Every nook and cranny of this joint has been spruced up and is anticipating your arrival. This apartment is only used through airbnb meaning it is staged so you feel like you live in it and have every cozy thing you will need like a hotel but so much better...There is an all equipped kitchen and an incredibly comfy queen bed in the albeit small cozy bedroom. The bedroom has a sliding door, closet, and the bed built into the corner. There is also an Ethan Allen couch in the living area that has a bed inside of it for extra guests. There are heated floors so that your feet are warm in the winter time. A ton of great books to curl up and read and a patio outside of your french doors and private entrance from the street. There is also a driveway in front of the apartment which is yours to use or not. This abode was made to feel rustic so much of the wood is unfinished. If you prefer brand new construction with a rustic finish this is the place for you.
Location! Location! Location! We are in an awesome location! Not near the Alberta district but IN it yet we are a couple of blocks away which means our street is quiet. We are a stone's throw from so many great bars and restaurants. This could be a vacation of all walking or you could hop on one of the many public transit options a few blocks away. Or you could rent bikes on Alberta St. This neighborhood is so fun and filled with cute and unique small businesses, shops and establishments yet it is also peaceful. The farmer's market is exactly three blocks down the street and takes place each Sunday. Last Thursday is a festival once a month on Alberta St. We are also walkable/bikeable to other neighborhoods in the NE like the Williams Corridor and Mississippi St.
Our abode is like a retreat in a very fun city! We are here as your hosts to help create the best stay possible but it is likely we may never see you as your apartment is completely private from our home. The space is a garden level so it is underneath our house but has french doors and a big window overlooking your own outside space. This space gets great light and truly feels like a cabin. Even though we took great measures in sound proofing you still will hear us pittering and pattering upstairs, our dog barking at the mailman, or our washer/dryer when it is on. You will have a sound machine in your bedroom in case you are a sensitive sleeper and the above might disturb you. We will also leave you an extensive homegrown list of the best spots in town and will only be a text away! The feeling of the apartment is truly unique and quite an experience. We look forward to creating the best nest for your Portland adventure.

Penelope was such a great, welcoming host! We showed up a few hours before check in, but she let us stash our bags in the apartment even though it was still being cleaned - so very nice of her! The place itself is adorable - the perfect like temporary home for me and my boyfriend. It's a basement unit, and while it has several windows, they don't get direct sunlight, so it's sort of like a cozy little cave (which I really liked). The bed nook was also so cozy, and we had plenty of room in the main area of the apartment to spread out with our laptops when we wanted a bit of downtime. More than two people might feel a little crowded, but for the two of us, it was just right. There is great food and coffee a few short blocks away on Alberta (check out Case Study for a delicious hazelnut latte), and it's easy to catch a bus to downtown, but the neighborhood itself is very quiet (like most Portland residential areas seem to be). Such a great experience; I would definitely stay here again!
Penelope's Arts Abode was everything we hoped for and more! It's clear the space was built and decorated with such love and intention. If Penelope doesn't already have a career in design, she should definitely look into it :) In terms of location, you can't do much better. The Abode is situated in the most charming residential area right off Alberta - a popular avenue with easy transportation to and from. The bed wasn't very firm but suited us nicely, the water pressure was great, wifi was fast, every amenity worked great. I highly highly hiiiighly recommend Penelope's Abode. Thanks for the great time, Penelope and fam!
We had a great time at the abode! My daughter and I loved all the unique and homey touches. The place was cozy, warm, comfortable, a great experience. The neighborhood, shops, and restaurants were also a treat to explore. We hope to come back!
What a perfectly located and wonderfully homey retreat! The abode was the perfect place to return to after long strolls through the NE side of Portland. We ended up loving it so much we decided to stay in for Valentine's Day and cook for ourselves! Penelope and Nathan were wonderfully responsive and sweet, the abode was exactly as pictured (maybe better), and my only regret is not getting to meet them.
The heated floors were amazing, the bed was cloud-like, and the dimming lights made it cozy at all times of the day.
Staying in Alberta was a great choice, so much yummy food nearby! I highly recommend renting bikes to get around/ get downtown with.
Thank you for such a magical Portland trip!

Our experience was most excellent! We spent a lot of time walking the nearby Alberta Arts area and loved coming back the space. Everything is super adorable. The bed is ridiculously comfortable. Can't say one bad thing about Penelope's unit. Was awesome and I would definitely go back.
Loved staying here! The coziest bed ever. Close to lots of restaurants/shops. Penelope was a great host.
The abode was adorable. Loved the way it was decorated, so thoughtful and quirky. It felt fun just being in there. Loved the neighborhood, it felt safe and artsy. Self check in was simple. We rented a car and parking was easy. The mattress felt a little stiff and springy, it could use a foam topper in my opinion. Penelope and Nathan were quick to help if we needed it but really let us keep to ourselves and enjoy our stay. Overall, we loved staying in their abode and would definitely stay there again.
If you do indeed stay with us again we would be happy to put a foam topper on the mattress. We have never had anybody mention that opinion of the mattress before. Infact we have had nothing but very positive public aand private mattress responses usually involving the words coziest and comfiest so I was surprised to hear this. However mattresses are such a personal specific preference that I could see how one person would find it "so cozy and soft I wish I could have it at my house" and you would think it were stiff and would prefer a topper. Regardless whenever guests check in I will always inquire if there is anything I can do to make your stay the best and this is one of those things I could easily recitify especially since you stayed for 4 nights. Next time!

I am a professional organizer and co-active coach. My husband owns his own electrical contracting company. We moved to Portland from San Francisco years ago to plant some roots and my how they have grown! We have remodeled two homes and our current home has been featured in the home decor blog Apartment Therapy. I love creating a magical and enchanted space for others to enjoy and refuel in..
Nathan and I use airbnb when we travel as it feels as if you are a local and less removed from the adventure at hand. I love leaving a list of our favorite spots here in Portland and enjoy playing host. We hope to make sure you adore this sweet little town as much as we do!
