The Townhouse is in the picturesque town of Holywood which is well known as a bustling little seaside town boasting plenty of shops, great restaurants and coffee shops, along with established art galleries and craft shops and many famous pubs.

Holywood is the setting for Patrick Taylor's wonderful book "An Irish Country Doctor."

Holywood (Ard Mhic Nasca) is located on the Belfast Lough shoreline: superb views of the Antrim Hills on the North shore and only 4 miles to Belfast City Centre.
There is the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum one train halt from house Illustrating the way of life and traditions of the people of Ulster.
You could walk there, and take in the beautiful beach and shore line of Belfast Lough,
There are two yacht clubs close to the house.

Holywood: The Towns rich ecclesiastical heritage is represented today by its most distinctive building; The Old Priory the site was formally a monastery founded by St. Laiseran in the early 7th Century. The graveyard has some interesting "residents" including members of the Praeger family, the Dunvilles (of the whiskey fame) and Sir Joseph Larmor world famous mathematician.

Norman Mote: When the Normans invaded Ulster in the 12th Century fortifications such as the Holywood Mote where widely seen across the land.

Praeger: Rosamund Praeger artist, sculptor and writer, younger sister of naturalist Robert Lloyd Praeger her work "Johnny the Jig" is just across the road from the maypole.

The Maypole: is the only one surviving in Ireland and is shown on maps as early as 1620.
The Maypole Bar (known locally as "Ned's) the owner says he serves the best draft Guinness in Ireland!

The Dirty Duck Ale House: is just a short walk from the house. Sit outside and watch the sun go down, there is live music and fantastic food. Fabulous views of Belfast Lough and the Antrim Hills on the North shore.

The Old Jetty is 50 meters from back door of house.(see last photo) There is a bird viewing hide a good 20mins walk, but well worth it.

The Train station is 2 minutes walk from the house, will take you to Belfast in 8 minutes, or to Bangor which (email hidden) with lots to do and a beautiful Marina.

  • Marina has alot of experience hosting people and it shows. She has lived in the Belfast area for a good amount of time and was able to give me the highlights of the city and her area of Holywood. Holywood, is a small suburb with a quaint downtown with boutiques, restuarant and galleries right on the water and a short train ride from Belfast. I had my living room with TV, bedroom and bathroom, her home is clean and filled with interested art pieces. I felt at home. Marina (email hidden)!

  • If you are looking for a really beautiful place to stay in Belfast this is it! The train into the city is just around the corner and you can't beat The Dirty Duck pub just up the road. They pour a lovely pint of Guinness. I especially loved being so close to the beach on Belfast Lough -- so beautiful. The room at Marina's is very comfortable and quiet and clean. And having my own bathroom was another perk. Next time I'm in Belfast I'll be sure to stay at Marina's again. Thanks!!

  • Ms Marina is really considerate. She gave me lots of help and provided detailed travel information during my stay. I was there in May, but the heater was still on. The bed was really comfortable and temperature in the room was comfortable enough. I had a private bathroom. I was allowed to use her living room and kitchen as I did at home. Thanks for that. Her house is quite close to the beach and I m really enjoy that.
