Please know that these are not so much "rules" as our hopes of what we can count on our guests to do for us in exchange for what we feel is a reasonable price for our absolutely lovely home! 2 CATS (Luna and Pepper): We are cat lovers and we ask that you "accommodate" and provide some minimal care and attention to our two cats while you are here. So if you're anything like my mother who has a cat PHOBIA (or allergies!)...please, do all concerned a favor, and find another listing! This place IS FOR YOU if you love animals and are willing to do just a little to ensure these selfless beings' happiness while you stay in their house.

1) Luna is the multi-color, very particular, female cat and Pepper is the older male, gorgeous black cat (who LOVES him some Luna!). Both must be let in at night (hint: if they're hungry, they'll come in at night at the sound of food so wait til you're in for the night to do their evening feeding) If they stay outside after you go to bed, you or the neighbors are likely to hear screaming or meowing in the middle of the night as there is a grey cat (Tiki) who likes to mess with Luna. :)
2) 1/4 cup food in their 2 bowls twice daily, 2) fresh water in the bowl 1x daily,
3) scoop their poop out regularly with shovel attached to litter box system, shake off most of the white litter pellets and flush down toilet (it's easy and not messy because they eat primo cat food--Science Diet.
4) pet them as often as you can--life gets busy and they understand that but they'll let you know they're lonely, that's FOR SURE.
5) change the pad in the litter box system drawer 1x every 4 days (unless it doesn't appear too wet). If you stay 12 nights, then, 4) dump pellets into bag 1x weekly and throw away in dumpster behind condo complex in carport area). Pour new bag of pellets into litter box. (ALL EXTRA CAT FOOD AND LITTER SUPPLIES ARE IN PLASTIC TRUNK ON DECK BEHIND CERAMIC TABLE)

Please be gentle with everything in the house. It is a very small, old home and therefore many parts are easily broken or ruined--for example the delicate glass bedroom doorknobs and the doors themselves which don't always close easily but with patience will close just fine.

Kitchen: 1) Feel free to use laundry--soap under sink. One set of sheets is max it will clean at one time. SMALL LOADS ONLY--fill washer only 1/2 full of clothes as a gen rule. We use white metal drying rack (outside back kitchen door to dry most things as dryer is very small). 2) COUNTER TOPS AND SINK: DO NOT pour hot water directly from stove pots into sink--it will. STAIN. Instead, run cold water while you drain stove water into sink. Sink and counter tops are soap stone which is porous and will absorb most oils, etc. so please wipe up spills as they happen rather than waiting.

Help yourself to food and drink we may leave--pantry is well-stocked.

Dining Room: To shut French doors in dining room, you must shut them gently and tug firmly upward on the left and THEN the right in order to close and lock them. If you try pulling them hard to shut them, the handle will fall off (of the right door) and then you're left to deal with the allen wrench to tighten it back on (allen wrench is in tea cup on the wall to your right) which is a total pain. Please do not use items other than salt and pepper mills in the white curio cabinet in dining room as they all have sentimental value for me--you can use all other serving and eating implements you find throughout the kitchen.

Gardeners come 1x weekly on Tuesdays--be sure garden gate is unlocked (preferably, open) if you are out and let them in if you're here. They have to be able to come as I pay them by the month.

Fountains are OFF to conserve water during drought.

Sprinklers are on auto--please leave the settings as is so the plants remain happy and healthy. Gardeners will adjust them to new drought schedule 6/17/15.

One car may be parked in spot in the front driveway -- in the drive way closest to our gate entrance (the larger, 2-car driveway on left as you face the house--the small driveway to right belongs to one of the other tenants so we can't use that one).

We play DVDs and rent Netflix and Hulu (secretpass --that's the password for both) movies through our PS3 so you have to use 2 remotes to watch movies--one for the PS3 and one for the Sony TV.

My son and I have spent more than 2 weeks for summer camp at Stanford Uni. Pepper house is warm&cozy and Cecile is nice person..kind and helpful. There was a miscommunication but she solved it gerenously. She also gave good & enough information for staying. If I have another summer at Palo Alto, I'll consider her house first. p.s We almost cried when we say goodbye to her cat, Pepper.

