Every nook and cranny of this joint has been spruced up and is anticipating your arrival. This apartment is only used through airbnb meaning it is staged so you feel like you live in it and have every cozy thing you will need like a hotel but so much better...There is an all equipped kitchen and an incredibly comfy queen bed in the albeit small bedroom but private none the less with a sliding door, closet, and cubby for the bed. There is also an Ethan Allen couch in the living area that has a bed inside of it for extra guests. There are heated floors so that your feet are warm in the winter time. A ton of great books to curl up and read and a patio outside of your french doors and private entrance from the street. There is also a driveway in front of the apartment which is yours to use or not. This abode was made to feel rustic so much of the wood is unfinished. If you prefer brand new construction with a rustic finish this is the place for you.
Location! Location! Location! We are in an awesome location! Not near the Alberta district but IN it yet we are a couple of blocks away which means our street is quiet. We are a stone's throw from so many great bars and restaurants. This could be a vacation of all walking or you could hop on one of the many public transit options a few blocks away. Or you could rent bikes on Alberta St. This neighborhood is so fun and filled with cute and unique small businesses, shops and establishments yet it is also peaceful. The farmer's market is exactly three blocks down the street and takes place each Sunday. Last Thursday is a festival once a month on Alberta St. We are also walkable/bikeable to other neighborhoods in the NE like the Williams Corridor and Mississippi St.
Our abode is like a retreat in a very fun city! We are here as your hosts to help create the best stay possible but it is likely we may never see you as your apartment is completely private from our home. The space is a garden level so it is underneath our house but has french doors and a big window overlooking your own outside space. This space gets great light and truly feels like a cabin. Even though we took great measures in sound proofing you still will hear us pittering and pattering upstairs, our dog barking at the mailman, or our washer/dryer when it is on. You will have a sound machine in your bedroom in case you are a sensitive sleeper and the above might disturb you. We will also leave you an extensive homegrown list of the best spots in town and will only be a text away! The feeling of the apartment is truly unique and quite an experience. We look forward to creating the best nest for your Portland adventure.
This was a very small, clean place that was suitable for a weekend, but we would not come back. The bed was small, uncomfortable and pushed into a corner so that the inside person has to climb over the outside person to get out. The pillows were unusable and the sheets were rough. The bathroom was tiny with a small stand up shower and it was very dark. We didn't meet the host, but she was very responsive in making arrangements. The location and parking is good but in my experience, it was overpriced for what you get.
Our stay at Penelope's was just wonderful! It just so happened that our weekend visit to Portland coincided with the biggest snow and ice storm the city experienced in five years. A biiiiig portion of the city shut down, and going out and about in the city meant bundling up, getting cold feet, and shivers upon shivers. We were SO GRATEFUL to have such a warm, cozy nest in the city to call "home" during our stay. We made frequent, "warm up" trips back during the day, and it was always so pleasant to return to. And the proximity to Alberta St. and restaurants, etc. withing a short, snowy walk was even more appreciated than usual. Also, Penelope was kind enough to let us check out late our last day there when there were ice and freezing rain warnings. It DEFINITELY improved our final day in Portland. Not sure what we would have done otherwise.
Thank you for letting us stay -- it was wonderful and we'd come back in a heartbeat (preferably when it's not snowing).
Really cozy place in a great location. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Very private, we enjoyed staying here!
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic weekend at Penelope's place! The abode itself is great, we never wanted to leave. It was really cosy, the bed was comfy, and we really liked the tape player and all the cassettes there were to play (dancing always beats TV), as well as all the good books that were around - we really felt like the place was ours. The area is great, not only did we experience all the great restaurants and bars (Penelope provides a list with great recommendations!), but the abode is really close to a couple of bus lines that made it easy to get to downtown and the airport. We didn't personally meet Penelope, but it was great to have so much space to ourselves, and checking in and out was really easy. Hopefully we will be back soon!
Cozy space captures the feel of Portland. Walking distance to great shops and restaurants.
Great place to spend a weekend. Penelope has done an amazing job putting together a fun and eclectic space. Fantastic location, too!
The location is spot on. We could not have asked for a better place. It was 1 hour from the airport by MAX and bus (super easy with only one transfer). It was 5 blocks from a major bus route that takes you into downtown Portland. There are oodles of coffee shop, eateries, and shops within walking distance.
The apartment was exactly has advertised. Small, funky, clean, and full of character. The bed is really comfy. Robust Internet (can stream movies speed). I am not sure why I would go anywhere else!
A great spot to light en route from San Francisco to Vancouver - we arrived on a chilly night and stepped into the toasty warm and felt at home straight away, and loved having such great food and vibe steps from the door in Alberta Street!
The apartment is really cute - mason jar glasses, vintage wallpaper, great books on the shelf, and the coziest bed ever.
This was a really nice, comfortable place. Also, it's very close to the 2.2 × 10⁹ restaurants on Alberta. Me and my friend had a good ol' time in Portland.
The whole transaction was very smooth, and the place was set up so interacting with the hosts was not necessary. The only downside was that at one point we wanted to ask Penelope a question, but she didn't pick up her phone. No big deal, though.
This little apartment is a gem in Alberta. If you are looking for privacy, and to have your own kitchen, you cannot beat this place. Its small, but absolutely perfect for a couple. The shower water pressure is perfect (important to some!!). The bed was extremely comfortable, and the overall place had kind of a "cottage-like" feeling, not basement apartment. Entrance is completely separate from house so it you are offered total privacy. Highly recommend!!
