This lovely eco-villa with its stunning bamboo structure is an ideal haven from noise and urban development and offers one of the most wonderful sea and sunset views of southern Lombok, Indonesia. It is located in Siwak, at the end of Gerupuk Bay, 9km away from Kuta Lombok. There are 5 waves right outside the bay for all surfing levels, beginners and pros.
The house was designed by a Spanish architect specialized in sustainable building and was built in 2010 entirely in bamboo and other natural materials.
It is a perfect retreat for travelers and sea lovers.
The 110sqm built are divided in two spaces: upstairs is the living room with the open kitchen opening to the big and marvelous terrace; downstairs is the more enclosed bedroom with an open concept bathroom next to it. It is perfect for a couple or a small family.
The house was carefully designed to make sure that it would fit in this wonderful natural spot. Entirely built in natural and ‘local’ materials, it is naturally ventilated and it has a well that captures rainwater and provides fresh water.
The driving concept behind its design was to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible; this is why much care was taken to reduce the energy consumption and to fully integrate the building with its surroundings.
There is no such villa in the whole island; it has the power to make visitors feel at home and breathe a peaceful atmosphere.
Conveniently situated 30 minutes drive from Lombok's international Airport and only 5 minutes walk from the closest beach, this location offers the rare opportunity to accommodate the needs of sport lovers as well as of relax addicts.
In fact, Lombok has a reputation for being an amazing surfing, diving and fishing spot and is renowned for its empty white-sanded beaches and green, hilly and breezy surroundings. These and other features make it the ideal holiday destination for experiencing one of Southeast Asia's most un-spoilt islands while adventuring in its wonderful natural landscapes.
The closest inhabited area is Siwak, by Grupuk bay, a lovely fisherman’s village that offers surfing lessons and fishing trips. Local people are very friendly and used to foreigners, who love to come here spending long periods of break from the usual routine. The area surrounding Grupuk is spotted with stunning bays and beaches that can be easily reached by car or motorbike and that offer the privilege of enjoying amazing paradise locations completely undisturbed.
The island of Lombok is Bali’s twin sister. It accounts for the perfect retreat place if compared to busy Bali and it is getting very popular among travellers that are looking for a calmer and more ‘nature orientated’ holiday. This tropical island offers a holistic range of adventure activities, from diving to trekking, surfing or spear fishing. What is more, Lombok has one of the most famous hiking spots in Indonesia: the Rinjani Mountain, which is the second highest volcano in Indonesia and is sometimes still active. At the top, the Gunung Rinjani National Park provides accommodation by the lake next to the traditional Aikmel village.
In the north of Lombok, a short boat trip crosses to the Gili Islands, three small tropical dots with white-sand beaches. These motorbike and car free islands are the departure points to superb diving spots and are also a good option for a break from local food and quiet life. Many restaurants offer good Western food and lively cafes on the beach spice up the nightlife.
Lombok is the gate to other wonderful places in Indonesia: a three-day breathtaking boat trip bring visitors to Komodo National park and the island of Flores and the island of Bali can be reached in less than two hours via speed boat.
This house is the perfect spot for an amazing summer experience rich of nature, relax as well as adventure and fun.
The house can hold up to 4 people max, but ideally is for 2 only. Please ask if you are coming with more than 2 people for details.
The house logistics and details will be sent to you on an email upon booking confirmation.
The house is made by us, we designed it and build it, so obviously we just want to have people that will treat the place as if it was theirs and will feel at home.
We care a lot about the environment and we wouldn't like anyone that doesnt respect the nature and vegetation around the house. This is very important for us.
There are 2 man working there for us, as maintainance and security guys that sleep in the Baruga (little temple) 30m away from the house. Their names are Guinny and Hassam and they will be there during the nights and could help you with anything related to the house. There is also a House Manager, living 5 minutes away from the house, that will help you get installed and comfortable. Her name is Jessica and she is from Italy.
We loved our stay at Siwak House. The natural beauty of Lombok and the house's excellent location in a relatively private/remote location with with its spectacular views and sublime sunsets created a very tranquil and memorable experience for us. You are surrounded by hills. sea and nature there. Alex and Paula have achieved a significant feat by building this comfortable, clever space in such a remote location. Everything we needed was covered and they were very helpful when we had questions.
The rainy season in Lombok presents quite a few challenges - ie. mud makes getting to the house tricky at times and the wind is prevailing Westerly which hits the house, but nothing intrepid travellers can't handle.
The water pressure/capacity can be improved and wi-fi would be a great addition in the future. The only issue we had was with the grocery provision service that was offered. We were charged about $55 for roughly a bag of food which we felt was a bit excessive, however we discussed this and there was consent that for future guests a budget will be specified and it will be disclosed in advance that a service fee is charged for the grocery collection.
Overall we recommend Siwak house and wish Alex and Paula the best.
If you look for peace, beautiful views, not crowed place and wonderful locals, this is your best choice. Good place for surfing, better if you are a beginner, although there are some spots for more experienced surfers.
The instructions given by the owner are clear and with them you have your day-a-day done.
The house is, as you see, very beautiful and respectful with the enviroment so you can have some insects but you should not worry about that.
This is a truly remarkable place to stay, the views are spectacular and you really do feel as if you are on top of the world. You are looked after beautifully by Tess and the staff on site. If you enjoy surfing, and living amongst the community this is the place for you.
Had a great experience at Siwak house with my girlfriend. Would definitely go back.
Tess welcomed us to the house and sorted out all our questions/ problems through the stay promptly with Fian's help.
We also managed to arrange some surf coaching with Yian for 4 days. He'd pick us up from the bottom of the hill and take us out to the best breaks each day.
After surfing we'd head back to the house and cook up some pancakes (the kitchen is very well equipped!), then explore the surrounding areas in the afternoon on scooter.
Super location and very well put together living space. Magic in the evenings on the concrete deck with bean bags and whatever tickles your fancy. I will say the construction going on over the back is somewhat annoying and disrupts the tranquility a bit. That's lombok though... Under construction at present.
The views were incredible. It was paradise. The birds of so many varieties especially early mornings, were a joy.The house's design was excellent. Our son had the bungalow which was right next door at the top of the slope. On occasion when it was hot and muggy, we sat in his area which always had fantastic breezes. The host had organised everything perfectly and the person on site who helped look after the grounds and house was very friendly and helpful. The beaches and local scenery are stunning.