This was a lovely house, however, a heavy calendar has been hung with a flat headed tack which fell during the night startling us out of sleep and setting in motion a series of events when I stepped on the tack in the dark and ended up falling and hitting my temple against the corner of a table. For this I was refunded a pittance. Lucky for all I was not more severely injured. Also, the patio doors do not lock so we had to keep valuables with us. Also it was very, very hot when the outside temp got above 85.

Response from Cecile:
Christine left a message stating that she was enjoying her stay and all appeared to go very well until I did not meet her demand for additional compensation for stepping on a tack after a calendar fell off the wall. French doors DEFINITELY lock--we are happy to answer guests' questions anytime but have not had calls or messages (including from Christine) about how to lock French doors. Christine also made no mention (until now--as I read her review) of not being able to locate key on arrival-and I sent more than one text reminding her where to find key. Christine visited during a heat wave--our home stays relatively cool for a day or two--after that, if extreme heat continues, we take steps to cool the house by closing blinds, etc. We've hosted many summer guests who have appreciated the coolness of our bedrooms at night. All of their reviews speak for themselves. All in all, Christine seemed more suited for a hotel rather than a home full of a homeowners' personal furnishings and decorations.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cecile’s. The four of us (two adults, two boys, 11 and 6) were comfortable in her lovely house. The two cats were sweet and welcoming and very easy to care for. Cecile was generous and welcoming, and she answered our questions quickly and thoroughly. For instance, we had a hard time finding the keys when we arrived, but she guided us to the proper location through messages, and we were able to enter within a few minutes. She was also quick to respond to all other questions, too, including location, where to find things, etc. The location is great for us—very close to the Caltrain, and a longer but accessible walk to Stanford. The patio is spacious and comfortable, a great place to relax, and we had the special treat of two neighbor kids about our own kids’ age. Even though they are moving, we would be delighted to stay at Cecile’s again on any future trip to Palo Alto. We highly recommend it!

We three had a wonderful 3-week stay in Cecile's house. The location is perfect, easy to access all places for work or leisure. Restaurants, CalTrain, Farmer's Market, and Stanford, etc. all within minutes' driving. The house is complete in every detail, and the backyard is an oasis. Pepper and Luna, the two cute cats, are wonderful companies. We never have pets before, and this experience makes our life more interesting and inspiring. Finally, we like to thank Cecile. You are the most accommodating and helpful host we ever met. Love to come back!

Cecile was really nice and helpful with erything we asked her for. The house is lovely, wonderful garden; you fill at home, that's exactly what we needed. The cats were a bit surprised by our presence but friendly with us staying at their home. Everything was perfect

This was our first experience with Airbnb and it couldn't have been smoother! I had lots of questions initially and Cecile was most accommodating & patient during the process. Our son was playing baseball at Stanford University, so her location was absolutely perfect. Her quaint home feels more spacious in person and offered us everything that we needed - bonus was the use of the washer and dryer and fully equipped kitchen. The backyard is super private and peaceful. We are dog owners, but found the cats a joy to have around and almost 100% self sufficient! We plan on relocating to California, in the near future, and hope to remain in contact with Cecile and her family. Awesome 5 star experience! PS - the wine was yummy - thank you again :)

This apartment is in a great location - right near El Camino, Stanford, Cal Ave (if you need to take the Caltrain) and it is super safe and friendly here. Cecile made us feel very welcome, was quick and friendly in answering questions despite being busy. The apartment itself is one of the nicest places I have stayed in! The house, garden, cats and the fact that Cecile allowed us to use the things in the house made us feel very comfortable and welcome, and allowed us to enjoy our time more. Got the chance to meet her daughter Chayla, who was also super friendly and helped us coordinate with her mom :) Cecile was able to accomodate my request for booking changes and was very friendly and reasonable and accomodating.

Friendly, curious, ecclectic, bad speller. Love to travel and cook and spend time with my kids, friends, family. Outdoor enthusiast, pilates practicing, yoga minded, hopelessly liberal and idealistic. Humor is everything. Traveled to Guatemala, Belize, Baja CA and Italy/Sicily. My grandparents were from southern Italy (Calabria) --their lifestyle and culture is the biggest influence on my life and values (with the exception of their Catholocism but I do have great faith regardless!). I enjoy adventure travel with comfort but not a planned itinerary.

My daughters speak Spanish fluently and can translate for me. :)
