Details, details, details!
-- The house is 10-15 minutes from downtown Austin (by car) and not even 5 minutes away from the airport.
- Nearby landmarks: Austin's famous 6th Street, bars, live music venues, clubs, museums, the Greenbelt (hiking trails), Rainey Street, the Texas Capitol, Barton Springs pool, Town Lake and Lady Bird Lake (kayaks, stand-up paddle boarding, canoes, water bikes), Zilker Park, food trucks ... SO many things to do during the day and at night.
- Public transportation is just a 10-minute walk away from the house. I work and hangout in downtown Austin so I'm happy to give rides! If you have a car, you can park at the house.
- I'm at work Monday-Friday until 5pm. I can hang out after work and I'm pretty much free on weekends. I LOVE AUSTIN. I'm happy to be your tour guide whenever I'm available. If I'm not, I can help you figure out how to take over the city. You'll love it. Bed time is any time and you're free to be as nocturnal as you want :)
- I have two really cool, very nice roommates who are great with visitors. I don't have pets, you can smoke outside and I'm allergic to cats. That's all!
Guests are welcome to hang out in our cozy family/TV room (we have cable for your enjoyment!), lay out in the backyard, make full use of the kitchen, use the laundry room with washer/dryer, park in the garage and access the private guest room, of course. A full bathroom would be shared with one of the house roommates.
Interaction with Guests
I work until 5-6pm every day but I'm happy to show guests around whenever I'm available! I can also make great recommendations so that you can take on Austin on your own.
Common courtesy and common sense.
Andi's house was the perfect location for my first night in Austin. It cost me only $12 to get there from the airport which was lovely after a long journey, and although I did not actually meet Andi (which was a shame), she ensured I was able to get hold of a key to let myself in. She was very accommodating, letting my boyfriend stay at the last minute, and the room was comfy for us.
Prior to my stay she kept in touch via text so I felt reassured about my impending stay with her.
It was only a 5-10 minute walk to catch a bus into downtown from hers which didn't take long at all, plus it only cost like $1.50 so cheap as anything.
Andi was a great host and very friendly. She even picked me up from the airport! The house is very comfortable and the room had all that I needed for my SXSW trip. Nice neighborhood and easy to get to downtown. I even worked out the buses.
I love any combination of people and places. Bars, dance clubs, live music, outdoor movies, bike rides, boardwalks, floating on the river (and anything else to do with a body of water). I'm lucky to live in one of the most exciting cities I've ever known -- Austin, TX -- where I get to do most of these with great friends and awesome strangers.
It might go without saying that I have a borderline addiction to travel. So while I'm at home, hosting fellow travelers is my vicarious way to get my fix. I have backpacked around Europe and South America (I was actually born and raised in Ecuador) and traveled quite a bit around the US. I have a map of the world on my bedroom wall with photos of places I have visited. I hope it will always be a work in progress.
