We have one very spacious room available to share in our home in Seaside, near Monterey, CA. Our goal is the golden rule: To treat others as we wish to be treated. We aim to provide a welcoming and positive experience for our guests while we encourage sustainable living and community involvement as only the sharing economy can do!
We donate 5% of our total Airbnb-generated income to local community and environment non-profit organizations, so we deeply appreciate your choice to stay with us for the greater contribution it makes to our community.
We are conservation minded: We compost, recycle diligently, and also spend a great deal of time in our garden. We try to keep our water use low (because California is almost always in a drought) and tend to be conservative with energy as well. We also value comfort and trust that you will feel at-ease during your visit.
... is the spare bedroom, adjacent to the master bedroom (where we stay). The spare bedroom is quite large, because we took out a wall to make one room out of two, so there is plenty of space to stretch out and do a yoga routine. We have a queen size air mattress that fits in there easily if separate sleep space is required. The guest bathroom is not attached, but it is reserved for your exclusive use. It features a walk-in shower (no tub) and is located a few feet from the bedroom door, off the hall.
... is a basic 60's ranch-style house that has been recently renovated inside and reflects our eclectic personalities. The walls are painted in pastel and bright colors, each room different. There are plants throughout the house and the unifying theme of our decor is something that may only exist in our imaginations. It is a clean but not sterile home where we feel quite comfortable, and hope you will as well. We hope you will feel free to use all the shared space of the house and garden during your stay.
Inside our home:
There is basic wireless internet. We do not have cable, but there is a television with a DVD player available in the living room to watch movies, if you like. We keep plenty of books and magazines, and have a few board and card games available to enjoy. There is a whole-house water filter/softener, for luxurious slippery hot-spring style showers. There is also a reverse-osmosis drinking water filter in the kitchen for fresh delicious water any time. (Including to make coffee and tea, to which you are welcome as a guest.)
We keep a decent stock of household items, so if you forget your shampoo or toothbrush (etc.), not to worry, we can help.
(and how it fits in the grand scheme of things):
... is relatively quiet, except for the morning calls of birds and the distant rush of waves on the shores of the Fort Ord Dunes beaches. There is little traffic on our street due to the many one-way and dead-end streets in the neighborhood. You will sometimes hear distant traffic on Hwy 1, and also occasional airplanes, but it is actually a very peaceful setting for being in the middle of town. While there are buses that come nearby our house which ultimately run all over Monterey County, it is not the most accessible area by public transit, so this is a better area for travelers with a vehicle. That said, there are always options. If you are arriving at the local airport, it is not far and we might be able to arrange to meet you there, so please do ask. The Monterey bicycle trail is downhill just a couple miles. This is a residential neighborhood and there are few tourist amenities in the immediate (walkable) area.
We are in Seaside, which is the town directly North of Monterey - really the two are continuous. Downtown Seaside does have a few tasty restaurants that we will be happy to recommend, as well as a fantastic yoga studio, but otherwise many of the destinations in our area are a short drive away from our doorstep.
We have two guest passes available for the Monterey Bay Aquarium that we would be happy to share with you as our guests.
We are 2.3 miles from the Monterey Fairgrounds where wonderful events sometimes happen. It is about 4 miles to downtown Monterey, takes maybe 10 minutes to get through town over there and to Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf, etc. It is about 8 miles to downtown Carmel... which takes maybe 20 minutes. South of Carmel, the highway runs along the open coastline and a little through the forests and is lovely all the way to Big Sur, which is actually a poorly defined vast area, but the town of Big Sur is probably an hour down that way. We are about 7 miles from the entrance to Laguna Seca (15 minutes), or about 4 minutes to drive to the Embassy Suites where the regular shuttle bus originates for Laguna Seca. Salinas (and the John Steinbeck Center) is about a 25-minute drive from our doorstep. On the other side, Santa Cruz is North about 45 minutes to an hour (depending on where you want to go near there). Basically, it doesn't take terribly long to drive anywhere around here and get to exceptional nature or great events.
