About this listing
Casa Torre del Cornone ((URL HIDDEN) is a little two rooms guesthouse, upon and inside the ancient city walls of Fontecchio, a little medieval village, in the Abruzzo mountain heart. Fontecchio is located within the Sirente-Velino Natural Park and a few miles from the Gran Sasso National Park and Campo Imperatore plateau.
Here one can find two double rooms with private bathrooms and with a great view on the valley. At the upper floor a wide ante-room can host two additional single beds. At the ground floor, a nice dining room with kitchen corner and a little terrace at the entrance. Wonderful walking tours are accessible straight from the village, just forgetting the car. It's also possible to reach Fontecchio by public bus and railway. Fontecchio has three family run restaurants, two bars, a foodstuff shop and a local made salami seller. A library with free internet access, local maps, guidebooks ecc is also available. Five mountain bikes can be rented by our guests. At the moment other rooms and apartments are under restoration and we can offer only the above described two rooms guesthouse.
Fontecchio is one of the better preserved ancient villages in Abruzzo, surrounded by snowy mountain ranges, wide forests, canyons, and remote plateaus. Wolfs, row-deers, wild boars can be seen in the nearby forests while the male deers bell can be hear in the Autumn. Eagles and vultures often cross the valley sky while in the higher range the chamois of Abruzzo grazes.

To live in a little village and make it revive, has been my dream since I was a teenager. I've spent the most part of my professional life, working in WWF Italy Education Department and, on 2002, I've started up my new business in the Sirente Velino Natural Park with the help of my wife Maria Luisa. Our guesthouse is part of an Environmental Education Center, recognized by the Abruzzo Regional Authority and in the last years a little team of professionals gathered around our center to manage project of community planning and rural sustainable development.
