About this listing
I'm so happy you are planning on visiting Kailua-Kona! If you choose to become part of my "Ohana" (family) while visiting Kona you will be welcomed by a "Super Host". I was awarded this honor after receiving more than 92% five star ratings from my guests, which I am so grateful! I will greet you with a fresh flower lei, have a basket of local fruits and flowers in your room, a box of Hawaiian chocolates in your refrigerator, as well as filtered water, and treats. I provide 100% Hawaiian coffee, and an assortment of teas. You are welcome to use staples in my kitchen for light cooking. There is a copy of "The Big Island Hawaii Revealed" in your room to help you explore options of how you want to spend the days, and I'm here to help you as well! I also have connections for great price on Manta Ray night swims, which my guests rave about! Lori is the BEST massage therapist in the world, and will come to my house and give you a 90 minute massage you will never forget for a super great price! She books quickly so if you are interested let me know and I can help with arrangements. I also provide a local cell phone for my international guests to help with communications for tours and with me! And that is not all! Beach towels, beach bags, boogie boards, chairs, cooler, swim noodles, and I have nice quality shampoo and conditioner all for your use!
If this is your first time to this magical island, do not be dismayed when you land on a huge barren lava field, I promise the majority of the island is lush and gorgeous! This area has so much to offer!
My home is located about one mile South of the Kailua-Kona village area, and 8 miles from the airport. We are 2 miles from the famous "Iron Man" finish line! This location is fabulous and really everything is a very 'doable' from here with out long drives. A day trip heading to the north is about 40-80 miles depending on your route, Volcano National Park is 90 miles South. To the east-side, (Hilo) it is a 1.5 hour drive with out stops. Whether you stay with me or someone else, I personally would discourage you from staying in Hilo, and certainly not more than a night, or better yet, one night in Volcano, see the crater glow at night (if the volcano is active) and a drive back to Kona through Hilo, perhaps visit the Botanical Gardens and Akaka Falls if you like. It rains a lot, and is much cooler than Kona, has a lot of Mosquito's and loud frogs, very little beach. Be sure not to fly into Hilo!
My complex has 2 pools, 2 hot tubs and is well maintained and nicely landscaped. The Dolphin Room is a smaller bedroom with a double bed, in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ground floor condo. It is very clean, and bright. The room is painted white, with many tasteful pieces of Dolphin art, hard wood flooring, and has blue accent colors. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. There is a small fridge in the closet. You will share a bathroom with me, (and any of my personnel guests, which is seldom) and "we" keep it very clean. There may not be room for extra towels and toiletries in the bathroom so they need to come in and out with you, hair styling needs to be in your room as well. There is a great mirror! Also, I keep a few things under that bed and rarely need access, but would always ask first when I do. I have a large patio with a gas grill and it is quite private. You have limited kitchen access for light meal preparation. I am very easy to talk with so feel free to ask about anything! Needs, wants, help, a bandaid, aspirin, etc. If I can help I will!
There is beach access about 3 minutes away walking. Swim beach is 2 miles away. The limited bus service stops right in front of my complex too.
You would be a temporary roommate! Usually it would just be you and who ever is in the master bedroom, (and that is typically a single person), and myself, but occasionally I will have a friend over or staying with me, and I have been known to sleep on the couch rarely in that case! I am up late at night usually and up early in the morning, so this does not seem to create any problem.
About me: I am metaphysical in nature, love being around like minded people. My passions are dancing, swimming with the wild Dolphins and cooking. Not a lot of "rules" here except to clean up well after yourself so the tiny ants don't come for a feeding, keep the screen doors closed, be considerate and no cigarette or cigar smoking please close to my place. (vapor cigarettes are fine) I have a washer/dryer and we line dry when possible. You can use the dryer if absolutely necessary. Power is very expensive here, so be aware please, fans off while away and lights off please.
I'm happy to point you in the "right" direction for affordable grocery shopping, points of interest and places to eat and dance! I have no TV, but I have a DVD player in your room, and LOTS of DVDs! I do have WiFi. Please use headphones when possible. The patio is shared with guests.
I look forward to sharing "Aloha" with you.
You have access to the kitchen for light meal preparation, the patio for lounging, eating, and grilling, the pools and hot tubs.
Interaction with Guests
I am here 95% of the time, if I go off island, I have a friend who will greet you and make sure you are well cared for! I'm quite opinionated about great places to eat and don't eat, places to spend time and not. I often will invite you to meet up or go with me to various activities. I NEVER have expectations, just letting you know, and the decision is yours, its your special time in Hawaii!!!!
I'm in a nice pretty quiet condo complex located very close to town, parking is in front of my ground floor unit, and it is nicely landscaped, and there is security person driving around all the time. A small beach seldom frequented by other people is across the street. I love it for sunsets, reading and wave watching. The closest swim beaches are 2 miles either direction, a great snorkel beach is 4 miles away. I'm 1 mile to fun restaurants, hula, music, dancing, dinning, shopping, and farmers market. (Closed Monday)
You really need a car!!!! There is very limited bus service. A cab is 7.00 to town from my house plus tip, $45 from the airport. Tours are great but expensive and many don't pick you up. If I'm free you can pay me to help with transportation, less than a cab, but you will be happiest if you can drive and have a car! I can give you the name of a great site to rent from, and they have a special for international travelers which includes insurance. Airbnb won't let me give any websites or numbers until booking are accepted, but I am happy to help if I can.
Just a few "rules". Quiet time is after 10:00 PM until 8:00 AM. Voices really carry close to the ocean, so if you are enjoying the patio please speak softly if possible especially in the late evening. Please close the patio screen door tightly when coming in and out. I love the geckos, but I like them outside best! No smoking with in 50 feet of the condo. And most important, clean up after yourself in common areas. We have little ants who love any form of food. Keeping the counters wiped off, dishes washed (using soap, I guess some cultures don't use soap) and food put away in secure closed containers to keep bugs away!
I really appreciate it if you would please de-sand as much as possible, and I do have a hose on my patio. If you end up with some sand in the shower please wipe it out, not down the drain, it is horrible for plumbing! Thank you!