What you need to know:
This is our full-time home and we will probably be home during your visit. Although it is a shared house, your room is your private sanctuary and we are equally happy to respect your preference for 'personal time' as well as to share space and socialize in the common areas of the house and garden. The kitchen is available for you to use if you would like to prepare your own meals. On weekends, we'll be glad to have you join us for a homemade breakfast if it fits in the schedule. Let us know!
There are three adult cats in our home, making this a poor location for those with allergies or aversions. Also, we cannot accept pets traveling with their folks. (Sorry!)
We love to share our home and garden with our friends, and hope that you will enjoy them as well!
Entire home, including your private room, bath of the hall, living room, kitchen, laundry and garden!
As much as possible, though we are rather busy ourselves. Whenever home, we love to have a good visit with our guests if they are open to the interaction :)
Our specific block is very quiet with little traffic and friendly neighbors who will wave and greet you as you come and go. It is a sleepy spot without much to explore in the near vicinity, but a short drive to ll that Monterey and the area has to offer. A perfect place to relax and have a good rest!
Easiest to have a car, but if you are a usual cyclist, you can get around the Peninsula relatively easily.
Laura and Yatsu were great host in a beautiful spotless house. Beautiful garden, and amazing home "made" honey. Thank you for the aquarium tickets, we enjoyed a lot. Hope next time will get to spend more time.
Laura & Yasu,
We loved staying at your place with your adorable kitties. Hiking at Big Sur was amazing and Yen & I are definitely planning to go back and we would love to stay at your place again when we do!!!! Breakfast was amazing & thank you for such wonderful hospitality! :)
Laura and Yasu were incredible hosts! This was my first Airbnb experience and what a pleasure it was. Everything about the stay was warm and welcoming. Beautiful people, home, vibe, and community. Thanks for a great experience!
Thank you very much for the recommendation of acqury, and point lobos. Had a very nice talk to you. Have tried you self raised honey, quite natural and sweet, really nice. The room is clean and really cozy, I love everything there: the cotton quilt, old style wood table and cabinet, candles, books••••••especially the cats and back yard garden. The only sorry was I spend only one night.
We had a great time with Laura and Yasu. Just the right balance of helpful and leaving us to it. Great breakfast too!
We had a wonderful time at Laura and Yasu's place !
Everything was perfect : charming people, location, room, comfortable double bed + additional bed, wonderful garden and house...
Laura and Yasu were so welcoming, and it is impossible not to feel at home when you are at their place ! They offered us very good breakfasts, we spent a lot of time just chatting together, and they even invited us to a party with their friends ! They helped us a lot to plan the following days of our trip, and we enjoyed a lot to do what they adviced. They kindly gave us the pass for the Monterey aquarium as well, and it was a good experience !
It is hard to sum up how nice and welcoming people they are, just book and go at their place to make your own idea !
Hosts were super friendly, even offering me fresh honey and tea from their hive! They made my stay in Seaside extra special. This is a really special couple with a totally cute and fun and artistic house. Seaside is very quiet and there isn't anything really to walk to, but with a car you're set. Highly recommended!
We loved our time at Laura and Yasu's home! There was plenty of parking; the room was spacious, clean and bright; the (private!) bathroom was updated and cozy - we were happy to stay here on our short getaway. Laura and Yasu were great hosts in that they communicated, were friendly, and were happy to show us around and then left us to explore on our own, with the gracious use of their Aquarium passes too. We happily recommend Laura and Yasu's Seaside room!
Thanks Laura & Yasu. What a lovely week we had with you. Thanks for the aquarium passes they were fantastic...actually spent the whole day there. The house was very comfortable, bed was great and breakfast was also great Lots & lots of conversations about numerous topics. House was clean and very quiet. We would certainly stay again. Regards Brian & Alison
My fiancé and I stayed with Laura and Yasu for Memorial Day Weekend. What a pleasurable experience! We arrived so much later in the evening than planned, but Laura was understanding and flexible. They were extremely knowledgable about sustainably, wildlife and the outdoors; they even gave us passes to the Monterey Bay aquarium. This couple was friendly and hospitable, the exact people you want to stay with on AirBnb!
