The Space

Welcome to Casa 'Punta Tranquilo', ideally located on Playa Cocles, just one kilometer away from Puerto Viejo, providing privacy and seclusion within an easy 3 min walk to the beach, bar and restaurants.

The house is the last one on a dead end road and is located in a quiet neighborhood. Set in an attractive tropical garden surrounded by jungle, it is just 200 meters from Cocles beach. It is truly one of the best location in the area, very close to town, yet just minutes from the most beautiful beaches of the South caribbean.

It features 2 charming bedrooms, one bathroom, a laundry room, and a big living area with kitchen, living room and a big deck. The main attraction is the 4 electrical shutters that allow the house to be fully opened to the outside and enjoy the deck and the beautiful jungle surroundings. Easily manageable with remote controls, the house will be safely shut in only a few seconds whenever you want to leave.

The house is very well equipped and offers :
- real adsl Internet and wifi (fairly rare in the area),
- fully equipped kitchen,
- US type big load washer and dryer,
- 2 separate bedrooms, one with a king size bed, one with a double,
- quality mosquito nets on both beds,
- safe,
- outside grill,
- fitness bench,
- 2 bicycles to get around both with locks,
- linens and towels,
- real hot water shower (rare in the Caribbean!),
- an outside deck with portable mats to enjoy the beautiful starry nights (the Tropics offer some of the best skies you will ever see!) and wildlife!

Toucans, hummingbirds, sloths and monkeys often visit the property.

Attention has been brought to details and decoration with plenty of art crafts from all over the world.

This is a very practical and comfortable home to spend your vacation, as a couple or in family.

300 meters away, you will find a well known yoga studio and the best coffee shop in the area were you can enjoy local organic fair-trade chocolate. Tasty Waves bar and cantina next door to the coffee shop will be the perfect place to (email hidden) or cocktail on you way back from the beach or to get a full meal.

Restaurants and supermarkets can be found nearby. The animal rescue center is just a few minutes by bike.

Guests can also enjoy activities such as surfing, snorkeling, hiking, river rafting, horseback riding, zip lining, jungle tours and many more!

  • This place was really wonderful! the open air home was a very cool experience. Sleeping at night with the walls open ( because it was too hot otherwise) sleeping under the mosquito net, being awaken early morning by various birds and howler monkeys was a true experience I will never forget. The location was great: close to everything including a great little yoga studio at the end of the street called "OM". It also had the most lovely and delicious coffee shop with a chocolate grower right up the street from the house.
Emily was a lovely host and gave us great tips on places around town.
The weather was very wet and damp: the dryer became our best friend to dry towels after we used them as they did not dry in the humid air: great to have this included in the house.

The only downside to this lovely home were the beds: they were very very hard and the pillows were vert sparse. With better beds the place would be a 5/5.
Otherwise we loved our stay in this charming home.

Note: to get to the home: you need to drive up a dirt road a 4X4 is a must.

  • My group had a wonderful time staying at the home, neatly tucked away in Puerto Viejo. The house was gorgeous and all the amenities were provided as listed. Amelie was very sweet to come by and meet us in person. She is understanding and can offer all sorts of great advice. We took her up on most of it and have no regrets whatsoever. Would definitely consider returning. Gracias, PURA VIDA!!!

  • The listing is just as described, and Amelie was extremely helpful in getting us all checked in. We did not bring a phone, and she was very flexible and accommodating of our weird schedule. We actually never met face to face, but she was easy to get in touch with via airbnb, and everyone we talked to in town seemed to know her and her business. The place itself is great, and the pictures dont do it justice.

Tip: The Caribbean side of Costa Rica is very hot and humid. The place does not have AC, as seems typical of the area, but does open completely, and we found the fans in the house to be very helpful. We overpacked, as we really were in our swimsuits the entire time we were there. The yoga studio/coffee shop on the corner of the main road near the house was great, and had good wifi, and excellent chocolate and coffee.

  • We had an amazing stay in this house. Located just out of town it is very private and secluded. We spends lots of time relaxing in the jungle on the covered patio. Ameli was very helpful. This is a great spot in Puerto Viejo!

  • A very special house, only by pressing a tiny button on a remote control it fully opens its front side to the tropical garden surrounding it. Life in the rainforest. Huge butterflies and hummingbirds fly past your hammock. The sound of frogs, birds and howling monkeys from trees close by.
Amelie has been a pleasure and very reliable to communicate with. Highly recommend.

  • We stayed for 5 days with two kids, and we had an amazing time at the house. We had everything we needed, including bikes which we used a lot to go to the beach, the town and the jaguar rescue center. The porch and the garden was really nice, and the kids loved the hammock. Amelie was very sweet and picked us up in town on the first day, she was really easy to communicate with! All in all it was amazing! We would definitely go back!

  • A nice apartment, in nice quiet location.
After some initial problems, we spent a happy Christmas there (and on the beach).
    Would stay again

  • Amelie and Thomas are great, you can't ask for better hosts. We felt like friends the fist minute we met them :) The house is cool, nice sense of design, and that's what sold us on the first place . Location is good too, we recommend this house :)

Originally from France I have been living in Costa Rica since 2010. I came across this area while traveling and I ended up staying here... I love this place so much for its laid back atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. I very much enjoy sharing tips and recommendations about things to do and places to visit as well as my favorites restaurants! I am also the owner of Caribe Horse riding club, a well known horse stable in the area.
