Description

The Space

The Woodstock Cottage was built by a Woodstock artist 75 years ago, and has been thoughtfully renovated by a local architect.

This is the perfect retreat setting for a writer, musician, artist, or other creative type who is looking for privacy, yet not total seclusion.

Sleeps 1 to 2 people, or a couple or single parent with a child. Cottage has sleeping loft and a brand new (Dec 2014), extremely comfortable sofa-bed.

Year round rates:
$150/night .. $700/week .. $2000/month

Please note there is a 2 night minimum, unless it is very short notice.
Holiday weekends have a 3 night minimum.

Guest Access

In the summer, there is a tiny garden off the terrace with herbs you are welcome to cook with. We grow whatever the deer don't eat, so you will find green onions, sage, and sometimes rosemary. Sometimes - between deer browsings - there will be a plethora of pink wild roses and black eyed Susans. But usually, there are just the aromatic herbs.

Interaction with Guests

While we share a driveway with our guests, and our home is up the hill, we offer our guests total privacy. If I am able to meet and greet on arrival, I do, otherwise guests let themselves in and make themselves at home. If I am not able to meet on arrival, we likely will not see each other. This happens all the time, even if a guest is there for over a week! If you should ever need us, we are available by phone, text, or email.

The Neighborhood

We love walking to town along the blue stone sidewalk the Woodstock Volunteers built a few years ago. We like checking out the shops - it seems new ones are popping up all the time (Pacama Handmade is new and great for understated, modern, hand-thrown pottery. Shop Little House has adorable vintage items. And don't miss our independent Golden Notebook for new books.) In the warmer months we get in line at Aba's Falafel at the Farmer's Market, or we eat outside on one of Woodstock's many patios (the Garden Cafe has a great outdoor dining space). In the coldest months, we walk through the snow and treat ourselves to breakfast at Oriole 9.

Getting Around

Guests travel to Woodstock from NYC via car or via Trailways bus and are dropped off in the center of town. It is a 12 minute walk to the Cottage. Or call Woodstock Taxi.

Other Things to Note

This is a great cottage. There is something about it being so small that makes it very cozy. People always seem very happy, when we check in via email. And our own friends love to stay when it is available. I would just say - in the winter, bring slippers as the floors can be chilly. I have never visited a house in Woodstock without chilly floors and this historic cottage is no different (although we do dress them with thick rugs.)
