So you must love pets. You will not want to stay here if you are allergic to pets. The secluded home is located in a small peaceful area at the end of a culdesac, near the bottom of Mount Helix. There are not many people walking by except for the senior citizens from across the street walking their small dogs. The home is surrounded by tall palms, orange and avocado trees and singing birds. It's like being in the country but it's close to everything. Down the street there are grocery stores and restaurants and large nearby employers include Grossmont Hospital, Alvarado Hospital, Grossmont College, Cuyamaca College, San Diego State University and Qualcomm Stadium. It's just outside of San Diego but a 20 minute drive takes you to Downtown San Diego, SeaWorld, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, San Diego Zoo, endless shopping centers like Fashion Valley and Mission Valley Mall and theaters. We have a garage full of surfboards, boogie boards, wetsuits and snorkeling gear. Experienced surfers may borrow our boards or inexperienced ones may request a surf lesson from Bruce or myself. My husband and I plus the pets are the only ones that live here so it's mellow. I am retired from the pharmaceutical industry and now I work part-time and pursue various hobbies such as yoga, sewing and video production.
For public transportation, the trolley is nearby which easily connects to San Diego State, Qualcomm Stadium, concerts, football games and other events. Interaction with Guests
Bruce and I are very outgoing and friendly and we love to share our San Diego experience with you. I will be present during the guests stay. My schedule varies but I usually see the guests in the morning for coffee then we go our separate way until the evening. While I spend my time in the downstairs areas, guests enjoy the upstairs space to themselves, relaxing in their rooms or bathing in their private bathroom after a long day out and about exploring San Diego.
I like that the neighborhood is peaceful and there are a lot of birds singing. The house is located in a suburban area at the end of a cul de sac so there's little vehicle or foot traffic except for the many folks walking their dogs. You may enjoy the weather and stretch your legs by taking a walk down the street which is lined with orange trees. Some guests have asked to walk our dogs through the neighborhood and that's a fun option too.
There are several types of grocery stores within a short drive including specialties like Middle Eastern, Mexican and health food oriented ones.
A quaint little downtown area is located just up the street and offers a variety of restaurants and bars. Enjoy the Downtown Cafe where they offer good food and fun bands on the weekends. There's a new micro brewery, Urbn which offers many awesome craft bears on tap and an award winning menu of favorites. We are happy to direct you to different types of restaurants that offer ethnic food like California Mexican, Thai, Middle Eastern and many others.
A bus stop is located at the end of the street. It can easily take you 1 mile to the trolley where you can take it almost anywhere in San Diego. The trolley operates both a rail and a bus system. It's a fun way to get around the city. Check out the Metropolitan Transit System website for all the (email hidden)(website hidden)
Other Things to Note
Parking is available in the back of the house in the driveway or in the front on the street. Parking in the front allows guests easy access to the front door, which is the most convenient way to their room.
We have a medium sized 45 lb dog, named Kai and a small 10 lb Maltese, named Puka. They are rambunctious and like to bark at newcomers, but after they get to know them they settle down. They are loveable and enjoy attention. Some guests like to walk one or the other as a way to wind down after a long day.
We have cats but they are usually hiding from newcomers, except Lava, who will offer you his paw on occasion.
We expect guests to clean up after themselves and not be excessively noisy. Just how you would want a guest to behave in your own home. No smoking in the home. Feel free to walk around the backyard for that. Overnight guest on occasion is okay with prior notification.
