comfy bed, the sound of the waves crashing, the cool CD placed in the recorder for our pleasure listening and the good bottle of wine she shared with us. Unfortunately, due to a few more stairs that we had not anticipated, we were unable to share Julie's place with my 92 year old mother, as planned, who relies on her walker and would not have been able to handle Julie's entryway...definitely a place for people who have no handicap issues. I still need to make alterations to our advanced payment due to this unfortunate change of plans but Julie is a gracious host and I know we will be able to make an adjustment of our payment. We did gave a successful move of mom to Northern California. Thank you Julie. Wishing you healing and more exciting adventures ahead! .

I’m free-spirited and independent. I pride myself on being self-sufficient - whether it is working on my own car or traveling alone. I love the adventure of travel. I’ve been to Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Thailand, China, French Polynesia, Costa Rica, all over Europe and Scandinavia. I’ve learned how to train elephants in Thailand, studied Afro-Brazilian dance in Brazil, gone horseback riding and scuba diving all over the world, climbed mountains, and enjoyed amazing experiences along the way. Enjoying the thrill of exploration, pushing outside my comfort zone, exposing myself to new experiences and different ways of viewing the world are all very important to me. I crave intelligent discussions with people who have something interesting to say about the world or their experience in it. I'll do my best to share with you the best the area has to offer.
