Florianopolis island is one of the most visited places in Brazil by tourists from around the world. It is rich in culture and natural beauty and is famous for its stunning beaches. Here is a selection of some of our favourite things to do on the island:
We are ideally located a short distance from some of the best surfing beaches in Florianopolis - Barra da Lagoa, Joaquina, Praia Mole and Praia do Mocambique. Not only are they famous for their waves, but they also offer a great atmosphere with places to eat, markets and bars. Don't miss the walking trail along the coast of Costao Santinho to see prehistoric rock paintings by some of the earliest inhabitants of the island.
Places to visit
Visit the sea turtles at Projeto Tamar in Barra da Lagoa, which has been set up to help protect the creatures from extinction along the Brazilian coastline. Take a boat trip across Lagoa de Conceicao to Costa da Lagoa to see the waterfall and eat at one of the many restaurants along the shoreline. Immerse yourself in history at Sao Jose fortress or Santo Antonio de Lisboa, one of the first settlements founded by Azorean immigrants on the island.
With temperatures perfect for being outdoors all year round, Florianopolis offers a host of sports to keep you entertained. South America's longest zip line or "tirolesa" at 220m is located directly across the road from our Pousada and offers magnificent views across the island from its peak. The dunes at Joaquina offer sandboarding, the morros above Lagoa de Conceicao give stunning views for paragliding and the lagoon itself offers kayaking, kitesurfing and windsurfing. There are many trails across the island that suit beginners to advanced hikers. Not to mention surfing!
The public market in the centre of Florianopolis, built in 1898, sells all kinds of food, goods and local handicrafts and the surrounding streets are crammed full of shops. Too hot outside? Head to Beira Mar shopping centre, Florianopolis Shopping Centre or Iguatemi shopping centre (for the cinema).
We recommend hiring a car if you would like to get around and see the different beaches and sites across the island. We can rent a car for you - just ask us and we'll give you a quote.
We can also arrange transfers to and from the pousada, either from the airport or the central bus station. Transfers are 90 reais.
Alternatively, if you would like to travel by public transport, there is a bus station 2 minutes walk from the pousada (one block in from of us). It is the Canasveiras line and goes to Praia dos Ingleses and Canasveiras. Our stop is "Hotel Engenho Eco Park." Please note you will have to change lines if you are travelling from central/ the bus station in Canasveiras.

Everyone at the pousada wanted to be sure we had a great experience, and they definitely take pride in their property. Caroline was especially helpful with answers to all our questions before our trip, and quick and responsive during our stay. We especially liked how it was a short hike to Mocambique beach, and a short ride to other beaches and towns on the less-urban eastern side of Florianopolis.
My fiancee and I moved to a more traditional apartment after a few days for the various "creature comforts" we silly Americans are accustomed to back home … If what you need are the basic necessities of a place to sleep, shower and keep things in a safe place that's clean, definitely consider Green Mountain Pousada.
Caroline even arranged for a friendly driver to pick us up at the airport when we arrived, and she made our car rental an easy and affordable experience.
What a lovely time I had in Floripa. Despite not knowing a word of Portuguese initially, Laetetia made me feel right at home while I surfed Moçambique and explored the island. I even got to take part in a proper churrasco and Samba party. Muite obrigado.
Caroline's place was absolutely fantastic. My wife and I stayed there for 1 week in June 2013 and had an absolute great time. Its a very tranquil and nice place to hangout. Even though the weather was not great, Caroline's mother in law, Laeticia helped make the stay superb. Caroline was also very attentive to our emails and responding to questions we had. Laeticia treated us just like family and even though we do not speak Portuguese, we were able to communicate with her no problem. I didn't have the weather to surf, but there are numerous surf spots nearby, including Mocambique which had awesome looking waves the first day we arrived and was easily reached by walking. There are numerous small grocers nearby and we had no problems cooking our meals outside and Laeticia even treated us to some of her delicious home cooking. They have a little dog named Dolly on site who is an absolute sweetheart as well. I would 100% recommend staying here if you are in Florianopolis.
My husband and I had the most wonderful stay at this new guesthouse. Everything was brand new. The BBQ area was really convenient - it had a cooktop and sink with pots/pans available to cook, and was just the thing we needed when we didn't feel like eating out and wanted to relax lying in the hammock or enjoy the hot tub. The location was fantastic and had a nice view. It was calm and peaceful and we could really relax and enjoy ourselves. We hired a car as it was easier to get around and we had no problem parking. It was a great base for going to the east and north beaches on the island. We would love to go back again!
My husband and I opened our guesthouse in Florianopolis Brazil at the beginning of 2013. Our aim was to create a place where people could relax, enjoy the natural beauty of the island and meet other travellers, or in other words create our ideal place to stay.
