  • The Bullwinkle Bungalow was a rare and wonderful experience. From its unique construction of windows that let you see the forest and stars, to great mood lighting, and many artistic accents, the cottage is very thoughtfully put together. It has a full kitchen, a very cool bathroom, and a surprisingly spacious loft with an actual staircase that makes it easy and comfortable to access, along with a large and charming deck that looks out over the small waterfall, brook and property. The property has its own small system of trails that link up to longer walks along the river and in the woods, and there is also a trail that leads into town. The location is perfectly situated quite close to the historic down town of boutique shops and restaurants of Nevada city, so it makes for a nice walk or a 2 minute drive. Richard & Joey were very welcoming hosts, and I feel honored that they shared (email hidden) with us. Though we enjoyed the great food and charm of Nevada City, our stay at the Bungalow was what made our trip the most memorable. I would not miss a chance to stay here again, as this has to be one of the most unique rentals in the Nevada City/ Grass Valley area.

  • We had an amazing time. Such a beautiful and convenient location. Richard was really helpful in letting us know about the vegan options in town and close by hiking trails. We will definitely stay here again!

  • Beautiful little cottage hideaway! Perfect retreat for a weekend getaway. Rich was a lovely and gracious host. The grounds and surrounding hiking trails are beyond beautiful as is the craftsmanship of the bungalow. A short and lovely walk to town. Highly recommended!

  • This was my first airbnb experience. I stayed at Richard and Joey's Bungalow with my parents and we were in town for a wedding. They lets us know about the trails just beyond their back yard (which is a really cool mountain with a hammock and an awesome teahouse which is on top of an old (big) tree stump. I wish I had more time to check out the creek/swimming hole below their property (but it was a bit cold).

  • Richard and Joey are fantastic hosts and we loved their slice of heaven. It was even better than we expected! We loved their tea hut and swimming hole in the back! Very relaxing! It did rain very hard, but we loved staying in the loft and listing to the rain. It was so cozy. We also got engaged in Richard and Joey's bungalow!! - so it will always (email hidden) in our hearts and we will be back!

  • (email hidden)e bungalow sits next to Richard and Joey's main house, yet you will still have plenty of privacy. Richard and Joey make themselves available yet unobtrusive. Richard shared lots of information about things like...the shortcut to town, how to get down to the creek, all the interconnected hiking trails right outside their back door, etc. In the bungalow they provided menus for local restaurants and other relevant "tourist" information for the area. The kitchen has a broad range of cooking tools to use, so there's no problem preparing your meals there if you want. They provide an ipod/stereo filled with a great music selection. The bungalow and surroundings are beautiful and relaxing. They've done so many creative things with their property; there's so much exploring and discovering to do just right there in their "back yard". And there are a couple of hammocks too! I wish I could have stayed longer. I expect to return in the future when we have more time. There are great birds there too, so if you're a birder (like me) you'll find plenty to interest you. And the swimming hole nearby is soooo beautiful and relaxing. The price is reasonable. Everything was great.

  • Richard is a fascinating person who built the studio himself with many unique and creative touches, on a magnificent site. He and his lovely wife are gracious hosts who have spent thirty years developing the house and land. The studio with loft was very comfortable and very welcoming with all amenities in close proximity to town, and overlooks a lovely creek.

Bullwinkle’s bungalow is next to our family home on the land where we have lived for over thirty years. We were drawn to the Sierra Nevada because of an appreciation of nature and life that celebrates the beauty of the land. For us it was the ideal place to settle and raise a family. Having spent a good amount of time traveling and living in far off places, we take great pleasure in sharing our surroundings with travelers.
