About This Listing
On the southern edge of Mar Vista, a refined rustic home with separate areas for chilling or entertaining, sandwiched between Santa Monica, Venice, Culver City, and Marina Del Rey. Nearby access to north-south and east-west motorways/freeways.
Imagine this, after spending an amazing day seeing the sights of LA and basking in the golden sun on the beaches of Venice, you retire to a beautiful craftsman home, finished with cedar, redwood and Douglas fir throughout, encompassing the tranquility of the northern California coast. You prepare yourself a fresh meal of carne asada and grilled lime chicken on the outdoor barbie, coupled with splendid margaritas. As the sun sets you relax in the hot tub, while the clear sky darkens and the stars twinkle and shine through the bamboo, palms and jacaranda trees scattered throughout the large open yard. After drying off, you light a fire in the outdoor fire pit and invite over friends, new and old, to share drinks, music, billiards, ping pong and general good times. This is my home, a place where the best memories are made, and friendships are built for a lifetime.
Literally minutes from the Venice Boardwalk and Abbot Kinney, you will be perfectly situated for quick access to LAX Airport, Santa Monica, and all of LA's major freeways, all under 15 minutes. You are also within walking distance of several nice restaurants: Waterloo & City, Pitfire Pizza, A-Frame LA, and many others.
The 3 bedroom home features all the amenities and comforts you need to feel like home away from home: washer and dryer, Wi-fi, satellite TV plus Netflix, large spacious kitchen perfect for cooking anything and everything, backyard redwood deck with an outdoor bar, pool table, ping pong table, BBQ grill, fire pit, jacuzzi and sauna. The home was designed to be both a refuge of peace and a place for people to come and create memories. We also have bikes that you are free to use and some exercise equipment as well.
I have a 4 year old German Shepherd who is quite friendly and has made a lot of friends with Airbnb guests. If you want to bring your sociable dog I can accommodate you, but request that you inform me ahead of time. There is a $150 security deposit for bringing your dog, which will be collected on your arrival, and returned on your departure, as long as no smelly spots have been left on the bedroom carpet during your stay. Also it would be appreciated that your dog does not get on the bed at any time, nor is it allowed to be locked in your room, unless you are in it.
There is plenty of free parking on the street and smoking is allowed in the backyard.
We recommend checking out SideCar or Uber for affordable ride solutions from the airport. Also there are van pools parked outside the terminals that charge around $12 but there may be a wait before leaving airport. A taxi is typically around $30.
The bathroom is shared with the guest(s) in the adjacent bedroom, unless that room is not occupied when you are here. Guests have access to all rooms except other bedrooms; laundry, by arrangement; also access to backyard, fire pit and spa. Note: The spa is sometimes not on/filled with water. If you care to use it, please give a minimum of 5 days notice before your intended use of the spa. There is a 60" TV in the living room with basic cable setup, plus Netflix movies on demand, no charge.
Interaction with Guests
This largely depends on the guest's itinerary. Some visitors are out every evening exploring the night life. A few have preferred to cook here. The kitchen and back deck are places where interaction is most frequent, and where conversations may go late, or not, depending on everyone's agenda.
It is quite central to freeways on one side, Venice, Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica beaches on the other/west side, Santa Monica directly to the north, Culver City and Marina Del Rey directly to the south.
You can ride a bus, or a bicycle, hire a car, hire a taxi, or even walk to many places to have dinner or get groceries.
Other Things to Note
I get a lot of inquiries asking for information that is already provided. Therefore I encourage the guest to read the descriptions for this listing in their entirety, before sending an inquiry. Thank you!
1. The room comes with ONE Queen size bed. We can also provide a foam mattress or futon for use on the floor, if need be.
2. As mentioned above, the bathroom is not private for this bedroom only, unless the other bedroom is not occupied. There is however plenty of space in the cabinet for toiletries, and a very large shower stall. There is also another bathroom which is always open to guests to use if the guest bathroom is occupied.
3. Guests are requested to advise of their desired or anticipated arrival time, preferably a day in advance, so I can make sure I am here.
4. If the Airbnb reservation request you are inquiring about shows the room is available, then there is no need to write to me and ask me if it is available. This is all computerized. The best way to have your booking accepted is to make a booking request. If you make an inquiry, then that is most welcome, however the first party to make a booking request will be the party who is accepted; as this pertains primarily to short notice bookings, please be aware that just because we are in dialogue does not mean I am holding the space for you.
We live the golden rule. Do the same and you will find peace and harmony here.
The basic protocol is spelled out on the guest information sheet provided to each guest upon their arrival. If you would like to see a copy of this, please don't hesitate to ask for it and I will copy and paste it in the message box of our dialogue.
We loved staying at Paul's home. It is a beautiful house that is warm & welcoming (just like Paul) & in a wonderful location & quiet/safe neighbourhood. Would recommend staying here ten times over & definitely plan on staying here next time in LA.
Paul was the perfect host. His house was ideal for our stay. It is super clean, comfy and best of all he has a hot tub !
The house is in a really safe neighbourhood with restaurants and supermarkets really close and only a short bus ride to the sea !
I would recommend to stay here and would return myself if coming back to LA !
Paul made me feel extremely welcome and at home. The house was much better than I thought it would be and the weights and hot tube are excellent add ons too! The neighborhood was quiet and centrally located. We had quick access to the beach and great nightlife and dinning and the highway was close but to scoot out of town for a day trip to Malibu or for a quick hike up in the mountains. I really enjoyed my stay and look forward to returning there next time I am in town.
Paul affirms my faith in humanity.
This was my first time - along with my friend from France and Japan - doing an AirBnb and we weren't sure what to expect. But from the initial room request, Paul was always clear, succinct, responsive, friendly, helpful, and just a cool guy to interact with.
He's a man that has lead - and continues to lead - an interesting life. If you're lucky enough to hang out with him and sit around his custom built fire pit on a cool evening, then just maybe you'll hear a few stories from his eclectic life of travel and exploration.
Staying with Paul is like staying with an old friend you made while studying abroad or backpacking through some remote part of the world. You instantly feel familiar and comfortable, mainly because he is so welcoming and accommodating. He even treated us to some perfectly cooked trip-tip that he was BBQ-ing and built a roaring fire for us to relax around.
Thanks for the memories!
Paul was a super host. He is very friendly and his house is beautiful! We had a very good time in LA, we also used his wonderful jacuzzi situated in the patio. He also showed us Venice Beach! We also loved his dog Champ :) I would definitely suggest this house to anyone!
Ps the shower is amazing and the bed VERY comfortable !!!
We stayed for 4 nights, and Paul was very nice and helpful. The room is very spacious and clean. There's enough pillows, blankets and beddings, and everything is comfortable. The shower is clean and the water pressure is good (which is very important to us! Who wants to feel like camping on a trip to LA?!) We used the jacuzzi one night. Paul gave us detailed instructions and it turned out great, (Drinking wine in jacuzzi while looking at the stars XD).
I am bad with names and I didn't really remember the name of the dog. He's so handsome and chill and I'm sure everyone will love him.
