After two wonderful weeks in Ecuador, we landed in Nicaragua on what the locals assured us was the hottest day of the year. It took us about 45 minutes to get to Granada from the airport in Managua and frankly, by the time we arrived, I was lusting after the air conditioner. The room we had was spacious and quiet and the garden in the courtyard is lovely. We had a traditional Nica breakfast in the morning which was small but delicious. We only stayed one night with Joel, but I found him to be informative, helpful and accomodating. He also helped us secure transport from the airport which was above and beyond the call. With only one night to explore on foot, we didn't have a great impression of Granada our first night. If you stay here, make sure to spend some time in other parts of town. There (email hidden)ly restaurant scene on the street behind the big cathedral and there are many places to enjoy music. Also, if you can, visit Laguna de Apoyo. It's a crater lake about 20 minutes outside of Granada and a great way to beat the heat. Check in at any of the bar/restaurants by the water where you can swim, eat and drink to your heart's content.
Our stay at Casa Jardines was absolutely DELIGHTFUL!!!! Joel, our host is such a wonderful and knowledgeable person to be around. He made us feel welcomed as soon as we stepped through the front door. Our first night there, he informed us of all the do’s and don’ts around the area, made us aware of the conditions of the streets – little pot holes, high and low pavements which are throughout the town, and of course, a little advice on little critters such as mosquitoes. The house is situated perfectly in a quiet and SAFE neighborhood and less than 5 minutes away from the center of town. There’s a garden by the rooms, with a hammock to relax after a long day of sightseeing as well as a sitting area with comfy couches. Candy, the housekeeper will prepare breakfast for you at your request which was a plus but most of the time we ate out because we wanted to try the local food around the area. If we return to Nicaragua for a second visit, we’ll definitely be staying with Joel again.
We had a great time visiting Casa Jardines and hope to go back. It is a beautiful house in a great area. Make sure you know where it is located, its a little tricky to find the first time. Great breakfast, wonderful places to sit in the shade and nice company. Joel has lots of great information about the city and tries to make sure you have a nice visit.
Our stay here was perfect. Joel is a great knowledgable host, we great help around him. Candy makes a tasty breaky and always has a smile on her face. They set us up with a john who drove us to lagoon apoyo and picked us up all for a reasonable cost. The accommodation it's self was a great place. Own room, AC, community area is very relaxing and welcoming. Great experience.
