Casa Jardines

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · NIC, Granada, Granada, Nicaragua

The Space

You will find Casa Jardines true to its name. The large garden and quiet neighborhood is only a few minutes walk from the center of town and the perfect place to “come home” to after an active day.

Casa Jardines has a large sala and guests have use of the kitchen should they want to stay in for lunch, dinner or that midnight snack. The guestrooms are all located in a wing off the main house that looks onto the garden. There's daily maid service, as well as use of the washer.

I moved to Granada nearly five years ago intending to stay for six months and simply to experience a new culture while taking a well deserved sabbatical from my consulting practice. I have now been living here for five years and have never regretted a moment of it.

Before moving to Granada I was an attorney/consultant in Washington D.C specializing in clean e energy technology. Believe me when I say politicians can wear you down. After thirty years of consulting, I thought it time to take a break. Little did I know when I first came here that it would prove a new lifestyle.

Granada has managed to retain its authenticity despite the growing number of foreign travelers and residents. The city’s architecture and friendly people were what first drew me here. The pace of living, availability of wonderful restaurants, warm and welcoming people and its close location to beautiful beaches, the lake, the pueblo blancos where many of Nicaragua’s best crafts people reside and the city’s and country’s safety have kept me here.

Planning a trip to Granada? I would be happy to be your host and can guarantee that my staff will do all they can to make you feel at home.

  • Joel was a wonderful host. The room we had was great and Joel said we could even use the air conditioner as long as we stayed in the room (prices are expensive out here for this). We only booked one night but decided to stay for two. There was an incident where the guard dog was a little loud, but she only barks for long periods of time when something really bugged her. The fact that we were safe and lost a handful of hours of sleep didn't bug us too badly. We recovered the next night. We had a nice basic breakfast included with our meal. Joel and the others that lived here were fantastic and helped us with whatever we needed, directions, getting transportation, etc. Our room was big for just the two of us and we really enjoyed the temperature of the shower. Our toilet was having an issue with flushing, but we were able to fix it ourselves. We had no worries staying with Joel and I'd highly recommend booking with him :) He's also a very interesting character to talk to! The location was okay, you have to walk a bit farther out to get to where you'd like to, which is a bummer in hot humid weather, but it's pretty cheap to take at taxi if you'd like to do so. They run by the road outside of Joel's place very often so you don't have to worry about hunting one down. Stay here if you have the opportunity!

  • Our stay was great! Casa Jardines is a beautiful home within walking distance of Granada's historic center with a lovely garden, open kitchen and quaint, traditional rooms. Joel and his housekeeper Candi were tremendous hosts and made our stay comfortable and memorable. Because of the brick construction, the rooms stayed cool despite the heat, and the air conditioning was there when we needed it. It was a wonderful place to return to and relax, so we will definitely stay again the next time we are in Granada!

  • Casa Jardines is a lovely home with even lovelier people running it. Joel is a wealth of information and goes out of his way to be helpful and make your trip enjoyable. He responds to everything you ask with kindness (made sure that my linens were without fragrance since I'm chemically sensitive, found me an art class, got me to the market so that I could buy my fruit for my special diet, etc.) and I've found it to be very helpful to my successful journey here. Candy cares for the house and keeps it clean at all times and is a very warm and delightful presence. As much as I've enjoyed the colonial style house, it is the people here that make it a place you want to stay. For me that is a wonderful feeling while exploring a city where I know no one nor the language. Because of staying here, Granada has become a wonderful life experience for me and I hope it is for you, too!

  • Sometimes when travelling you don't end up with enough time in certain locations. So first impressions are very important. And Joel, the very friendly staff, the animals, and his casa could not have exceeded that hopeful expectation. I instantly felt welcome and was greeted with exceptional kindness. Joel was also very helpful with what to do, what to see, and where to go on limited time.
Not to mention the home! Beautiful! Big open rooms, exposed brick, high ceilings with great airflow, lovely garden, hammocks, rocking chairs to enjoy a morning café, and very close walking distance to the centre of Granada.
I'm sure I will be back, and now I totally know where to stay.
    Thanks again Joel!

  • Joel and Candy were the most congenial hosts! My first surprise was that they sent a driver to pick me up after 9pm when my bus got in! That dropped my anxiety over a long bus ride and border crossing to about 15%. Candy cooked breakfast (to order) every morning and took me with her to the REAL market in Granada (not for the squeamish!) and helped orient me to the $$/dinero exchange. She is a sweetie!
My room? very nice, ancient brick, a/c, shower, sink, & stool discreetly in room. nice tiling and beautiful decorated ceramic sink. Lovely grounds, hammock, beautiful rattan rockers and handmade furniture on the patios. About 6 blocks (straight shot) to Calzado Street, where all the action is; $1 (mas o menos) cab ride home after hours.
All in all, I would recommend this B&B to anyone who doesn't want to be right in the middle of the tourist craziness and would rather get a slice of the real Granada.
Thanks, Joel and Candy! (oh, and Candy helped me a lot with my Spanish!)

  • My stay at Casa Jardines was absolutely lovely! The house itself is beautiful and well-maintained, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and everyone there is extremely welcoming and helpful. It is located within a walkable distance to the town center, but away from the commotion and heavily-tourist areas. I would highly recommend this place to anyone passing through Granada!

  • Casa Jardines is a charming and peaceful get-away just a few blocks from the center of town and within a few minutes walk of many tourist amenities including historic sites, restaurants, boutiques, spas, and the lakefront. Joel was a welcoming and generous host and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in his colonial home. I look forward to catching up with him during my planned return visits to Granada.

  • I spent a delightful week at Joel's place. What a warm and welcoming home! Joel and Candy, the housekeeper, were extremely cordial and helpful.Joel offered excellent advice on all things Granada (watch where you walk or you can break an ankle!), and was very accommodating to all my requests. I loved the family feel of the place, including the resident dog and cat. Would I return? In a heartbeat!

  • Casa Jardines is a pleasant and stress free house with courtyard guest quarters that include A/C, fan, and private bath. Joel is an excellent host and the location is off the beaten tourist path. The neighborhood is safe, friendly, and a short walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the scenery of historic architecture that is Granada. Joel is extremely knowledgeable and available to answer any questions and provide assistance for transportation etc. A relaxed and comfortable environment with WIFI and a community use TV in the open air living room, Casa Jardines is a great place to stay.

  • Joel was probably one of the most helpful hosts we have ever had. We never felt like he was a host but more like a friend. He is extremely witty and has a very very warm heart. Any question about getting around or about Nicaragua he would find the answer to. His house is absolutely lovely with a big garden to lounge in and drink Candi's amazing coffee. Candi is also great! She is funny and sweet. Thanks to Joel and Candi, our experience in Granada was absolutely perfect. Thank you again for everything guys!
